Real Wedding: Ana and Kevin, IV

As much as I loved our DIY feature, I was having a real wedding withdrawal…so today’s featured affair seems even sweeter. The pure romance of the day, the sexy vintage inspired photographs that Docuvitae shot, the ridiculously lovely bride. Loving every bit of it.

Rebecca and Jenny of Docuvitae have been sweet enough to share a little behind the scenes glimpse at their photography style and approach…

In terms of photography, our approach was very much in line with the documentary, journalistic style that Docuvitae is known for.  Ana and Kevin incorporated some film in their package that I shot using several vintage, medium format cameras in addition to more contemporary 35mm film and digital cameras.  They wanted the day to unfold organically and not be hindered by a lot of pre-planned, staged portraits and shots so we were the perfect fit.

Our main goal is to remain unobtrusive and provide a record of the day with both journalistic, candid photos and some great fine art photography for them to decorate their home with.  I was working with Ana directly during the booking process and had gotten to know her pretty well by the time the wedding day came around.  I knew that her family was incredibly important to her and knew (with her input) that Kevin was going to be a little uncomfortable in front of the camera.

He told me after the wedding that he has never felt so at ease with cameras around and was so comfortable with me by the time we got to the venue, that he forgot I was even there!  Ana, too, was put at ease from the get-go and was so accommodating throughout the day.  She even got up in the middle of her dinner to make sure I had gotten a plate for myself!
