One part Grecian goddess, one part completely chic, I love that they add a bit of glamor to your wedding look without going over the top. That top one by Kenneth Cole with the T strap is like all of my shoe dreams come true and I just happened to spot it on Project Runway the other day so I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one who loves it wholeheartedly. But the best part? All but one of these beauties are under $100. The heel with the rosette is actually $24.00!! Style and affordability. Can’t beat that.

from Tali … The second I saw my Sue Wong feather dress I knew it was my wedding dress. It was designed for her “Alice in Wonderland” collection and it was certainly very me! I decided on a second wedding dress, a shorter Carmen Marc Valvo dress that would be terrific for our waltz to Josh Groban’s “So She Dances,” a dress that turned out to be perfect for our carefully choreographed dips and all. Joe found his garden suit at J.Crew.

We had the best time walking around downtown Savannah with Allison Reisz and her husband Rich, our amazing photographers.

At our reception, we wanted to keep everything light and simple and we loved the idea of peach roses, white hydrangeas and white baby orchids on white textured tablecloths. Morgan added clear votives of varying heights and parasols that were in true southern style. We decided on candied apples as favors (a Savannah favorite) and had the most delicious red velvet, lemon, strawberry, and vanilla cupcakes as our wedding cake. Our place settings and table names were designed by Jennifer Borkowski based on David Yurman collections.

For dinner we had stations placed in little nooks throughout the garden with carved prime rib, lemon tarragon salmon, wild mushroom risotto, green bean casserole, garlic steamed vegetables, and cranberry salad.

The rest of the evening was spent dancing to our amazing jazz band as the sun set on our wonderful Savannah garden wedding!

From the bride, Alicia…

When Shez and I got engaged we started talking about what kind of wedding we wanted to create.  We wanted: a good measure of lovey-doveyness, delish food, booze, silliness and a blending of traditions (English and American/Jewish).  We didn’t want: uncomfortable clothes, pomp and circumstance or feeling obliged to do “wedding things” that didn’t feel authentic.

Given how spread out everyone in our lives are (guests came from England, Australia, California, Texas, New York etc.), we knew anywhere we got married would be a long journey for most.  So we decided to have the wedding someplace special to us, and that would make for a fun vacation for all and decided on Cape Cod, where I’ve spent part of the summer most of my life.  Though we were worried that Icelandic volcano eruptions might keep us from our wedding site (we live in London), Shez joked that I was sewing enough bunting that we would be able to swing across the Atlantic if the need arose.

We incorporated some secular Jewish traditions (in particular writing our own ketubah, which was a deeply meaningful part of the process, especially as it was illustrated by our dear friend Hannah) and included several nods to English weddings in the ceremony.  The more we talked about it, the more we started to describe our wedding festivities as a sort of “New English village fete.” We had bunting, freshly baked cakes made by guests, rosettes instead of escort cards, and fun lawn games of both English (croquet) and American (horseshoes) varieties.  Many of my friends in London I met through crafting so we had a veritable army of incredible helpers sewing and gluing and baking and grilling and tying and hanging things all week.  It was unbelievable to see everyone in action.  My mom, sister and I share a love for vintage knick knacks and my mom hunted down vintage glass bottles and 50’s tablecloths, while I sewed table flags with adorable fabric from Sew Mama Sew.

One of the best bits of wedding planning was working with lovely artists and independent businesspeople.  Our friend Paul, an illustrator, painter and graphic designer (www.drawings.me.uk) illustrated the invitations (printed by our friend Kate on her gocco), created the website, drew the menus and program covers and wrote out every name on for the rosettes.  We worked with the talented artisans at Bario Neal for our rings, and at Blue in New York for my dress.  In fact, nearly everything came from small businesses or artists that we respected (many of whom I found on etsy or wedding blogs), this wedding was not exactly “budget” but we both felt great that the money went to people who were passionate about creating beautiful things ethically.

