From the Bride… Chris and I met when we were seniors in high school. We went to different schools, but were introduced by my best friend. We started out as friends, but began dating the summer after high school and even though we were heading off to different colleges, we knew that we wanted to stay together. When Chris started making long trips up to Burlington, Vermont in the dead of winter to visit me at school I knew that this was going to last. After college we moved to Boston together to be closer to our new jobs. Chris is a huge sports fan and we love to go to Red Sox and Celtics games. We even named our cat Wally after the Red Sox mascot. We both grew up in New England and love being outdoors in all seasons, but especially summer, when we can bike and canoe and go for long walks.

We knew right away that we wanted a small destination wedding that would double as a nice weekend getaway for our friends and family. It was also important to us to choose a location that would be accessible for our guests. We looked at a couple places but nothing really stood out to us. A couple months after we got engaged we took an impromptu weekend trip to Nantucket. Chris and I had so much fun exploring the island by bike and relaxing on the beach.  After seeing the view of the harbor from the lawn of the White Elephant I knew that we had found the perfect place for our wedding. We loved the natural beauty of the island, as well as the charming downtown scene and couldn’t wait to share it with our family and friends, most whom had never been there. There is something about the island feels like a far away place and for us it was the perfect blend of a destination wedding with a classic New England feel.

I wanted the flowers to be colorful and feel effortless, so I chose the color palate of pinks and peach to stay true to the summertime feeling and the light airiness of being on the harbor. I knew that I was not going to wear a veil, so I had some coordinating pink flowers to wear in my hair, which added a nice touch of color. The setting of the White Elephant is so naturally beautiful that is didn’t need much embellishment, but we did have small chandeliers hanging from the ceiling to so that it would feel like a starry sky under the tent. I wanted to incorporate the memory of my father who passed away when I was younger, and I thought that a creative way to do that would be with the escort table. My dad loved his boat and taking our family out on it, so I used miniature sailboats as the name markers on the escort table. My sister created the “name flags” for each guest and set the sailboats in a bed of sea glass. It was my small way of incorporating something that my dad loved into our wedding day.
