From Alanna and Dawn of eph*ra event design… Elegant, fluffy winter snow in all its charm was the inspiration for this shoot. Our vision was of winter whites with layered textures, both old and new, with lots of charm and warmth. We used lots of unexpected and unique details such as little birds, pine cones under cloches, porcelain artichokes, tiny bud vases and vintage decanters. Guest gifts were handed out in small burlap pouches wrapped with satin ribbon and tied with a hemp string, each with a note of thanks. The rustic and funky Berkeley Church in downtown Toronto provided the perfect backdrop for this romantic theme. With its stained glass windows and hardwood floors, it gave a warm and special atmosphere for our shoot.

The stationery mixed vintage glam with a bit of rustic charm. The invitation had an apothecary-inspired label featuring a mix of textured monochromatic papers and was embellished with crystal and pearls. It was nestled in a cream silk box accented with a vintage-look brooch, feathers, twill tape and a tiny mother of pearl button. Coordinating items included a matching petal-style program fan, embellished seating cards and table numbers, as well as a one-of-a-kind sweet table sign. The seating cards were set out using hand-cut tags hung on tiny white clothespins in white wooden frames among candle-lit vintage mason jars. The guest tables were made all the more special with a white quilted overlay, bronze chargers topped with white china, taupe linen and a large organic pearl branch napkin ring. A small bottle of mints for after the meal accompanied each setting. The centerpieces circled by a grapevine wreath were a combination of silver tapered candle holders, white hydrangeas in tall white vases with adorable birds and owls all around. We created several other points of interest in the space: a luxurious cake table, a throw table and a signing area. The cake table was full of white cakes and cupcakes to tantalize the palate. A beautiful white rose cake with a gray satin ribbon and adorable miniature white cupcakes under cloches were surrounded with candles. The flowers were a romantic mix of honeymoon tulips, ranunculus, chrysanthemums, baby’s breath, Veronica caya, hydrangeas and feathers for added interest. The bride’s bouquet was neatly tied with burlap and satin. A fun throw table with hand-stamped bags of rice and a large birdcage was lit with handmade tear drop strings of white lights.

From Dragonflight Photography… This snowy shoot took place after the first snowfall of 2012 in Langley, British Columbia, which is just outside of Vancouver. Flowers, and table design were by A Perfect Proposal, and the stationery was by Dragonflight Photography & Design. The bride’s head piece was from La Vie en Rose, and her faux fur jacket was from Melanie Lyne Boutique. The bracelet was from Shine Jewels Fort Langley. The theme was “vintage meets modern snow.”

From Birgit of Birgit Hart Fotografie… Bettina & Martin’s wedding took place in Kirchberg in October and was surprisingly a real winter wedding. Temperatures fell from +20 C to 0 and we got 20 cm of fresh snow over night! The civil wedding took place in Kirchberg, followed by a get-together evening at Kasplatzl-Alm. Doreen Winking and I made a fun video of ourselves in the first snow. The ceremony took place on the next day at the Maierl Alm and was held by Gunter Mehler. Doreen hand-picked the staff for this wedding, and everything was perfect just as usual. She even found — last minute — Andreas Erber, who played the zither during the ceremony. He was even able to learn a special song for the couple within 15 minutes!

I think it’s a special task to decorate an alpine hut (although “hut” is not really appropriate for Maierl Alm – but I couldn’t find another word), but Julia Hörl did a great job as always! The stationery was designed by Karina Buddensiek, who did a great job as well. If anyone is wondering about the out-of-focus picture in this blog post: on purpose! Karina designed a lovely invitation card with an old, black and white, blurry self-portrait of the couple, and I’ve created a similar one for the thank-you card. The chalets of the Maierl Alm are absolutely marvelous by the way — and right by the ski slopes of Kitzbühel! And I’ve got to mention our hotel in Kirchberg: the opening of Rosengarten was just recently and Doreen and I were thrilled with our suites and with the breakfast! Two more names to mention: DJ Basti Stummer and percussionist Martina Prutscher did a great job as well!

From Melissa Schollaert Photography…The week of Lydia & Ben’s Wedding, there was a freak snow & ice storm in Atlanta.  The city was completely shut down all week while a thick blanket of ice & snow covered the city.  But, towards the end of the week the ice started melting, but we were lucky enough to have some snow left which really added to this festive winter wedding.  

