#SMPWedding101 – Choosing Your Wedding Jewelry

My grandmother wore a beautiful little ring on her pinky finger when she got married, and my mom wore the same one. So when it came time for me to walk down the aisle, it was a given, and as I slipped that petite piece on my finger, I felt the specialness wash over me. The jewelry you don on your wedding day instantly sparkles a bit more and Lauren Hartman of Trousseau Style couldn’t agree more – and she’s here sharing more tips and ideas for making those special stones shine even brighter!

Go Classic

Your wedding jewelry should be something you cherish for years to come, not a reminder of the season’s hottest trends. Opt for timeless pieces that complement your dress and offer a touch of sparkle. Vintage or vintage inspired pieces are usually a safe bet as the trends have already withheld the test of time. When it comes to gems, you can’t go wrong with pearls. Bright luminous pearls stand out and complement your white dress. Plus, they never go out of style.

Mind the Metals

Your wedding jewelry doesn’t have to match the metal of your engagement ring and wedding band; mixing metals is totally acceptable, and welcomed! But, if you have major metal accents or beading on your dress or shoes, the metal on your jewelry should match.

But Not Too Much…

Your engagement ring and wedding band do not have to match the metal of your husband’s wedding band. You’ll be wearing these rings for the rest of your life, so go with what reflects your personality!

Switch It Up

For the style conscious bride who is just dying to spice things up, consider switching up your look for the reception! Make a statement as a new Mrs. with bold earrings or necklace.

Check Out What You Already Own

Your wedding jewelry can become some of your favorite, most treasured pieces in your jewelry box. Not only do they spark memories of your special day, they tell a story. I commissioned a gold necklace and bracelet with three heirloom pearls I got on my 13th birthday. I gave my mom and sister matching bracelets (talk about a tear jerker!). We all wear the jewels everyday and cherish the memory.

Take Care

Since so much time and effort goes into choosing the perfect pieces to wear on your wedding day, you want to make sure they will last for years to come. Choosing jewelry made of high quality materials like white gold, yellow gold or platinum are great choices. Be sure to store your jewelry in a clean dry place away from other jewelry to avoid tangles.

A Farm Wedding With a Big Dose of Color!

With the vision for a casual, “backyard chic” celebration, it’s no wonder Ragan and DeAndra chose a working farm as the backdrop for their Colorado wedding. We Tie The Knots came alongside the couple as they planned the details, including no shortage of whimsy, color, and style. Thanks to Connie Whitlock we’ve got an entire gallery ready to make your Friday so much sweeter. See it all here!

From the Bride… Ragan and I met almost 10 years ago at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. A love for the same band led to an effortless and unwavering friendship that took 8 years to blossom into the deepest love either of us had ever known or thought possible. The perfect progression.

After a Christmas proposal with the Eiffel Tower as the backdrop, we knew we had a hard act to follow. Having both grown up and lived all our lives in Colorado, we didn’t want to stray too far for our special day. The Farmette in Lyons, CO ended up being the perfect venue for our laid back, “backyard chic” vision. Being an active, working farm, the open layout fostered movement for our guests and provided a less structured setting. The fallen branch was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony and the reception space was large enough to compliment farm table seating, food trucks, and an open fire S’mores station.

The overall color palette accomplished by my floral designer and wedding planner was, undoubtedly, one of the most exceptional components of the day. Going into the design process, never before have Ragan and I felt so out of our element! It was in that moment that we made the decision to let them run with it all and were we ever so glad we did.

There were so many special touches that will always hold a place in our memories. The invitation suite, beautifully designed and created by Ragan’s cousin who owns Steracle Press in Chicago, set the stage for the overall feel of the wedding. The reclaimed wood escort card stand handmade by my father was awe-inspiring and immediately grabbed the attention of arriving guests. A handkerchief that belonged to my great grandmother and a pin of my grandmother’s tied to my bouquet not only fulfilled my old, borrowed and blue, but also served as a symbol of their presence on the big day. Our favorite bluegrass band, Rapidgrass Quintet, kept the ceremony light and fun and carried the jovial feel of the evening from cocktail hour through dinner. Homemade, lavender-infused honey from the Farmette thanked our guests for attending while glow sticks and sunglasses took the DJ and dancers late into the night.

