Modern Outdoor Wedding Inspiration

If you have been missing the wit and wisdom of our dear Abby, fear not. She is neck deep in moving mania so we are filling in while she is getting her new house in order. She will be back very, very soon though…we promise!

In the meantime, we are going to cap things off with some fabulous modern outdoor wedding inspiration from our favorite Jessica Claire. She teamed up with a handful of crazy talented vendors to create this little gem. Let’s see, we have design and coordination from Joyful Weddings and Events, crisp, modern florals and design by JL Designs, chic paper goods by Posh Paperie and the most delicious looking dessert spread from Sweet and Saucy Shop, just to name a few. Together all of these power hitters created a modern wonderland and if you are still craving a little inspiration, there is so much more in the gallery. Check it out.

From Courtney Toney of Joyful Weddings and Events:

When I first envisioned the workshop design, I knew that I wanted to do something modern and clean with a touch of glamour and craftiness. I took inspiration from interior design, having found a few photos of rooms with turquoise walls and black and white modern fabric accents. Knowing that the shoot would take place in a wilderness park, I loved the idea of juxtaposing the modern feel with the natural background. Carissa of JL Designs came on board and we knew immediately where we would turn for rentals: Luxe Event Rentals. Their selection of unique, stylish furniture for events is unmatched. We selected a mixture of clean white pieces and accented with some furniture from my own home.

I had a vision in my head to incorporate large circles of fabric, hung in embroidery hoops. It turned out perfectly! We hung different sized hoops on the ceremony tree and Carissa accented them with black and white anemones. To continue the discreet crafty feel, I used wooden spools to hold the place cards and also the dessert labels. After searching for hours for the perfect fabric, I came up with close matches but not the exact black and white print I had hoped for. I turned to designers extraordinaire Posh Paperie to create paper to mimic the design I had in my head. We used this designed paper throughout the entire design – from the centerpiece vases, to the programs, to the ring bearer flag, to the dessert boxes and even used on the embroidery hoops.

For the florals, Carissa used ranunculus, hydrangea, china mums and anemones to create lush white arrangements. She also incorporated candlesticks and other home decor pieces into the tablescape and other details. To customize the chairs for the intimate ceremony set up, Carissa tied a cluster of white china mums to each chair. the bouquet was made up of white ranunculas, black/white anemones and curled black ti leaves, then wrapped in white ribbon with a modern, geometric black trim. The boutonniere was made up of a black/white anemone and accented by a bit of black ti leaf.

Melody of Sweet and Saucy Shop created one of my favorite dessert tables to date. Taking our graphic print and incorporating it on the desserts themselves, she overlooked no detail. Not only was it insanely stylish, but the treats, including cake pops, brownies, meringue cookies, whoopee pies, sugar cookies, chocolate mousse shooters, mini cupcakes, cheesecakes and key lime pies, were delicious. Not to mention the amazing cake itself!

We scoured etsy to pull together all of the amazing accessories for our bride and groom. Lo Boheme’s headpieces made the bride’s outfit and Heart of Light’s turquoise sash brightened up her gown. The groom’s tie was made to match fabric used for the large ceremony circles and also the ring bearer pillow. Other fun details included custom necklaces made for bridesmaid’s gifts and a custom pewter heart, containing a line from the chosen first dance song (both made by Lisa Leonard). I created a flag for the ring bearer to carry, which was more fun (and thus lasting) for a toddler to carry as well. With all of the details, our goal was to keep things streamlined and cohesive and the result was an accessible but beautifully styled wedding design.
