Happy Friday, lovelies! We’ve got the prettiest purple and gray fete for you to feast your eyes on this morning with so many DIYs to inspire you, you’re head might just start spinning…in a good way! I’m loving so many of the personal touches but I must say my faves have got to be the super cute mason jars filled with signature cocktails and complete with chalkboard drink labels for guests to scribble their names on and the make-your-own trail mix table. LOVE it! Oh and their response cards must have been super fun for guests to fill out (think wedding Mad Libs) and then made for a sweet display strung together with burlap and hung throughout the reception area. Oh and the gorgeous flowers by Blüm, Design in Flowers have been dancing pretty little circles in my head all morning long. From the Bride…Classic, simple, natural and local were the words we thought of when envisioning our wedding. We both grew up in Joseph and wanted to share the beauty and spirit of this small town in eastern Oregon. We knew the mountains would provide a spectacular backdrop so we chose an outdoor location at the Wallowa River Camp where our two hundred and thirty guests could assemble along the Wallowa River for our ceremony and reception. The entire community pitched in with loaning picnic tables, creating seasonal fruit desserts, pit barbecuing a pig, cooking cedar plank salmon, building willow archways, gathering and arranging flowers from local gardens and playing music for the wedding. Both my fiancé and I and our guests could feel the love and support of the town of Joseph at our wedding.
For all of our DIY projects we created the mountain motifs and J+E brand as well as stuck with our color palate of purple, white and rustic brown. Invitations included a schedule of local events from skeet shooting, to Pilates and wildflower hikes. A welcome bag greeted out-of-town guests with treats from our family and local Joseph businesses including TG beer, Arrowhead Chocolate, elk sausages, our favorite cookies and my sister’s famous granola.
Family traditions were important in the ceremony. Our officiant, a local judge, had married my mom and step father, I carried my great-grandmothers hankie and my sister and I both wore our grandmother’s tennis bracelets. Our guests joined together in the singing of “In My Life” by the Beatles as Jay and I walked down the aisle together during the recessional. A cocktail hour started off the evening with appetizers prepared by my aunts and a signature drink of Oregon Berry Spitzers with handpicked blueberries. Guests were given a mason jar, which we had collected over the past year, and wrote their names on chalkboard labels.
Friends and family from afar joined us on the dance floor and were not the least bit fazed by the evening thunderstorms. We danced the night away to the classic rock band that played 30 years earlier at my in-laws wedding and drove off in aqua getaway car. It was a perfect ending to our evening.
