These beautiful Australian nuptials are a much needed breath of fresh air for a landlocked blogger like myself. I can almost feel my toes in the sand and the breeze in my hair… And hear the ocean waves crashing nearby. I won’t be making it to the beach anytime soon, but I do have all of these gorgeous images by Photography by Emma Pointon to drool over in the meantime. And I can’t help but smile over all of the lovely details. I adore the neutral tones that mimic the beachy surroundings and the breathtaking views are stunning. And those bridesmaid dresses just might be my new faves. Yes, this wedding is definitely magical. Which is why I plan to spend a lot of time in the gallery soaking it all in. From Photography by Emma Pointon…Keely & Josh wanted a classical, but relaxed feel to their wedding. Keely and Josh went for a very neutral colour tone for the wedding to match the intense blue of the ocean and the white sands, limestone and shrubs of Rottnest Island, their ceremony location a 30 minute boat ride from Fremantle, Western Australia. The nautical theme crept up on them but the theme was subtle as they did not want everything taken over by ropes and compasses.
Parker Point on Rottnest Island was chosen for the ceremony location as it was the groom’s family holiday destination and is now a part of the couple’s lives as well. To get the 100 guests to Rottnest, a convoy of boats was needed and a group of friends from the Fremantle Sailing Club rallied together to organise 10 boats to bring over the guests to the island.
The reception was held at the Fremantle Sailing Club, where they are members. Because they wanted a large number of guests (100 is a large wedding in Australian terms), they needed to cut down on additional costs and had a number of friends and relatives help them out with keeping the costs down.
The invites, menus, stickers for jam bonbonnieres and seating plan was made by the groom’s sister, a talented designer. The flowers were all designed by a close friend, Fiona, a firefighter by day! She had a picture of a bouquet Keely found on SMP and the neutral colour theme to go by and came up with a gorgeous bouquet. The Bonbonnieres, marmalade and mulberry jam, were made by Keely’s Grandma and Josh’s Aunt and the cake was made by Keely’s Aunt Julie!
The garter was really something special. Keely’s mum made it for her and the square piece of fabric is actually the only piece left of her Grandma’s wedding dress. Then the brooch was something Keely’s Grandma’s mum was given in 1926. Keely’s grandma gave it to her the night before the wedding and it is something she wants to pass on to all the female grandchildren. Keely also wore a sixpence on a chain around her ankle. This was a present, for the day, from Keely’s mum and she was given it from her grandfather.
