The thing that I love about this wedding is that it isn’t at all pretentious, it isn’t at all stuffy or over designed. It’s simple, adorable elegance and seems to define the bride and groom to perfection. Emily, the insanely beautiful bride, is the owner of Frenchie & Flea, a FAB invitation brand, and is personally responsible for basically all of the picture perfect details. Oh and the photographer, Cameron Ingalls…well, see for yourself. Total perfection.

Our wedding day goal was to create a relaxed, festive, and FUN environment for our friends and family to let loose and celebrate! My favorite color is yellow, and I based my overall design for the day around it.  I accented the yellows with coral, chocolate, ivory and tan, with lots of color pops thrown into the mix.  I encourage brides to not get hung up on a 2 or 3 color palette…as a graphic designer, I LOVE color–especially bright color–and the key to playing with lots of color is to keep the big elements fairly neutral (linens, dresses, majority of the floral elements, etc) and throw in the brighter colors in smaller details (paper goods, ribbons, accent flowers, accessories, etc.).

My friends know I hate matchy-matchy, but with a wedding party as huge as ours, I knew that picking a neutral bridesmaid dress would look best.  It was the perfect canvas for my friends to express their own styles…each bridesmaid layered her own accessories, chose a sweater in any color, and picked shoes of any style or heel height as long as it was in the neutral or metallic color family.  I just adore how the sweaters photographed and added colorful dimension and individualism to my lovely bridal party!

My dear family friend (who’s more like an aunt) Bobbie did all the gorgeous flowers.  She was my sounding board for all of my creative ideas and whims, and the creations she made for my special day were unbelievably perfect.  She created those amazing bridesmaid bouquet vases, and sewed the altar skirt with layers of delicious fabrics, and so much more!  She was my wedding angel and crafting confidant.  I love that she lives in San Diego and I live in SF and we basically created my wedding day via email!  It was SO fun for me!

The hair accessories were created by my bridesmaid Amanda, and were a huge focal point for my (and my bridesmaid’s and flower girl’s) outfit.  My hair clip was gorgeous, and my sweater corsage made the outfit!  I am so thankful to be surrounded by such talented friends and family…this wedding was definitely a labor of love!

This is the awesome nature-inspired wedding of Natalie & Brian in Grass Valley, CA.

We wanted everything to be as simple and natural as possible. We chose the Empire Mine as our location because it is the most beautiful natural setting with acres of huge trees. It was a place that we liked to visit whenever we were in town visiting my parents, and we especially like that it is a place that we will be able to go back to year after year. To keep things simple we didn’t have a big bridal party, just our three siblings, and they could wear whatever they wanted. Since the park was so pretty, we didn’t have to do too much in terms of decorating. I just love the color yellow, so that was incorporated into the flowers. The Jewish chuppah that we stood under for the ceremony was made of curly willow branches to blend into the surroundings, and the top was crocheted by a close family member. The weather was perfect, everyone we love was there, and everyone had a great time and danced all night. It was just the most beautiful day.

The pair took a style that we’ve featured on SMP before and infused it with their own flair. A little bit of country chic, a little bit of warmth and backyard style, a little bit of laid back elegance. And I love every bit of it.

I love that they brought a peach hue into the yellow and gray palette. It really warms up the look, brings a little bit of feminine charm to the wedding.  And it’s that juxtaposition of the charm and style that is really getting to me with this one! Love, love, love.

The bride’s oldest sister is a huge fan of Amy Atlas’s candy stations, so we did our best to design one that was inspired by her perfect creations.  The flower girls wore little, yellow ballerina tutus, walking down the aisle to twinkle, twinkle little star.

After dinner the guests went back outside to the original ceremony area where we moved the chuppah to cover their wedding cake, added ottomans for seating, space heaters and cocktail tables.  We had their band, toasts, a fantastic hora! and the best part of the night…. a fire pit and s’mores station.