Though the weather was less than perfect on the day of the wedding I felt so surrounded by overwhelming joy and love, from Shez, from our families (especially my sister who was incredible throughout), and from our ridiculously hard working and good-natured friends.

Oh and just a quick sidenote. We’ve kept the palette neutral, as we are working hard on a “pops of color” post…great hued shoes, clutches and hair accessories for girls looking for a little splash of fabulous. To come in the next few weeks (so excited). But for now, we’re back to the task at hand. The perfect wedding flat…

Row I: I spotted these little gems when I was in Banana Republic the other day and I have to say, they are WAY cuter in person. They have this really soft, metallic color that is as elegant as it is chic. The next pair by Jeffrey Campbell are comfy AND cute. Love that. And I am mildly obsessed with the next sequened pair, also by Jeffrey Campell. So. freaking. cool.

Row II: The AMAZING bronze leather thongs are by Prada and although they carry a slightly less-than-Prada price, they just might be the perfect splurge. And for that bohemian chic style, I heart these gold wrap sandals by Hollywould. Another ankle wrap, and equally stunning shoe, would be this one by Etiopia.

Row III: These dramatic shoes have a very slight heel which will give you that extra inch without killing your feet. Plus, they are super cute in a leather metallic and would look pretty under just about any dress. Particularly the really flowy ones.  And speaking of heels, the next one by Chinese Laundry is a kitten heel and is total elegance. Love it. And lastly, I couldn’t help but throw in these amazing sandals. They are a little bit boho, a little bit Gladiator and a lot cuteness.

Those are just the tip of the iceberg really. If you are looking for a fabulous flat…J. Crew is the reigning queen of the ballet flat. Together with Anthropologie, Banana and Nordstrom you are sure to find the perfect fit. And if you still haven’t found the right shoe, one oh-so-smart reader reminded us that you can add a shoe clip, like these from B. Poetic,  to give your simple but comfortable pair a facelift.

Here are a few more ballet flats that we are looooooving.

Row 1: The glittery, sparkly, all together girly flat is SO me. The first pair, by Juicy Couture, is total yumminess. The velvet, the jewels, the shape. All together yummy. Love these from Urban Outfitters and I love the price tag ($38) even better. And these black and metallic flats by Anthropologie…perfection for the sophisticated bride.

Row 2: I am completely obsessed with the detailing on this first shoe by J. Crew. The velvet flower is absolutely gorgeous and would add such a pretty little something-something to your feet fashions. Same goes for these perfect gold ones from Anthropolgie. And this little pink piece of perfection, well, I love you.

Oh and before I wind down on our shoe round-up, I couldn’t resist featuring a few from my latest obsession. The Gladiator. Perfect, perfect, perfect for the boho chic bride.

Probably my favorite collective row out of the whole bunch, these gladiator flats are so super cool under a pretty wedding dress. Definitely takes a certain style of dress and a certain style of bride, but if you can pull it off, I think that you are really awesome. First ones found at Nordstrom, second ones at Loeffler Randal and third by Nordstrom.

WHEW! I am having a major shoe hangover. Switching gears to an impossibly pretty real wedding coming up next!

Today’s Round-Up covers one of my most coveted fashion accessories: Shoes. But, the shoes featured here today aren’t just any kind shoes; they are very special shoes for THE most special day. There are so many things to consider with your wedding shoes—comfort, price, color, heel height, etc. So, we picked a few of our favorites of the season that are sure to accomplish at least one, if not all, of your wedding-day fashion necessities.

For those of you that are planning to totally splurge on your wedding-day fashion attire, this next post is just for you. We got the crème de la crème in shoe designers all in styles perfect for the big day.

Row I: These heels by Brian Atwood are completely and utterly delicious in subtle metallic linen, perfect for the bride who wants a hint of couture, without the fuss. There is one name that is synonymous with “special shoes”—Christian Louboutin. While these stunning beauties will cost you a pretty penny, this style found on Bluefly is a bit easier to digest, pricewise. Definitely not for the fashion faint-hearted, there is no doubt you will be a show stopper on your big day wearing this on-trend slingback by Kate Spade.

