A HUGE congratulations to Jocelyn and Brandon for winning the WedVert Wedding Gown Giveaway! The pair is using their wedding to really make a difference in our world’s green efforts so from SMP and WedVert, we are thrilled to gift Joceyln one of the drop-dead gorgeous, totally eco-chic gowns from Vert by Jessica Iverson.

Here is a snippet from Jocelyn’s incredibly thoughtful entry…
Brandon and I are getting married next June. We’re working with a local environmental group in Ohio called the Owl Creek Conservancy. This is a small but amazing land trust working to help landowners in Knox County, Ohio conserve their private lands through conservation easements.

To celebrate the Owl Creek Conservancy, Brandon and I are having an owl-themed wedding. We’re sending 100% recycled paper save-the-dates using a custom stamp and the rest of our information will be on our owl-themed wedding website! The wedding is a family affair- my mom’s an artist and will be getting all the paint and paper for our placecards. My sister’s a graphic designer and will do the web design. My parent’s have a beautiful garden and so we’re planting the native grasses, mosses and flowers we want for the wedding now. My bouquet will be wildflowers cut from my mother’s backyard garden.
Instead of favors, we’re making a donation to the Owl Creek Conservancy. We’re using simple white organic linens, and my mom is going to make many cupcakes instead of going to a fancy bakery in the nearest big city (an 1.5 hour drive!). We’re trying to find little ways to have vintage and old items in our wedding. We’ve found our porcelain owl wedding cake toppers on ebay for $5! For music, we’re just playing our ipod instead of hiring someone to drive up to our wedding site.
Our reception will take place on the campus of Kenyon College- the catering company there is well-known for their sustainable, local dining services. They work with local farmers to get seasonal, sustainably-grown meat, dairy, and other grains. Instead of cutting fresh flowers, which makes me feel kind-of sad, we’re going to have moss-filled terrariums as our centerpieces. The centerpieces will be great because our family and friends will be able to keep them afterward. We’re scouting through local antique stores to find vintage mason jars and vases instead of buying new.
The only part of our wedding I’m struggling to make green is with my wedding dress! I was searching for vintage dresses but since I’m 5′10″, it’s harder than I expected. I want to look beautiful on my wedding day and once I saw the Vert line, I was stunned by the beauty and elegance of these gowns, but also so pleased and amazed that they were eco-friendly!!
I hope our wedding idea finds us worthy of the grand prize wedding dress! Thanks for creating a contest that encourages curious brides-to-be to seek out green options for their special days.
CONGRATULATIONS, Joceyln and Brandon! We thank you for giving us such insipration to throw a beautiful, green wedding. And, thank you so much to WedVert for hosting such an incredible giveaway!
