From the bride… I have known my husband for more than 30 years — we grew up together and were friends long before we became lovers. Dino certainly brings out the best in me. And without a doubt, one of my biggest revelations since our union, has been the realization of just how simple and effortlessly beautiful life can be. It’s this very simplicity and effortless beauty that became the inspiration of our wedding day. I must admit that Dino and I are spoiled as a Vancouverites; we happen to live in the most beautiful city in the world, making the realization of our vision for our wedding day actually quite easy! Vancouver, for those of you that haven’t seen it first-hand, is absolutely stunning! Lush green trees, voluptuous mountains and refreshing coastlines make for a breathtaking backdrop almost anywhere in the city! We knew that this amazing beauty had to be the backdrop for our wedding day. When the time came to decide upon a venue, we knew, undoubtedly, that the Brock House Restaurant would be the place to host our family and friends! The restaurant sits right on Jericho Beach and boasts one of our favorite views in the city! The tented lawn seemed like the perfect place to wine and dine our loved ones.

Deciding on a date came next. As a teacher, I knew that logistically our wedding had to take place in the summer. This way I would be free to run around hastily in the days leading up to our big day. So we decided upon Sunday, July 24. It wasn’t until later that Dino and I realized just how symbolic our chosen date (24/7) was. Not only did we choose 24/7 as the day to authenticate our love for one another, we also took a vow that we would love, respect and honor one another 24/7. The 24/7 theme, naturally, was tied into our invitations, our stationery and our décor. The “teacher” in me continued to come out, more and more, as our wedding day approached and, consequently, chalkboards and apples became a décor staple. Our wedding rings were tied to a stack of vintage childrens books in lieu of a pillow and table letters instead of table numbers were born.

As for our color palette … honestly, is there a happier color than yellow?  Yellow roses, yellow orchids, yellow lanterns, yellow sand pails and even yellow flip-flops embellished our venue. Copious amounts of burlap, twine, curly willow and wood acted as accents to echo our theme of natural, effortless beauty. The only detail we were unable to confirm was the weather. In a city like Vancouver, it’s a gamble — on almost any day of the year — to plan an outdoor event, as rain ‘round here is as certain as the beauty.’ Articulating the way I felt on the morning of our wedding is a challenge on many levels.  At the first sight of the clear, blue sky and the gorgeous yellow sun, I felt euphoric and affirmed that not only had I chosen such an amazing person to spend the rest of my life with, but that our family and friends would certainly enjoy the day as much as us!
