So if the inspiration board wasn’t gorgeous enough on its own, you’re pretty much going to die when you see how Azar over at Principal Planner transformed it into a wedding dream come true. The photography, captured by Davina Plus Daniel, is perfection and you totally get a sense of just how gorgeous this was in person. And don’t even get me started on the paper goods by Sweet Peony Press. I would pretty much KILL to see one of you translate this into a real wedding…the black birdcage veil, the modern and yet crazy gorgeous black and white color palette, the easy-to-replicate and yet so totally chic details. From Azar of Principal Planner Weddings & Events…
I started the design where I always do; with the invitation. Since I’m so visual, I actually made my way over to Toronto to meet with Sweet Peony Press for a design consult. I always feel that once the invitation is designed, everything else seems so obvious and easy to see through.
I had the leather tufted white frame custom made for the shoot. It doubled as both the backdrop for the cake & the photo-booth. The floral arrangement was somewhat of a DIY project. I found these great crystal candle holders and essentially lined them up to create a base for the florals. We created a wooden tray that was glued down to the candle holders and the bed of flowers was placed right on top.
Another thing I often do is use shot glasses to prop things up. In this shoot, I used them to give height to the Petit Boudoir trays. Also, I used lace all around- adding a little to the bouquet braid, creating my own wine goblet appliqués and even using it as a band attached to the menus. Details make all the difference! You all know the saying: “Don’t sweat the small stuff” , well, when it comes to creating a show-stopping design, the small stuff create the awe. Just, have fun doing it.
With a strictly black and white colour palette, I felt the need to add a touch of powder blue to lighten up the overall feel of things. You can see this colour detail on the beautifully designed cake to the letter-pressed favour boxes adorned with vanilla coloured roses. The hand sewn fabric rosettes lend an haute couture element that honestly make me want to run home and add one to every chair around the house!
Feast your eyes on the bride’s attire. When I saw her all dressed up, I decided to add a bit of drama by wrapping a glamourous necklace around the waistline. Don’t be afraid to step outside the box and try something different. In my opinion, fashion is all about breaking the rules.
Moving on to the Petit Boudoir. I wanted to create a unique spread for the ladies room. The ultimate favour for the girls to pamper themselves while freshening up. To keep with the design of lace and fabric details, I removed the water bottle labels and added a lace appliqué for a finished look. With some scented soap, makeup and even nail polish the table showcases itself like dessert buffet. Irresistible.
