If the DIY projects that we put together for you weren’t enough to inspire, this next feature will most definitely get the wedding excitement brewing. We are so very delighted to introduce the new collection of wedding stationery from the fabulous Mr. Boddington’s Studio in NYC. Everything about this quirky little design studio is charming… their invitations, their website, even their name is catchy. But of course it’s their gorgeous paper creations that really have me smiling. They’re a little cheeky, a little vintage, and a lot beautiful. These are so good you might want to consider designing your wedding around your invitation.

Mr. Boddington’s also has a fabulous new line up of engagement/rehearsal dinner, bridal showers, and thank you notes… all just as sweet and chic as the wedding invitations.

A little bit about the collection from owner, Rebecca Schmidt Ruebensaal…

Through the past year, Mr. Boddington traveled around the globe collecting all sorts of musings to inspire his new collection: vintage wedding invitations from Bombay, typography from Shanghai, preppy fabrics from sailing camps in New England, pine needles from Eastern European forests… and the list goes on! He also bent an ear towards what the most fashionable brides chatted about in connection with their wedding correspondence… it appeared that they were chasing not only smart paper designs but those that may save them some pennies.

Wedding, engagement, rehearsal dinner, bridal shower invitations, save-the-dates and thank you notes are offered in both letterpress and flat matte printing. All letterpress is printed on one hundred percent cotton paper (tree-free), and the flat-matte using rich, slightly saturated color palettes. Envelope liners are hand-cut and tailored to each piece of correspondence.

It’s not easy to do playful and elegant… and it’s even harder to do it really well, but Mr. Boddington’s Studio has it down to an art. All of their work is sophisticated and fun… the silhouettes, the envelope liners, the fabulous fonts, I love every square inch of these charming little pieces.

DIY Wedding from Martha Andrews

Abby is in Texas this week, so I have the pleasure of bringing you today’s wedding, an eclectic, diy event full of fabulous details. Brought to us by the always amazing Blooms by Martha Andrews, this wedding is a colorful nod to 1940’s vintage style. Plus, the bride is a graphic designer, sooo we get the extra treat of some really fabulous invitations, programs, and stationery. Just look at the inside of the envelope… love. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

We wanted to have an eclectic vintage outdoor wedding. When we visited Newcastle Wedding Gardens for the first time, I just knew it was the perfect place for our wedding; the setting is one of incredible natural beauty mixed with old world charm. And I just loved the idea of having our reception in a BARN! Tory and I decided to do photos before the ceremony, and I’m so glad we did. It was really special to have that first moment between just the two of us.

My bouquet was adorned with a brooch that was my great grandmother’s. We had a basket of vintage hankies that I had collected from eBay near the guestbook; an attached sign invited guests to take one for their happy tears.

Giveaway by Sarah Drake!

We have a REALLY fun, totally fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants giveaway for you guys. Sarah Drake, one of my favorite invitation designers, is looking for one lucky bride to help her with a brand new invitation design…called, “love letters.”

Before we unveil the invitation, I wanted to share some of the history behind this invitation. The inspiration with a little movie called Harold and Maude.

This 1971 movie is my favorite love story: unconventional, a little dark, and deeply sweet. It inspired our personalized stationery, Love Notes, back in 2006. Then, we decided to take it a bit further, taking our love of all things vintage, the uniqueness of written correspondence, vintage stamp collections, and unabashed declarations of love and combined them into a new kind of invitation.

Okay, now for the absolutely gorgeous, completely appropriate new design which will use letterpress printing charcoal ink on imported Italian paper …

Believe it or not, this is exactly what wedding invitations used to be. Sweet, personal, handwritten notes that left guests feeling utterly touched and hugely special. So here is the deal.

Sarah is asking that you guys send in your own personalized wording…something that captures your personality, style and the sentiment of your wedding. You can either leave a comment right here OR if you feel more comfortable, you can email your wording to Sarah at info{at}sarahdrakedesign{dot}com.

She’ll then choose 1 lucky reader to receive a set of 100 invitations with printed envelopes, 100 response cards with envelopes AND 100 thank you notes. Here’s the catch. You MUST have your wording in by the end of day tomorrow. That’s 6PM on Friday the 31st of July. Elum Fall Letterpress Wedding Invitation

The AMAZING team at Elum just sent me a preview of one of their new Fall inspired letterpress invitations. And I got so excited, I did a quick little inspiration board to showcase the design in all it’s glory…

Elum is one of my all time favorite invitation design houses. Their letterpress invitations are simply spectacular, with each impression done by hand in house so that every piece is perfection. I actually asked elum to do my business cards because their letterpress is so gorgeous (I’ll show those in a later post). Here is an up close of their latest design…

You guys know what big fans of Wiley Valentine we are here on SMP. I love their clean, design savvy approach to wedding design…offering brides with many different budgets a little piece of perfection. So, when they told me that they running a pretty awesome promotion, I jumped at the chance to tell you guys!

