Sonoma is just one of those perfect little places in the world. Every wedding that comes out of this utopia shines with such natural, elegant beauty. This wedding by Borrowed Blue Old New is by no means an exception. Tucked away in the most sublime looking garden, reminiscent of an old English love story, it is infused with a classic meets modern meets gorgeous vibe, some of the prettiest details we ever did see and a beautiful couple whose own love story started years ago as high school sweethearts. From the bride…On the wedding day marked 11 years and four months of Jorge and I being together. We had been each other’s dates for our respective high school proms, where it all began. We wanted our wedding day to feel relaxed and without structure. Finding a wedding venue in Wine Country that embodied those wants at a sensible price was quite difficult. I was unsuccessful in finding venues on my own, so I decided to use a wedding venue consultant. During our weekend search our consultant asked me to describe the look of our wedding venue with one word and my response was “Anthropologie.” This made it difficult for the consultant to understand since he had never walked into an Anthropologie before. After looking at about six locations, we found it. I looked at the consultant and said “this is Anthropologie.” My fiancee looked at me and asked “are you crying?” I was, tears were streaming down my face beneath my sunglasses. The property allowed us to use different sections of the property for different events thru out the day, like welcome drinks on the lawn, the ceremony in the garden gazebo, cocktail hour at the horse corral, dancing in the garden pavillion and cognac and cigars on the front porch of the historic house.
After finding the venue, what we found most helpful in planning our wedding was agreeing on the top three most important aspects in regards to hosting a great party. First was music, followed by booze
and then food. All vendors involved exceeded our expectations. You would think the people who work in this industry get jaded by all the craziness and do-overs. We were fortunate to come across vendors that were caring people and passionate about what they do. Our band, Pop Fiction, were committed to making everyone dance all night. Their performance was out of this world. We loved the fact that our band had a bongo player, which set them apart from other bands and was an essential touch for Jorge and I as Cuban-Americans. Our ceremony-cocktail-dinner guitarist, Chris Wooley, was a dream come true. I searched near and far for a solo guitarist that knew how to play “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” by The Police, which is something I envisioned played during the ceremony. Chris is a true artist and very talented – he was willing to learn new songs for us and created an ambience that suited our style.
For the remaining details of the wedding we wanted it to be collaborative, creative and inexpensive. One of my bridesmaid created and made our invitations out of brown recycled paper. Two of my
closest friends and I worked on printing addresses on the invitation envelopes (what a difficult task – anyone interested in creating a company that does this inexpensively?) My mom collected vintage silver
platters for our centerpieces. We used both my grandmothers vintage tablecloths as covers for the hay-bail seating in the horse corral. My mother-in-law hand stamped the menus, programs and table cards I had created and printed. My cousin created our table numbers design – she placed pictures of Jorge and I in pexiglass frames. Each table number represented a year that Jorge and I had been together. For example, our friends from college sat in table number years 2001 thru 2003, which represented the years we were in college. The day before the wedding I had my closest friends and family help set-up and make snacks for the welcome bags. It meant the world to us that our friends and family were so involved with the details of our wedding.