With an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception, the design team really managed to create an event that captured the romance of the venue…the bride’s family home in Austin, Texas. Here are a few more details from Courtney…

We moved the guests to the garage area for cocktail hour.  We literally moved their entire set of dining room and living room  furniture to the garage area and used this as our lounge seating.  Guests were served lemon drop martinis, margaritas on the rocks and there was plenty of Coors Light available (groom’s favorite) with yellow koozies to match.  The bride’s youngest sister set a black and white damask backdrop over one of the garage doors for a fun backdrop used for photos that guests could take themselves.

Guests were then lead inside the home for dinner.  We used their living room and dining room to seat 180 guests!  The 20 guests in the wedding party sat on the patio at a long dramatic head-table.  All florals were created with a mix of yellow flowers and blooming branches.

I mean come on. How stinking cute is this? The yellow (I am thinking J Crew) dresses paired with the khaki suits. The perfect flowers designed by who else but Petal Pushers in Austin. The adorable bride and groom. It’s so lovable, it’s almost hard to believe! Oh and it looks really, really fun. Can’t beat that!

Here are a few details from Courtney of Caplan Miller Events…

This is a wedding that I did in March in Austin, Texas at the bride’s parent’s home on Lake Travis. We first started designing this wedding by covering the entire back yard with a custom riser to cover their existing landscaping.  We used white carpet, white staging and white dancefloor.  Our ceremony took place on this platform and was then turned for the band, dancing and dessert later in the evening.

We used an iron chuppah that was covered in Texas smilax and yellow florals by LBB vendor, Petal Pushers – she created moss letters with their initials, hanging lanterns and shepherd hooks to line our aisle.  Bridesmaids were in yellow JCrew dresses.

The guests were greeted with fresh lemonade before being ushered to their seats.  The bride used a local Grammy award winner as her pianist (Floyd Domino) for ceremony and cocktail hour music.

This wedding, photographed by Sweet Monday,  is just that…and so much more. It’s designed to a “T” with each detail filled with charm and style and a defined elegance that seems to infuse every element.

And all of those ridiculously awesome paper goods? They were crafted by one of our all time favorite letterpress houses…Smock!! This wedding really couldn’t get much better.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Sweet Monday Photography for sending us this adorable wedding. I completely love everything about it…from the perfect color palette to the sweet details. The white vases and vessels add an element of modern to an otherwise traditional look that is so fitting. Perfection defined!

From the lovely Lyndsey and April of Sweet Monday Photography…The wedding was held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. We loved Ami’s yellow and blue palette and her vintage but still very modern look.  Carissa at JL Designs & Events did an amazing job with the flowers and decor for this wedding and really brought Ami’s vision to life. Caroline Cheng of Serenity Events did the coordination.

Based in the Bay Area, Nicole Sillapere is one of those florist whose talents completely blow my mind. Hanging perfect calla lilies as garland, draping a chandelier with lemons and perfect greenery, making a sea of white chairs look like something out of a fairytale, with pops of yellow adding a little bit of charm. Every detail that she gets her hands on is both innovative and ridiculously gorgeous. For me, Nicole is the definition of genius.

Ring a ding ding (did I just say that…I am seriously in need of some new words)!! Aren’t these details completely perfect! The candies are whimsical and fun, graphic and perfectly hued. And the cake, oh the cake. It’s absolutely yummy. I honestly can’t get enough of this wedding so I’ve done a few more features that are on the way in just a bit!

Here are some fun details from the bride, Ashley, who just happens to be one of the best designers I’ve seen in a long time!

Wow this is so exciting! I looked at Style Me Pretty everyday when I was planning my wedding (which I did in 4 months!) My dress and shoes are JCrew, as is the Maid of Honor’s dress (she’s my sister, Jill). The event was held at The Wickliffe House on Ashley Ave and our ceremony was performed by my father. The florist for the large arrangements and bouquets was Louise as Charleston Flower Market. My mother did all the flowers in the small vases on each of the individual tables and a few of the other arrangements, as well as the yellow “candy bar” and the anniversary time capsule. It was a 12:30 wedding on a Sunday, so we had sort of brunchy food – mimosas, a raw bar, mini blts, deviled eggs, shrimp and grits, and so forth. Jim Smeal (a little black book member) designed the incredible cake.

So, when you put today’s couple together with the fabulousness that is Our Labor of Love, the result is well…perfection.