Inspiration by Mika78

I am so beyond happy to have Mimi Woo of the ridiculously great invitation studio, Mika 78 on SMP today. She is a complete genius when it comes to beautiful, fresh design work…kind of making me wish that I could get married all over again, just so that I could order one of her invitations!

For my last post, I thought it might be fun to share some of the inspiration boards behind Mika78’s most requested designs. This first board inspired the In Love design. I wanted to capture the feeling of vintage Parisian glamour, but done with a modern twist.

I also wanted to create mood with just typography and nothing more… I love how the calligraphic flourishes just dance all over the page. Calligraphy… gotta love it!

This second board helped to inspire the design The Quote. I fell in love with the touching quote from Corelli’s Mandolin; his words on love are so truthful, inspiring, and beautiful… I just had to design a wedding invitation around it!

Wedding Invitations by Satsuma Press

I have been meaning to share this amazing new designer with you for some time, so needless to say, I am really excited about today’s first post. Lynn Russell, the designer and creative brain behind Satsuma Press, is pure talent. Her work reflects a modern sensibility, paired with a soft, elegant aesthetic that is all about the pretty.

Lynn features 11 beautiful designs, each one totally customizable with fresh colors and lovely typefaces so that you can completely make it your own. Her new line was photographed by the AMAZING Max Wanger and in a word, it’s perfect.

Giveaway: Wedding Invitations by A Day in May Designs

I first fell in love with the genius that is A Day in May Design when I lived in San Francisco years ago. There is just something so refreshing in the simplicity of their designs and the quality of the letterpress. Every piece seems like a little work of art, something that you could frame and hang among your favorite photographs.

So, when they emailed me the details from their latest invitation line, I obviously…swooned.With 11 different designs in their new Signature Collection, there is definitely something that you will fall in love with, from Wintry snowflakes to vintage scrolls and perfect seashells. I love every bit of it and know you will too!

From the girls at A Day in May…We designed this style because we noticed more and more couples were doing “destination” weddings. We wanted to create a style that allowed them to highlight their location. However, we soon realized that this style had an even wider appeal: whether a couple was planning a wedding in an exotic locale or a wedding in their own backyard, this style became a simple way to highlight a Place, capital “P”. It is a little smaller in size than a traditional invitation, so it has a wonderful, whimsical feel to it as well.

Here are some details about this invitation from the girls at A Day in May… This “style” is a folder sealed with a stamp-like sticker, that encloses the invitation and additional cards within. Couples can choose from our wide array of stamp selections or have us design a completely new stamp. It is in our SIGNATURE line so it is more budget-friendly than a custom piece. However, it lends itself very easily to custom touches: stamp design, paper color, ink color, font choice are all up to the couple.

Sonia Davis is going to be big, really big. Mark my words. Her designs are so thoughtful, so wonderfully elegant with touches of whimsy and pure joy… a style that will make you fall instantly in love. Sonia is new to our Little Black Book and we are SO thrilled to show off her gorgeous collection!

I looove the turquoise and red palette of the invitation above, the sweet vintage style of the scroll paired with the modern patterns and typefaces. So, so chic.

Sonia will design your entire wedding package from the save the date up, including fun, coordinating packaging for favors and such. I am so in love with the work that Sonia Davis sent me….with it’s clean, fuss free designs and whimsical, utterly perfect details!

This is perhaps my favorite design. With the soft, elegant color palette paired against the chic, vintage design work. And, the adorable little bird just ties everything together so beautifully.

Each design that Sonia crafts is custom, so she can really style it to suit your own personalities…plus, she’ll come up with little accoutrement and favors, like these, that bring the whole package to an entirely new level!

This next set, by the girls at Wiley Valentine, is all about that perfect rustic charm that we love to feature on SMP…a combination of horse shoes, florals and vintage swirls…

The pinks, the delicate balance of vintage inspired typefaces with the feminine floral detailing and victorian swirls is pure gorgeousness. Love. Love. Love.

This set just reminds me of our shabby chic inspiration board contest…it would look so pretty with a wedding style just like this one.
