San Luis Obispo Wedding at Flying Caballos Ranch

Even though we are just now heading into spring I couldn’t help sharing this adorable autumn ranch wedding photographed by Mike Larson Inc. The Flying Caballos Ranch is the ultimate in California country settings but this wedding served up rustic with a side of awesome.  Electric blue heels and a wedding party rocking killer shades brought a little modern edge to this otherwise organically elegant affair.  Click here to see even more!

From the Bride… Our wedding took place in the fall in San Luis Obispo, Ca. We drew our inspiration from the rich colors of fall, the yellow farm house at our wedding site and the town we live and love, with it’s own laid back country feel.

Orange pumpkins for place markers (with hand cut leaves) invited guests to sit with their friends. Burlap and real acorns drew the eye to the center where milk jugs and real cream glasses held bright farm fresh flowers (the farm house is an old dairy).  The guests ate butternut squash raviolis and heirloom tomatoes family style, just like you would on the farm.

We were married in front of Islay hill, which we hike for sunset picnics (and every Valentine’s day).  A simple white metal arch was adorned with dried grape vines and burgundy flowers, while the bridesmaids all sported bright yellow (in ascending colors – darkest to lightest – MOH in the darkest) with pearls.  The men wore yellow ties (and yellow boutonnières) to complement the ladies with casual grey tuxes that were at home at the farm house.  After exchanging our vows we released butterflies (whose likeness you can see on our cupcakes).

My husband wore the same grey tux with an orange tie and a boutonnière of burgundy kangaroo paws. He was also seen wearing his black wafer sunglasses that matched his crew. (Or his bright yellow “shutter shades.”)

I wore a laced trumpet dress with bright blue shoes.  I wore my hair half up and half down with large, tight ringlets of hair cascading, with a simple hair ornament pinned to one side.  I wore a double strand of vintage pearls for my necklace and little pearl drops for earrings. I was also seen sporting bright red vintage sunglasses that matched my girl’s black vintage sunglasses.

Our wedding was a blast and was so much fun to plan.  We really stuck to our theme and weren’t afraid to use lots of bold color.  The setting was beautiful, but the details really pulled the whole thing off (lots of details!).  I hope that we can inspire other brides, it was really hard for me to find any weddings that inspired me and it took me many long hours of inspiration “battles” to come up with anything I liked.