We’re so fortunate to be able to say that we had our dream wedding. It was truly our version of perfection, exemplified. We couldn’t have been luckier to have a more supportive and talented team there to guide us along the way and execute it impeccably. If there’s any advice I can give for future brides, it’s to make sure you have a good, overall vision and then to assemble a team you trust and let them do what they do best. Throughout what can be a stressful time, be sure to enjoy the process; all of it.

4 Little White Dresses for EVERY Wedding Event

Hi, everyone! I’m Mackenzie from Design Darling and I’m excited to share a little bridal fashion inspiration with you today! You already know from our engagement photos that I’ve been obsessed with outfit planning for the biggest day of my life and today’s post is further proof.

One of the best pieces of advice I received after getting engaged came from my friend, bridesmaid, and former SMP blogger bride Ali, who told me to start keeping an eye out for little white dresses because they can be difficult to find during the fall and winter months. Since we got engaged last Christmas Eve, a family friend asked to host an engagement party for us that February and it was unsurprisingly difficult for me to track down the perfect LWD in the dead of winter. I turned to Rent The Runway who came through with this long-sleeved Shoshanna dress that was appropriate for a mild February in Dallas and still festive enough to make me feel like a bride!

I thought I would do a little inspiration shoot with our wedding photographers Cameron and Jamelle to share four little white dresses that would work for all sorts of wedding occasions. Something I didn’t realize before we got engaged is just how many wedding festivities there are leading up to the actual day! Think engagement party, bachelorette weekend, bridal shower, bridesmaids’ luncheon, welcome party, rehearsal dinner… The list goes on! Featured in this post are four little white dresses I rented from Rent The Runway that I absolutely adore. I hope it helps you find the perfect outfit for your next bridal event!

First up is the Shoshanna dress that I wore for our engagement party. Fit-and-flare silhouettes are universally flattering and the long sleeves make it a great option for a fall or winter event. One great thing about Rent The Runway is that you can add dresses to your favorites throughout the year so you have a long list of options for various events as they pop up. I also love that there are tons of reviews for nearly every item and you can order a second dress size to increase the odds that you’ll find the perfect fit for you! I wore it with bright blue heels and statement earrings but if it’s extra chilly where you live, you could always add opaque tights and a black pump.

My second favorite is this tiered lace Nicholas dress. The longer length isn’t something I typically gravitate towards but the fitted top and lower neckline balance it out perfectly! The lace is so stunning in person and I love the pretty shadows it cast in the sunlight. Definitely a fun little detail shot for the weekend of your wedding! I wear these nude sandals to almost every wedding we attend because they’re comfortable enough to wear all day and dance on all night. I also wore these sparkly sunburst earrings for a fun mix of high and low!

If you need a little white dress for a warm weather wedding event, this Carven dress is simple and gorgeous. The asymmetrical detail on the front of the dress makes it a little more fashion-forward than your average LWD and the thicker fabric means you don’t have to stress about what to wear underneath. I paired it with turquoise tassel earrings and my favorite nude heels for a look that’s perfect for the summer months!

Last but not least, I couldn’t resist trying on this gold floral Lela Rose dress. Our wedding will have a less formal feel, but this would be ideal for a rehearsal dinner before a black tie wedding. I love that it has a little movement in the back, though I think it might have looked better on me if I were a couple inches taller (I’m 5’1″ for reference!). Thankfully these Alice + Olivia bow pumps do add a bit of height. The quality is unbelievable though so I would definitely add it to your wish list if you’re having a formal affair!

I’d love to hear what little white dresses you’ve worn or been eyeing for all your bridal festivities. With ten months remaining until our wedding, I know I’ll be needing several more!
