From the Bride… Mitch and I have known each other since school, and after seeing each other on several occasions, we decided it would be great to have a catch up. In 2007, after a few months of spending time together and watching his rugby league games, a kiss happened, and the rest is history… The proposal happened in March 2010, with a romantic brunch planned with gorgeous views of Canberra from a walking track at Black Mountain Tower. My favourite foods were laid out on a table, even including a bottle of Moet (quite unusual), and after a few hours of bliss, Mitch proposed with some gorgeous words and left me surprised and speechless. The rest of the day was a blur of staring at my gorgeous art deco diamond and sapphire ring.

A few months into the engagement, we decided to start down the road of planning our fabulous day. Both loving a great party, we decided to make our wedding motto “a bit of a tradition with a fabulous party.” Our ceremony was booked at St Josephs Church in O’Connor, Canberra, which featured gorgeous stained glass windows and rich red carpet, a beautiful setting for our special day. As an event planner, I spent time looking into the finer details of the day and making sure that it reflected both of our personalities. We decided to have art deco with splashes of sapphire blue and silver to reflect my ring. Mitch and I both love to be creative, so with that we decided to have some DIY projects, starting with the invitations, menus, place settings, name tags which were made to go around the chairs, and we also took on the task of setting up the venue to our exact taste the night before the wedding. Our photos were extremely important to us, and we had to have Kelly Tunney for our special day. We knew that we would be in love with the photos that Kelly would produce thanks to her creativity, individuality and calming nature.

With an Australian and Croatian theme, the reception was held at the Australian Croatian Club in O’Connor, Canberra, which set the feel for the day of being intimate, happy and fun, and overall, a day filled with family and our closest friends. Thanks to some family and bridal party members, tables were decorated with art deco runners, gorgeous Australian flower centrepieces with crystal tea light candles that reflected off the fairy light canopy in the centre of the room – guests loved the feel of our personal touches on the day. Food was extremely important to us so we asked our dear friend and amazing chef, Andrew Hollands (of 2617 Group Catering – The Abbey & Functions of Federation) to cater our wedding with a special menu, along with cupcakes made by our gorgeous friend Louise Cairns. Along with amazing food, a good amount of flowing alcohol, a photo booth and a great band, the party lasted until the early hours of the morning. Despite the weather playing with our emotions a few days before and on the day, we loved the time that was spent taking photos. Kelly managed to capture our feelings and emotions about each-other and went along with our crazy interesting ways of just enjoying ourselves and the day. The experience was exactly what we wanted — a bit of a tradition and a big fabulous party.
