If only we all looked like those models in the magazines. The fact is, we all have our own unique shape and there is a dress style out there to complement yours. You can find the perfect wedding dress to suit your body type by following a few simple guidelines. The most important thing to remember when shopping for a gown is to keep an open mind and to try on a variety of styles and silhouettes. The goal is to find a dress that makes you feel beautiful and comfortable.

If you have an hourglass or “curvy” figure, an A-line gown with a dropped waist and a sweetheart neckline is the perfect formula to flatter your figure. This shape will highlight your bust and waist beautifully. If you have a short torso or are “short-waisted”, a gown that is fitted through the bodice, such as a dropped-waist silhouette will look gorgeous on you.
If you are petite, you will want to keep it simple by wearing a stunning sheath or modified A-line gown. Your small frame may get lost in a larger, more elaborate gown.

If your waist is undefined, try an Empire-waist gown, which flows from just under the bust all the way to the floor. This silhouette will have the effect of elongating your body. On the other hand, if you have your heart set on a gown with a defined waist, nothing is better than an old-fashioned corset to really “give” you a waist.

If you are pear shaped, I recommend a strapless ballgown or an empire waist gown. I especially love an empire waist gown that has dramatic beading on the top and a flowy silk chiffon bottom.

If you have a voluptuous figure, try an A-line dress or ballgown. I love a colored or beaded sash worn at the natural waist to really show off your figure! Don’t be afraid to try a strapless dress, with the correct undergarments, you will have plenty of support and look fabulous!

If you are tall and thin, a ball gown or a mermaid gown will work beautifully on you because these silhouettes will visually create a bit more shape to your figure.
