How incredibly romantic would it be to get married in the church where you met? Maybe I’ve watched one too many romantic comedies in my day (this is a fact), but the thought of that just gives me chills. And to get married so stylishly – those pretty blue hues on the bridesmaids and the wispy calligraphy is enough to make my heart sing a pretty tune. From the Bride…Barry and I were married on a beautiful Friday afternoon in the church where we met, in the city we fell in love in – Mississauga, Ontario. Our wedding united our hearts and brought together our families and our cultures (Filipino and Indian). We’ve been so blessed by the love of each other and by the generosity and kindness of our family and friends who have supported us throughout our lives. Words cannot describe the joy we felt and the love that surrounded us.
The details of our wedding were the icing on a very delightful cake. “Simple, romantic, slightly whimsical” were the key words that popped once we realized the things we liked and spoke to us. I gravitated towards shades of blue for the bridesmaid dresses in soft flowy fabrics, and opted for pink, peach, and white roses, spray roses, dahlias, and lisianthus. We wanted an elegant yet relaxed feel – our wonderful florist Aimee (Madame Bloom) kept the arrangements loose and unstructured, using the mix of glassware that I have purchased from Goodwill. A family friend baked our wedding cake. I left most of our paper goods needs to the talented Palettera and DIY’d a few things, such as the seating charts and the thank you tags for our fruit and rum cake favors (a tradition in Goa). I prettied my penmanship and wrote the guest names on the place cards. I modified my veil to have it look the way I wanted. My sister did my make-up. I wore a pretty headband that I purchased online from Tigerlilly and kept my hair down and natural.
Barry and I will cherish so many memories from our wedding – walking down the aisle with my mom and dad; the look on Barry’s face when he first saw me in my wedding dress; exchanging our vows as we held hands and gazed into each others’ soul; grinning from ear to ear as they announced us as the new “Mr. and Mrs.”; our friend gifting us with a contemporary Indian dance; Elena, my sister singing “From This Moment” for us; a funny and moving maid-of-honor and best man speech from my sister Leanne and Barry’s brother Garry; dancing to “Stand By Me” with my dad who choreographed our dance; my breakdance crew Ground Illusionz performed and opened the dance floor for us, along with my bridesmaids and some friends; everyone singing to the last song of the night “Have I Told You Lately” by Rod Stewart, enveloping Barry and I in a giant group hug.
