From the Bride…Being seasoned wedding guests ourselves, RT and I had ample opportunity to think about what we liked best about all of our friends weddings. First and foremost we wanted our wedding to be a celebration of our family and friends. We shy-ed away from more traditional wedding ideas and tried to focus on one question “if I were a guest, would this be a great party?” In addition, we had a large guest list and a (relatively) small budget. RT and I both live in NYC, but we wanted to have the wedding in North Carolina. Not only did RT and I both go to Duke (where we met) but I spent several years living in Chapel Hill for my surgery training, and my parents have retired there as well.

Thanks to the unbelievable generosity and hard work of our good friends, Meredith and Tim Weiner, we had our reception out at their farm.  Their farm has a very special place in my heart, as the Weiners have been gracious and fun-loving hosts to many parties during my time in Chapel Hill.

Once our venue was decided upon, we found a wedding planner, Megan, from A Southern Soiree. She was wonderful at helping us find our wonderful vendors. She also really helped be our eyes and ears in North Carolina when it came to meeting with vendors and finalizing important details.  We could not have done it without her!  Our fantastic photographer, Robin Lin, really captured our personality in the photographs. The florist, Cydney English from the English Garden in Raleigh was phenomenal. She worked with my small budget to re-create a farmer’s market feel on our tables; it had a wonderful organic feel and was perfect.

RT and I love to find good food and really wanted something that people would have fun with and remember. We stayed away from traditional catering, and instead had amazing North Carolina barbecue from The QShack in Raleigh. I can’t say enough good things about Tom Meyer and his crew. People loved it! I’m not a wedding cake girl so instead we had delicious pies from Scratch Bakery in Durham and Locopops.
