Ahhhh. I am still reeling from yesterday’s From Inspiration to Wedding feature. Of course because it was one of my besties tying the knot, but also because going through all of the photographs again, brought it all back…the crazy, crazy adventure and the insane amount of fun Sarah True and I had bringing Libby and Patrick’s dream wedding to life. So, since you’ve already feasted on all of the behind the scenes goodness, we thought you might like to see the wedding itself…through the lens of Libby’s wedding photographer Chuck Arlund of Arlund Imagery. His photographs tell the story so so beautifully…all twinkly and gorgeous thanks to the amazing lighting that Blake at Nashville Event Lighting did for us. The night truly sparkled…

There really are no words to tell you how I feel about my wedding. It was magic…everything I ever dreamed it would be. So instead of trying to find some clever way to start things off, I’ll just take you back to the beginning!
I chose the 7th floor outdoor garden of the Pinnacle building–the newest addition to Nashville’s skyline–for the reception, and an uber traditional old, stone, chapel for our ceremony. We chose an invitation suite by the amazing and talented Laura Hooper that pictured a pink chandelier, a theme which was carried throughout the wedding decor. Sarah True of True Event really brought the vision to life, by incorporating unique finds from unexpected places that truly represented all things urban girly.
The planning was going swimmingly, and we were in the home stretch. I was on my bachelorette weekend with a few close friend in New York when we got word that our flights were cancelled because of the weather in Nashville. At that time, I had NO IDEA what the next two weeks would hold. When we were finally able to fly back into Nashville, we began to discover the disaster that had occurred in our beloved city. Homes were under water, downtown streets impassible, buildings floating down the interstate–it was truly incomprehensible. Among the many flooded buildings was the Pinnacle building–there were 40 plus feet of water in our reception venue, less than 3 weeks before our wedding. We were told at that point that all events were cancelled until further notice.
Patrick and I decided at that point that more than anything, we just wanted to get married on May 22, so we told all of our vendors to just sit tight while we (and Abby and the experts) figured out all of the details. Abby and Sarah confidently assured me that no matter where we were, they would make the reception perfect–and my wonderful and fantastic friends and family really jumped in fully to help me in every way imaginable–from making calls, to sending emails out to concerned guests, to moving our rehearsal dinner from its flooded venue–you name it. And as fate would have it…The Pinnacle opened its doors 5 days before our reception. I was beside myself ecstatic, and just so thankful that we wouldn’t have to continue implementation of a backup plan.
As for our wedding must-haves…I think that Patrick and I both have some really traditional and some really contemporary aspects of our personalities, and we definitely wanted to incorporate both on our wedding day. We wanted our wedding to reflect our love for the traditional, and we chose Scarritt Bennett Chapel, which is adjacent to Vanderbilt (where we both went to college, but didn’t ever meet), for our ceremony. Our guests entered to old, traditional hymns, including How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace, two of my favorites. Our vows were truly a reflection of our faith and commitment to one another, and were without a doubt my favorite part of the day. I carried a brooch on my bouquet that my mom had made for me out of my grandmother’s pin, and charms from a charm bracelet that was worn by my mom and grandmother for many years (including the charm that my dad gave to my mom on their wedding day). I had a handkerchief made for my mom to carry down the aisle out of the remains of my baby blanket. We carried over some of those family heirlooms into the reception too. We used a knife that was used by Patrick’s parents to cut their wedding cake, his aunt and sisters wedding cakes, and their 40th anniversary cake–and is engraved with all of those dates and now ours! We also used the toasting flutes that my parents used to celebrate their wedding.
