Hooray for Wednesday! Not only are we that much closer to the weekend but today is the day we pile on the wedding inspiration with full force! In order to bring you weddings from morning to night we’ll only share a snap shot of each so make sure you head over to the full galleries to get an even bigger dose of pretty!
We’ll start with a pretty in pink, Nova Scotia wedding from Alex MacAulay Photography. This dare-devil bride and groom brought together their friends and family for an east coast (Canadian) adventure complete with a lobster feast! Grant and I have been dating…FOR 10 Years! Our ‘match’ was a surprise set-up by a mutual friend. It still took 9 months for us to start dating after that initial meeting, but 10 years later we are married. We live in Toronto, Ontario, and in October 2009, we were visiting family in Nova Scotia. We were strolling our favourite beach on Halloween day, and it was a sunny, cold, and windy typical Nova Scotia fall day, when Grant bent down on scooped a black rock and a handful of white sand from the beach, and asked me to marry him. I said YES immediately and we both sort of stumbled around in disbelief for the rest of the day.
We both knew we wanted a short engagement, and we wanted to get married near the ocean in Nova Scotia. We set the date for June 26th. Over the next two visits to the East Coast, we found a perfect property with 3 acres, direct ocean front for the wedding and reception site. The property was located in a small village on the South Shore of the province, and had a small barn on site, and with a tent attached to it, we knew right away that it would be the perfect setting for our intimate gathering. As we were planning a ‘destination’ wedding, we wanted our guests to be treated to the full East Coast experience, so we planned 3 days of activities, complete with a welcome atlantic Surf afternoon, a Friday night BBQ, the wedding on Saturday, and a mid-day farewell Tea on Sunday.
Grant is passionate about motorcycling, and I about surfing. We combined the two passions and planned a surf day to welcome our guests, and rented all the local surf shop’s boards and wetsuits for the afternoon. My wedding present from Grant was a custom designed surf board with the words “i promise” painted on the back of the board, with a drawing of my favourite flower, magnolias. He visited the board shaper and signed the words himself. I usually surf on the Great Lakes, so surfing in the Atlantic is always a treat. Grant secretly asked my Dad to make a roof rack for the top of our truck to transport the gift from Ontario to the East Coast. My wedding present to Grant was a custom designed wool blanket, made by a good friend, Julie Moschenross, with a map of the Great Lakes on one side and a map of Kingsburg on the other.
We sourced as much local material as possible for the wedding, including mostly local flowers (from family gardens), local lobster, oysters, famous Lunenburg sausage and a late night clam chowder. We asked a local fiddler and her band to play for us and create a true East Coast ‘kitchen party’.
Grant designed our wedding invitations and created a ‘2 wave’ logo that was also painted onto my surf board, and to soften the drawing of the Atlantic black waves, we added some pink to our colour scheme. My mom and sister hand-dyed over 4,000 coffee filters, dried them, sewed them together and flat packed them for travel, then re-poofed them on site, ready for hanging.
The wedding day was cool, with overcast skies, that eventually gave way to let the sun shine in 15 min after our ‘I DO’s’. The fiddle music and food was perfect and we had heaters in the tent to keep us warm. We danced and celebrated until the early morning, and had a guest appearance from a local Piper! My most memorable time of the day was the time spent before the wedding in our 2 hour photo shoot with Grant, my sister and the his Best Man. It was a wonderful ‘quiet’ time to relax before the wedding and capture the beautiful setting and wonderful ocean smells.
