Abby Jiu captures wedding in a way that makes my heart sing. And this beauty at the Trump National Golf Club is no different. It’s classic perfection with a layer of romance woven in for good measure, leaving me speechless from start to finish. Top it all off with a Bride that couldn’t be more lovely and one seriously dapper groom, and we’ve got a winner on our hands. See even more here.
From the Bride…Our wedding was almost a decade in the making. Greg and I met 9 years ago at a software start-up company, fell madly in love, and the rest was history. After years of long distance, moving from one coast to the other, Greg proposed at sunset on the beautiful Hawaii North Shore.
We decided to get married on the east coast, where we both grew up, because we wanted all of our family and friends to be able to attend our special day. Trump National Golf was the perfect venue for us, with a gorgeous ceremony deck built above a cascading waterfall, and floor to ceiling windows in the magnificent ballroom looking out the Potomac River and luscious green golf course.
We chose a classic color palate of ivory and gold, accented with romantic white, pink, and peach hues for our black-tie affair. Our wedding was filled with Etsy treasures (Greg was an engineer at Etsy for several years) from our save the dates and wedding invitations, to our customized bridesmaids robes and jewelry, ring bearer pillow, canvas guestbook, and so much more. We also included DIY elements such as the wedding card box made by my father, flower petal toss cones made from lace doilies, ceremony programs finished with satin ribbon, and our classic dinner menu cards. A month before the wedding, I found rustic metal Eiffel tower stands to hold our table cards (named after cities world-wide that we had traveled to as a couple) but needed several more. Our parents went on a “treasure-hunt” and after a few weeks we were able to find identical Eiffel towers at local Home Goods stores in SF, DC, and NJ for every guest table.
The week of the wedding my Maid of Honor gifted us with a beautiful custom designed map that highlighted cities that had significance in our lives together as a couple. We mounted the map on foam board, had it framed, and our guests who traveled from all over including Taiwan and Australia could place a pin to represent where they came from.
On the day of our wedding, the clouds were ominous as we got ready, and it started raining on our way over to the venue. Luckily, the rain would stop just minutes before our ceremony began. The 3 minutes walking down the aisle while our string quartet played Somewhere Over the Rainbow were the most emotional of my life. I could barely keep it together.
From beginning to end there was not a dry eye in the house. Our wedding was made especially memorable by Greg’s dad officiating our wedding ceremony, the personal vows that Greg and I wrote to each other, the emotional heartfelt speeches that our fathers gave, and a special ukelele performance of ” The Way You Are” by my former college roommate. Our fabulous six-piece band learned our first dance song “Your Song” by Elton John months in advance, and our guests cheered as Greg spun and dipped me around the dance floor. There were a few hiccups and surprises that made our day more endearing: our 1 year-old bare-footed ring-bearer took a tumble down the aisle, Greg dropped the cake on the floor before I could take a bite, and my younger sister and Greg’s younger brother unexpectedly caught the bouquet and garter. I could not have wished for anything better, surrounded by our family and friends, good food, beautiful decor, and a room filled with so much love and happiness. It was the most perfect day.