The wedding was held at the very modern High Museum of Art.  The bride was so elegant in her Priscilla of Boston gown with delicate fabric flowers and a fur shawl to complete her look.  The bridesmaids wore stunning teal, floor length gowns while the gentlemen donned their own tux’s for the occasion.  The decor was beautiful and included florals in whites and icy blue’s to complement the modern design of the museum.

From Royce Sihlis Photography…Michael and Erin might just be the most lovable couple we’ve ever worked with. After photographing their wedding this past summer we found out that they hadn’t had the budget to get engagement photos taken. We’ve gotten to know them quite well since their wedding day and we were thrilled to discover their true vintage style. Yuriko from Vintage Origami lent us a variety of amazing vintage pieces and we took the beautiful couple out on a snowy day to Sun Peaks to give them the photos they never had.

With Royce being a ski photographer turned wedding photographer (seasonally), this shoot was an opportunity to put him back in his natural habitat. In fact, what made this shoot so amazing was that everyone was completely natural. Michael wore the clothes he already had in his closet and Erin finished off her look with the same pearl earrings from her Grandmother that she wore on her wedding day. Nothing quite makes a perfect engagement shoot like true love and the genuine personality showing through the photographs.

From Orange Girl Photographs … Mike loves to ski and Leah loves to tag along so choosing Lake Louise for their romantic wintery winter was the perfect choice for Leah and Mike. Leah and Mike love to travel and on a recent trip to Las Vegas Leah found a pair of emerald green shoes that she loved. She tried them on and then put them back deciding they were too expensive. Mike returned later in the day to buy the shoes for Leah because he could tell how much she loved them. The shoes were part of the inspiration for their wedding colours. Lake Louise is also known for it’s beautiful green colour which could be seen peeking out from below the ice.

Leah and Mike were given a particularly beautiful snowy winter day that made the perfect backdrop for photographs. Inside Chateau Lake Louise lots and lots of candles and warm amber lighting helped created a cozy feeling inside for their ceremony and reception.

In the couple’s speech they spoke about the fact that they had been together for six years before getting married and that made their wedding special to them because everyone in the room had known them as a couple for years. One of the things that they love to do with their close friends is attend music festivals every year together so it was fitting that the band was friends with the couple and was a highlight of their evening.

From Eventity Inc…Eventity Inc is a wedding coordinating company based in San Diego CA. We along with the photographer Bryan N. Miller (also based in San Diego) are super excited to share with you a winter love styled photo shoot we completed. Our idea for this styled shoot was to make it a different type of “Winter Themed.” We selected a color palette that is a break from the traditional white and silver and combined elements that reminded us of the holiday season like ornaments, bark vase for the centerpiece and a hot cocoa bar! This photo shoot is extra special to the team because the models are one of Eventity’s owners and coordinator, Monica (me) and her boyfriend of 5 years.

We wanted the day to be a celebration of family and friends. We were getting married for the first time in our 40’s and have both lost many dear people along the way. We wanted to remember and include them in the day in some way. We had the names of those who had passed that were important to us and our guests included in the wedding programs. Photographs were a priority for us, since they are truly a lasting record of the day. We took the recommendation of a good friend who used Ulysses Photography for their wedding. Jenni and Ulysses were nothing short of amazing with their artist eye for detail, and we are absolutely delighted with the results.

We wanted understated elegance with a vintage feel for the day and achieved this with various details. The tuxes from Men’s Warehouse, Sophia Tolli Phyllis gown from the Bridal Gallery in Salem, Oregon, the long hand-beaded veil, ceremony shoes by Grace, fun blue Caparros Ulysses reception shoes, and amazing hair and makeup done by Rosemarie Pomilla owner of N.Y. Prostyle and her team, helped provide the timeless feel of the day. We had the ceremony in the late afternoon at the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception located on campus of my alma mater, The College of Mount Saint Vincent, because we love that when you enter the Chapel and the campus it feels like you are stepping back in time. We choose the Old Tappan Manor for our reception because it was like going to a ball in the ballroom of a private mansion in days gone by. They only have one event at a time, the renovated space is gorgeous, and the food was wonderful.

We wanted things we love as part of our day. The groom loves music and wanted the ceremony to be the most special part of the day. We had Pipe Major Jonathan Henken play bagpipes before and after the ceremony outside of the Chapel. For the ceremony we had singer Stephanie Budelman and The Devonshire Players string quartet. I love dragonflies, bubbles, fall leaves and various shades of blue. We worked these things into the programs, party favors, wedding party flowers, seating charts, napkins, table linens, invitations, wedding bands, and ribbons woven into baskets for the programs, directions and bubbles.
