From the bride… Billy and I were high school sweethearts, so when he proposed in Paris on my 26th birthday, I eagerly said “yes” and couldn’t wait to get to work on planning our wedding.  Having both grown up in Northern Virginia in families of boaters, we knew that we wanted to find a venue on the Potomac River.  Upon visiting Trump National Golf Club, we looked no further.  The Club was in the process of completing an infinity pool waterfall overlooking the river, and we could perfectly picture our ceremony taking place right at the top of it.

We wanted the wedding to have a clean and fresh yet elegant feel to it, so we chose a color palette of blues, crisp white and gold tones, which was also a nod to the nautical inspiration for the venue choice.  Given that we have known each other for so long, our family and friends are very intertwined, so we wanted the day to be fun and personal for our guests.  One of our favorite personal touches was our table naming scheme; the table markers were the names of restaurants where we have celebrated meaningful life experiences, including high school and college graduations, milestone birthdays and anniversaries, and our favorite late night pizza.  Another personal touch was that the chocolate covered strawberries served with dessert were wearing blue and white striped bowties that matched Billy’s custom bowtie; this was a fun DIY project that two of my bridesmaids helped me complete the week before the wedding.  Additionally, throughout the wedding we had little homages to Paris, the site of our engagement, such as custom postage printed with “Je t’aime”, and DIY muslin favor bags stamped with “Merci.”  Finally, as our guestbook, we designed a photo album using our engagement photos; this was particularly meaningful, as one of the groomsmen was our engagement photographer.

Our wedding day was utterly amazing, and throughout the day we sporadically stopped to soak it in and enjoy the moment.  Most importantly, it was the joy of seeing all of our family and friends together in one place that made the day perfect for us.  Neither of us could stop smiling all day, and the sparkler sendoff was the perfect end to a truly magical day!
