This might go down in history as the longest (and cutest) proposal story ever. This darling groom sent his lovely bride on a year-long treasure hunt until the final clue, the ring, waited for her on her pillow. Adorable, right? The treasure hunt didn’t stop there, the guests were brought into the fun with an invitation that had them figure out the date, location and who was getting married. If you think you love this couple already, they also had their bridal party walk down the aisle to aisle to Great Balls of Fire (true story). To say this wedding, designed by Shannon Leahy Events,was fun would be the understatement of the year. From Shannon of Shannon Leahy Events…Jason Langheier and Louise Davis met at a conference for non-profit leaders. At the time, Louise was running Peer Health Exchange, a non-profit that teaches sex education and AIDS awareness to high school students. She started the organization when she was in college. Jason had just completed Med School at Duke and was starting his own non-profit, Fitness Forward, that promotes fitness and exercise among children and young families. It was a meeting of the minds and it wasn’t long before Jay initiated a year-long treasure hunt proposal. Louise was given clues throughout the year that led her to a ring hidden under her pillow (locked in a box that required a special key she received six months ago!). This theme of a treasure hunt played into their wedding from it’s tropical setting to an invitation that gave guests clues to figure out the date, location and couples names (an answer key was included of course!). We setup a message in a bottle for the guest book, where guests put notes in a bottle that the bride and groom will crack open on their one year anniversary.
Because health is such an important part of their lives they wanted to have a nutritional meal and opted against a traditional wedding cake. Instead they chose a Belgian waffle bar with healthy toppings like fresh bananas, strawberries, and just a smidgen of chocolate sauce :). Guests were given flip-flops, pashminas and a guest gift of hot sauce, a Buffalo favorite. The happy, active couple also had their large bridal party dance down the aisle to “Great Balls of Fire” and had an choreographed swing/hip-hop dance they performed for their first dance.
