I still have to wrap my head around the fact that summer here means it’s actually winter down under. Well, we have a nice way to beat the summer heat stateside with this lovely winter wedding by Follan Photography. From the Bride… After an almost-nine year long relationship and an eighteen-month long engagement, our dream for the wedding was to create an event that would be timeless. If I had to summarise our wedding in a sentence, I’d call it a classically simple traditional wedding. Our wedding was held in June, which is winter here in the Southern Hemisphere. To fit with our wedding style and season I chose shades of grey, green and ivory to carry throughout our day, with just a pop of antique pink to brighten the bouquets and centrepieces. Our bridesmaids wore floor length gowns of charcoal grey, accessorised with pearl jewelery and delicate sprigs of baby’s breath in their hair.
Although we were rained out during our picture time and didn’t get as many portraits as I would’ve hoped for, what we DID end up with from that shoot were some of my favourite pictures from the entire day. It helped that we had a fantastic bridal party, who didn’t complain once about the cold temperatures or the raindrops landing on their satin gowns and fitted suits.
My lovely husband and I have spent a good deal of our relationship travelling. We moved to London together several years ago for work and for play, and Jason proposed in Prague. I moulded the majority of our wedding details from abroad, while we were finishing up our stay in the United Kingdom. Planning a semi-destination wedding from thousands of miles away meant that I needed vendors that were easy going, reliable, and good communicators – I’m so lucky to have worked with such wonderful people. We moved back home to Sydney just a few months before the wedding, and spent the last weeks assembling some DIY projects that gave the day our own unique stamp. Favourites included our ribbon wands for the church send-off, programs for the church ceremony, table menus and charity favour place cards for our guests. Our transportation for the day was my father’s Mustang convertible, a nod to his love of classic cards.
We kept our wedding fairly intimate, and were surrounded by 80 of our nearest and dearest. They celebrated with us through the rain, waved their ribbon wands with glee, danced up a storm on the floor, and braved the elements once again to send us off into the evening as husband and wife under a column of sparklers. It was the perfect ending to a not-so-perfect wedding day!
