From Cynthia Martyn…

Mimmo Galati from mimmo+naz was our wonderful photographer.  Mimmo has an amazing eye, he totally got the look we were going for, and I think the images are magical.

The backdrop for the shoot was one of my fave venues in the city.  It is called the Fermenting Cellar, part of the historical Distillery District, an abandoned liquor distillery which has since been restored and is filled with art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and charming boutiques. This raw industrial space is used to create some of the most beautiful events in the city.  The juxtaposition between the industrial backdrop and pretty tablescapes just seems to work so well.

Special thanks also goes to Carla Naylor, Faces By Carla, who designed our makeup and hair and gave our bride a lovely glow for the shoot.

Not only is Cynthia Martyn the genius behind this beautiful shoot she also happens to be quite the DIY-er. When I asked Cynthia where she found the PERFECT hairpiece for the model I was expecting that it was one of her killer vintage shop finds… but when she told me she made it, I begged her for more details. Cynthia was kind enough to send along the DIY…

RED ROSE HAIR ACCESSORY

Materials needed:

1 Silk Flower  (I used a rose found at my local Michael’s Craft Store $8.99)
Silver Butterfly Barrette (found at a local drug store etc. $2.99 for a package of 6)
Hot Glue Gun
Lightweight fishing wire
Sewing Needle

1. Prepare your flower by snipping off the stem as close to the base of the flower as possible (without cutting too close that the petals start separating)

2. Heat up a glue gun, and ensure you have high temperature glue sticks available (works best for fabric applications).

3. Apply a small amount of hot glue to the tip of a silver butterfly barrette (the end which you pinch together to open the barrette).

4. Immediately apply the base of the flower to the barrette and hold for thirty seconds so that the flower sets in the glue.

5. Once the glue dries, thread some fishing wire through a needle, and stitch through the centre of the flower, looping through the butterfly barrette 2-3 times to ensure that the flower stays secure.

6. After setting overnight to completely dry, affix to your hair, and look fetching on your big day!

After drooling for a while, I decided my favorite is in gallery 1, picture #1. Simple and sleek, (what i’m trying to do at our wedding) the black and white contrast makes such a modern pop! We are doing a 3 tiered square cake and the hint of the crystals even coordinates with the lone crystal I placed on the tag on our invites! Thank you wedding main st!
