Brattonsville Wedding by Ben Q Photography

There’s just something so romantic about South Carolina. Maybe it’s the slow, southern way of life and the sweet-as-can-be accents, but whatever it is, you can bet your booty that the weddings here bring on a whole new meaning to the word romantic. Especially when the bride and groom are high school sweethearts. I mean really, does it get any cuter? Mix in with that the most fabulous vintage decor and dress, and you have yourself a new SMP favorite! Captured by Ben Q, this wedding is sure to melt even the hardest of hearts out there! From the Bride…Walter & I have been together since 8th grade (almost 7 years!) and have been best friends since 6th grade. We have never broken up & went off to the same college (ECU) together. We both own a wedding photography business together & love it. So obviously we couldn’t wait to start planning our own wedding. We didn’t have a very large budget but knew we would be able to make it work. Obviously photography was the most important part of the day to us so we set aside a lot of our budget to fly in Ben & ChrysQ from Dallas, Texas & our wonderful videographers were from Greenville, SC. Also we hired Carla from Style Perfect Events to make sure all our awesome ideas became a reality on the wedding day. So since we well over half of our budget to our three most important vendors we had to be very creative with our decorations, food, & everything else. This meant that we made pretty much everything from the wedding.

When we started planning our wedding, the only thing we knew is that we wanted it to be at an old house, preferably a plantation, and we wanted to get married under oak trees. We thought about Charleston, Wilmington, and all kinds of locations but decided we definitely wanted to have the wedding closer to home for family. After searching all over for a venue, my mom (the bride’s) mentioned they had been down to Brattonsville before & that it was beautiful. We all took a trip down there and fell in love with Hightower Hall. It had been used in the movie The Patriot & so had some other parts of Brattonsville. It was exactly what we wanted especially since it had a lot of history to it as it had been built in 1856.

After we had the venue & the dress set, the rest of the ideas just fell into place. We went antique shopping & used a lot of my parent’s antiques they already had in their house. We tried to add creative touches everywhere such as our table numbers were on old windows, our guestbook was actually a painting & each guest painted a square, we had a photobooth, and we hired a lighting company to uplight the house & tent for us. We even drove away in a 1955 Bel-Air & had sunflower cupcakes! It was completely us in everyway. Vintage, but somewhat modern, and VERY casual. It was absolutely perfect & a blast.