Row II: Craving an avant-garde update to the classic pump? Look no further than this Badgley Mischka D’Osay complete with a little pillow of heaven on the vamp. This peep-toe by none other than Oscar de la Renta is completely lavish look and perfectly adorned to wear on the wedding day. Or go for some glam in perfectly distressed pewter wearing these stilettos by Pura Lopez.

Row III: A few gems and a little satin all pulled together in a sturdy classic shape, it’s no surprise this shoe by Badgley Mischka is a bestseller. This slingback by Sergio Rossi is no frills, just glamour—ensuring a lot of wear after the big day. Stand out in this pair of jeweled heels by Bourne. The cutout T-strap is super flattering to boot.

Adrienne and Justin were married in October. The afternoon Catholic ceremony was held in Waterbury, Vemont. The reception followed at the historic Round Barn Farm in Waitsfield.

As guests arrived, little bells were handed out to the guests to use in Adrienne and Justin’s send-off (or so they thought!).  Much to the couple’s surprise, and thanks to her clever mom, their first kiss was rewarded by the sound of tinkling bells throughout the church. Adrienne says it’s a sound she will always remember with great joy! So cute!

Now, on to the reception … and this is where the details get truly amazing …

from Adrienne:  As a child, I was always really into the idea of an enchanted forest and “The Secret Garden”.  When our wedding planning started, I immediately knew that I wanted the reception to have a woodsy feel and the barn was an ideal setting. When the guests first entered the barn there was a big old wagon that presented us with the perfect opportunity to wow them.  I had our florists cover the wagon  with moss and grass that they had grown in their studio. Our escort “cards” were stuck into the grass to look like wooden flower markers. In addition to the floral arrangements that were made, the florists actually dug up tree saplings from the woods and fastened them to the beams.  They also hung lanterns that I purchased at Ikea onto the branches. It really created the perfect first impression and set the rustic, foresty tone I had dreamed of …

I wanted the centerpieces to look as if they were just growing out of tree stumps. The tall centerpieces consisted of white orchids mixed with manzanita branches and curly willow set into a vase wrapped with birch bark and topped with moss. The shorter centerpieces had the same birch wrapped vases with moss and ferns, roses, lisianthus, and ranunculus. We had candles in mosaic glass throughout the room and on the tables.  My mother tirelessly worked on the table numbers which consisted of wooden stands that she covered with moss and small birds nests.  The actual numbers were spray-painted and stuck into the nests.  We also included mini mushrooms that I had purchased online.  To top off the table settings, my mother found gold bird salt and pepper shakers which were absolutely adorable.  For table runners we purchased light sage brocade curtains that we had found online (on sale – love it!) and my grandmother cut and sewed them into runners.   We echoed the foresty feel in our wedding cake as well which was made to look like birch bark with flowers and ferns and two finches.  And again, our candy bar was covered with moss and signs made to look like flower markers, and mini mushrooms...

We’ve shown you some pretty great candy buffets on Style Me Pretty … but this is one of the best we’ve seen! If you’re going to do candy … this is the way to do it!

To back-track just a bit … Adrienne’s family was full of surprises!

from Adrienne … Right before the cocktail hour ended, my family decided to spring a few more surprises on us.  I am originally from Germany but moved to the States when I was a child.  Aside from my parents and brother 90% of our immediate family still lives in Germany.  I was fortunate that a good number of my family was able to come to the weddig.  And with them they brought some German traditions that I had no idea we were going to partake in.  First up was the tradition of cutting a log. The log represents the first obstacle that the couple must overcome in their marriage.  The couple then demonstrates their ability to work together and overcome the obstacle by sawing through the log.  The next tradition was cutting out a big heart drawn on a sheet which also had pictures of us all over it.  Cutting out the heart and then having the groom carry the bride through the opening of the sheet is the German equivalent to carrying the bride over the threshold.  Lastly, we released a cluster of balloons into the air with blessings and good wishes from our family and friends.
