Skirball Cultural Center Wedding by Jasmine Star Photography + Platinum Weddings by Kerrie

I am the first one to admit that I am the biggest fan on the planet of Jasmine Star. Not only is she sweet as can be but she also graces SMP with insanely gorgeous pictures like this perfect Los Angeles number. It’s full of sleek city chic details concocted by Platinum Weddings by Kerrie and dripping in florals by Nisie’s Enchanted Florist. It’s a total dream and comes complete with two beautiful dresses AND two knockout pairs of shoes. A lucky lady that Bride is. See the full day from pretty shoes to pretty cake here!

From the Bride…We envisioned our wedding to have a theme of modern elegance. What really made our theme work was the venue we picked. Skirball has such amazing modern architecture that isn’t too minimalist or too overdone.  None of the ballrooms were overdone with colored wallpaper or anything. The building almost felt like a canvas for us to work with, which was great because we felt like we could transform the place to whatever we wanted.

For the look of the wedding, we wanted to keep to our theme and therefore keeping things relatively simple. It was easy to do this with the color palette we picked. The walls at Skirball are a bluish gray, which worked with into our color theme. We wanted to pledge our vows under a flowing structure instead of a rigid structure so we brought in a chuppah-like structure draped in ivory chiffon. To keep the structure from looking rigid, the florist left the chiffon untied and each of the four corners was adorned with an arrangement of blooms.

A lot of what we wanted for the look of our wedding would not have been possible without Nisie’s amazing work. After telling her our vision, we decided to stick to mainly white/ivory flowers consisting of peonies, ranunculus, phalaenopsis orchids, stephanotis, French tulips, and roses. To add a hint of color, some of the arrangements incorporated blooms of a light blush color. Using white/ivory for all the floral arrangements helped accent all the other colors we had and really made things look more modern. We wanted to make sure that the floral arrangements were not dwarfed by the high sloping ceiling of the ballroom, so we decided to go with tall scattered type centerpieces where there were multiple arrangements instead of one single centerpiece. The only exceptions to the color scheme were the bridesmaid bouquets, which incorporated a few blush peonies and fuschia ranunculus to help accent the graphite gray dresses the girls wore.

For the lighting and mood of the reception ballroom, our DJs threw on LED lights throughout the entire ballroom and kept the colors varying from a soft moonlight to periwinkle to deep purple. The Ahmanson Ballroom ceiling has built-in pin spot lighting, which was used to highlight the centerpieces at each table. Overall, the theme of our wedding was accomplished by utilizing the space we had to work with and not overdoing things.
