It is always oh so fun to see someone in the wedding biz tie the knot. Seeing an industry pro step into the shoes of the bride or the groom typically guarantees a wedding I’ll be smitten over. So how did I feel when I first laid eyes on Katie Jayne’s wedding of Jayne Weddings and Events? Totally smitten. There might have been a squeal involved in my reaction. It’s a detail-filled love fest worthy of a squeal, and thanks to Joey Kennedy Photography, the gallery is filled with goodness which will definitely make you a bit more smitten with your Monday morning!

From the Bride…The days leading up to our wedding were crazy, to say the least. Jordan got a new job in Chicago 2 months before our big day, so while we should have been deciding our table arrangements and finalizing items, we were packing up our life in California and driving cross country, but in the end, I wouldn’t have wanted to do this any other way. Our wedding really reflected us as a couple. Nature/outdoors is very important to us, as is a crisp clean design. We chose a venue that not only had space for an outdoor ceremony, but also could hold an outdoor cocktail hour, and a late night bar. The space was also mostly white, leaving an amazing canvas to work with.
As the owner of Jayne Weddings, I felt very overwhelmed with the decor, thinking, “people know what I do and will be judging everything”, as soon as I let go of that and just did what we wanted, everything fell into place. We wanted the decor to be simple, but unique. My brother, who refurnishes vintage furniture, and I came up with the idea of using wood everywhere. Wood cake stand, wood slabs on the table, wood arch. It was all in honor of our father who passed away about 19 years ago, he owned a wood flooring company, and taught us to appreciate how beautiful wood in its natural state can be. I also placed a locket around my bouquet with his picture in it, it made it feel like he was closer to me on that day, and now I wear it almost everyday. Besides the use of wood, being green is very important to both Jordan and I and seems to pop up in all my designs.
From the moment we got engaged I started collecting glass bottles, any glass bottle. We actually changed the type of foods we purchased based on the glass container it came in! At the time I had no idea what I would use them for but knew it would be great. About 3 months before the big day it hit me, use them for the flowers. I grouped them on my dining room table and did not like what I saw. Although I love hodge podge looking stuff, this didn’t fit our clean and simple wedding. So I scraped all the labels off and spray painted them white. Perfection. We told our florist that we wanted it to look like we had an awesome garden and just picked the flowers ourselves and plopped them in the bottles. We added in the succulents on the tables and all boutonnieres for our touch of Cali. For the place cards I created little flags featuring the guest’s name and meal selection. We purchased brightly colored macaroons and inserted the flags into the cookie, it turned out very cute sitting on top of the seersucker napkin. The napkins helped dictate a lot. I used them as a guide to the groomsmen and ring bearer’s pants. Then I gave all the men a color palette and told them to buy whatever for their ties/hats/vests. We also had 3 pregnant bridesmaids, so I figured I would let them pick whatever they wanted, which worked out great, I love the way all the ladies outfits reflected their personal style.
Wow, I could go on and on, other things I loved: The ring bearer and flower girl came in making tons of music on their bells and tambourine. The groom’s brother made us an awesome tree for our guest book. I made the cake topper as an ode to our engagement photos (where we used many many hearts). We had a simple ceremonial cake to cut and then an ice cream truck too! Late night popcorn, my favorite food, escort cards created a gradient when arranged, thrifted and modern table numbers, moss, awesome DJ, pretty sparkler send off to an ice cream truck get away, great food, amazing company. Best day of my life, ever. Lets do it again!
