Drawing from the breathtaking scenery of the bride and groom’s family homes, this is a wedding that is all at once elegant and simplistic in its beauty. From the florals crafted by William Sweet Floral to the gorgeously sweet J.Crew wedding gown to the pops of color filling the tented reception. Orchard Cove Photography was on hand to capture every moment and, believe you me, this is a gallery you must see.
From the beautiful Bride… Because the location was the most important part of our wedding, it determined the style and decor. That meant that we tried to keep the vibe natural, simple and elegant. I knew that the lush green trees, fields and mountains and blue skies of Vermont in early August would dominate the scene so chose a color scheme that would pop against that background: a palette of scarlets, corals and nudes.
Each of my bridesmaids chose a different color dress in that scheme and it created an ombre effect that I loved. We had the men’s ties handmade in that color scheme as well and they were absolute works of art. Jay and I kept it pretty traditional in gray and white and my dress was very, very simple. The two bits of whimsy I did go for were my vintage cobalt blue shoes as my something blue and a very long veil that some close friends made me. It was such fun to have the veil picked up and carried around by the wind — drawing attention, again, to the natural world around us.
We were married in one of my family’s upper fields with nothing to decorate the spot other than the landscape and views. The reception was in a tent in our lower field, which abuts Jay’s family’s house, and houses our barns. Again, we kept the decor very simple with a mix of farmhouse tables and circular tables with muted gray and peach linens and simple white chairs that wouldn’t sink into the ground! I had mostly wildflowers, with a few garden roses, and the flowers for the flower girls actually came right out of Jay’s Mom’s garden. We had an additional tent set up between our barns for barn dancing and by the end of it, we had broken the floor! Our guests just moved into the actual barns for more improv dancing!
