Santa Barbara Ballroom Wedding by Sweet Emilia Jane

In keeping with our garden-inspired theme today, we wanted to show how details of the garden variety can be interpreted with a classic ballroom wedding. So many Bride and Grooms-to-be have not the luxury of amazing weather or a readily available outdoor venue but that doesn’t mean you can’t pull inspiration from a pretty, open-air oasis. This Santa Barbara wedding did just that. The flowers by the amazing Holly Flora look straight out of the backyard (albeit an incredibly gorgeous one), the details look effortless and so beautifully executed by our very own Sweet Emilia Jane (we’re proud as can be coworkers) and the photography by Bethany Belle has us letting out big ol’ collective sighs around the SMP office. This is a gorgeous interpretation of garden and one that Brides from any corner of this green Earth can pull ideas from. Get your fill of all the prettiness in the gallery.

From Sweet Emilia JaneBrooke and Michael are two of the sweetest, most good-humored, good-natured people I have ever met.  They compliment each other so well and the love between them is so incredible.  It was a joy to be a part of their wedding planning process and a part of their wedding day which was fabulous besides a few hiccups.  When it comes to style, however, they couldn’t be more different so finding a design that was a happy combination of both their unique tastes and preferences was not an easy task.  She is elegant, graceful and loves classic literature.  He is funny, boisterous and loves Star Wars.  They both knew they wanted something classic but that incorporated both their personalities.  As I got to know them better I discovered that both loved to travel and even blogged about their journeys.  Our design was influenced by both their love for literature and travel with a classic, vintage flair.

The entire event was supposed to occur outdoors with an intimate garden ceremony a private club followed by a rooftop reception overlooking Santa Barbara at The Canary Hotel.  Mother Nature had other plans for us, however, and, though we held off as long as we could, the rain brought us indoors.  The day of the wedding we moved furniture out of the lovely, historic ceremony venue to create space for 100 guests.  Holly Flora brought the garden inside with beautiful, colorful plants that we set along the aisle with moss and birch slices.

Umbrella in hand, we made our way over to the hotel where we had quickly adjusted our plans to recreate our rooftop reception in the ballroom.  The hotel is so gorgeous and our friends at LPBS did such an amazing job of lighting the space on such short notice that you would never known we had other plans for the venue.  We brought in luggage, a large, vintage map and personal books and furniture to create a warm, intimate atmosphere.  Holly Flora’s table arrangements were simply stunning.  The sun even came out for all the guests to enjoy the rooftop during sunset.
