From the Bride…Our love of travel and the outdoors inspired us to visit many places during the last few years, but no trip was more special than the one we took to Banff, Canada seven months after we started dating.  We loved the breathtaking beauty of the mountains and lakes, the abundant wildlife, and the friendly people.  Our love for each other had been unspoken until this trip. How could you not be inspired to share your feelings with someone after seeing so much beauty and nature right before your eyes? After we became engaged on our two-year anniversary, we quickly decided that Banff would be the perfect place for our closest friends and family to join us for our destination wedding. We chose an upscale lodge for our reception venue, which was less than a mile from the town center but far enough away to feel quiet and romantic.  The venue also gave our guests the opportunity to stay in the same place over the long weekend, and the natural wood features, fireplaces, trees and mountain scenery provided a unique atmosphere.

We felt our venue and décor should be simple, so as not to take away from the location’s natural beauty.  We chose a bright magenta pink to contrast the grey mountains, and combined it with a romantic, pale pink and greens and browns to match the natural decor.  We used a simple moose theme to highlight both the location and our love of moose, which started years earlier when I surprised Darren with a stuffed moose when he traveled across the country to visit me on a work trip.  Mountain weather changes rapidly, and that was no more clear than on the day of our wedding.

In our short, outside ceremony held on a mountain meadow across from our reception venue we experienced freezing rain, rain, and then absolutely beautiful sunshine, as the clouds parted near the end of our personal vows to each other.  It was an incredibly emotional ceremony, full of tears and laughter. Adding to the memorable weather, many of our guests found out later that two cougars (the four-legged kind!) were hanging out in the woods aside the meadow.  Our lovely, calm, day-of coordinator assured us that the local park rangers were closely watching the situation and that our outside ceremony could continue as planned!  Neither the weather or cougars (!) could take away from the love and emotion that we experienced on our wedding day.  It meant so much to us that our 45 closest friends and family were not only able to see why Banff is such a special place for us, but that they were able to witness our feelings for each other. Words can’t fully describe how happy and emotional our wedding was for us, and what we felt that day will remain with us for the rest of our lives.
