From the Bride…Casey and I met at the University of Southern California. We both lived on the same floor of our dorm freshman year.  As we were two of three people majoring in Cinema-Television on the floor, we spent a lot of time together watching movies. And arguing about movies.  And making movies.

Casey proposed to me on vacation in Costa Rica.  We were trying ziplining for the first time, and he arranged things so that we were the last in our group and got stopped on a tree, some fifty feet and swaying in the air!  I could barely answer him and made him carry the ring in his pocket until we were safely on the ground.  It was exhilarating and yet somehow still terrifying.

The overall theme was a loose interpretation of the steampunk genre.  We loved the vintage and classic elements it encompasses, and really tried to infuse that “old-timey mixed with new” feeling into our wedding.  Our colour palate was gold, brass and eggplant.  We used a motif of interlocking gears and applied it to the save-the-dates, invitations, escort cards, even the groomsmen’s ties had gears silk-screened onto them.  I wore purple heels that I found at a vintage store.  Casey and his brother even built our photo wall which we designed to look like it belonged in a Victorian-era home.  We also wanted to acknowledge our separate backgrounds (I’m Lebanese and Casey is Irish), so we had a bagpiper lead us out of the church after the ceremony and a group of Lebanese folk dancers perform at the reception.
