We know that lots of you scour magazines and blogs for great DIY ideas and create your own little book of favorites. Thoughts of “I LIKE that. I can DO that,” racing through your crafty and creative minds. Well, that’s just what this clever bride and groom did … lots and lots of charming DIY details that filled their wedding with their own colorful personalities. It was really important to us that our wedding be fun and memorable, and that all our friends and family had a wonderful time so we made sure to include a lot of personalized touches. Each of my bridesmaids could select the dress of her choice from a color palette I’d selected that way they all had a cohesive look as far as color, but that also allowed each of them to select a dress style that they felt comfortable in and that made them feel great. I also wanted to make sure they were taken care of from head to toe so I glittered the straps of flip flops I’d purchased in each of their sizes and left them as gifts on each of their seats at the reception so once the dancing started they could change into stylish, comfy shoes! I also did the same for my mom and new mother-in-law too!
We also gifted each of the groomsmen with ties in two patterns they could choose from, that were handmade by Jane at the amazing Etsy shop Tux & Tulle; loved her!!
I wanted to present our rings in a really creative way that tied into the overall theme of our wedding day so I handmade two moss filled birds nests that we tied each of our rings to for our stylish little groomsmen to carry.
To start the evening in a fun and lighthearted way, we ordered small personalized buttons in the two colors we were using throughout our wedding; light pink and a great spring green. The pink buttons said “I’m with the bride” and the green buttons said “I’m with the groom” and were ordered from Becky at the Etsy shop The Pink Samurai. They were placed in a glass jar next to our guest book (a photo book of our engagement photos that we made through Shutterfly) so guests could show their family pride! They were a huge hit and my in-laws even decided to wear one of each button for the night which was really special.
For our reception we wanted to make sure we engaged with our guests even when we couldn’t be there from the very beginning as we were taking photos so we decided to create a crossword puzzle about us (there are TONS of options online that you can download free of pay a minimal fee for). Guests spent the cocktail hour enjoying each others company and chatting amongst themselves at each table trying to uncover the answers to each clue as they ranged from where we were heading on our honeymoon, our favorite places to hang out, the site of our first date, etc. Everyone really loved it!
We also wanted to take advantage of all the advice we could gather from our friends and family so we created notecards with the lovebird design from our invitations that said, “A little birdie told me…” and left them in a mini vintage suitcase for our guests to leave us with words of wisdom for our marriage. We packed them up when we departed our reception and read them on the drive home and we definitely gathered plenty of great advice and well wishes from our family and friends!
