When capturing your very special day, wedding filmmakers have many tools in their proverbial shed! One of the increasingly popular formats right now is what’s known as a Super8 style. Here’s what Steve from Glass Eye Video had to say on his blog recently …

I’ve been so excited to make this post and announce that we have entered the world of Super 8 film! This has been a long time coming as I wanted to make sure I chose the right equipment and processing lab to handle my productions. After being inspired by the giants of the industry, I knew this was something I had to get into as well. The look, the feel, the raw emotion that is pulled from the film is something that simply cannot be imitated and is truly breathtaking. I filmed my first wedding a couple weeks ago and the bride was completely blown away by it.

More from Steve at Glass Eye Video … “Without a doubt, one of the greatest weddings I’ve had the honor of being a part of was Christy and Tom’s. St. Xavier Church was just the beginning that night. The reception at Music Hall was incredibly unique and insanely gorgeous, thanks to Brigid Horne-Nestor of i-do! Weddings and Events! Not one, but TWO live bands kept the guests entertained throughout the evening, including my favorite local band, The Rusty Griswolds. I’ve never seen a dance floor come alive like the one that night, it was AMAZING! I had the great pleasure of working along side Tine Hofmann, who was there snapping beautiful pictures one after the other! This was the first wedding I filmed in Super 8 and it was the perfect wedding to cover in this beautiful medium. It’s truly amazing how the film brings a whole new life to the images in a way that simply cannot be achieved with any other medium. I had the film processed in widescreen format to give it a modern twist and to help it flow with the HD footage that I shot that day as well. I hope you enjoy their teaser! Our caterer passed cocktails and appetizers before the ceremony, and then had a variety of pastas as entrees, as well as a dessert buffet.Of course we had to have s’mores, since my father had recently landscaped his backyard, adding a firepit that begged to be christened. He outdid himself on the lighting, stringing every tier of the deck with tiny white lights. We added plenty of lanterns and torches as well.

Rich was living in Brooklyn when we met, and we were engaged at the Brooklyn Bridge, so Kristen Folzenlogen of LetterHeads did a brilliant sketch to bring that element to your invitations. I gave Courtenay Lambert full reign with the florals-I knew I wanted succulents and golds and lots of interesting texture. She blew me away with what she came up with! She even surprised me with a tiny image of my late sister nestled into my gorgeous bouquet.

It was a small, casual gathering at my parents’ home which has a great woodsy setting. We had a very short time frame(about three months!) in which to plan so I relied on my friend Alison Wenstrup of Aviva events; www.aviva-events.com  to help me cope with wedding stuff in the middle of what was a very busy part of wedding season for my own business. I of course am very fortunate to call some of  the city’s top vendors my friends, so I did have a home court advantage! My vision was to have a groovy dinner party that just happened to have a wedding at the beginning of it; no wedding cake, no d.j.,no “forced” toasts, no garter or bouquet toss.

Nancy recruited three other Little Black Book members to help her pull this incredible party together including the talent behind the photographs above TM Photography, the fabulous team at The Bridal Studio and the ridiculously lovely flowers by Courtenay Lambert.

I am the owner of brideface, based in Cincinnati. With over 12 years experience spanning runway, print, film, (and my favorite!); bridal, I have been honored to be part of over 350 weddings. Here are some of my best tips for looking gorgeous on your wedding day…

1. Be as individual with your beauty look as you intend to be with the look of the rest of your wedding. Let your gown and the style of your event be your guide-a formal ball gown dictates a different makeup look than a cotton eyelet sundress. Cull inspiration from fashion magazines and don’t be afraid to try something quite different from your normal look; after all you don’t normally wear a wedding dress and updo, right?
 
2. Probably one of your biggest concerns is longevity; will your makeup stay on through tears and humidity?  Be sure to choose good quality, high pigmented products; professional products are designed to be durable for hours under hot lights and they require much less product to get amazing coverage. I also use a makeup sealant, Model in a Bottle that I can’t recommend highly enough! You will only need to carry your lip color (try a stain for more holding power) and some blotting papers to touch up; resist the urge to pile powder on throughout the day.

Tips for teary moments: A cotton handkerchief is not only charming, it is kinder to your makeup than a tissue; it won’t leave lint in your lashes. Dab, don’t rub! (this bears repeating for those of you who don’t wear makeup in real life)
 
3. Try not to think of wedding makeup as “heavier” or “darker” than everyday makeup. There is that fine line in bridal makeup, because you want to look incredible on film but also soft and pretty in real life, not like you stepped off a broadway stage. Photography has a way of flattening out features and I combat this by using extra definition on the eyes-individual false lashes bring out the shape of the eye and give it a lively wide open look. They also do wonders to boost your confidence; I have seen the most jittery brides begin breathing normally again once they have those babies on! I also use subtle contouring and highlighting to bring out the shape of the face-to pop cheekbones, or to slightly slim a face. I personally like to use as little coverage on the skin as possible-if a client has absolutely gorgeous skin, I have been known to just use a hint of tinted moisturizer for a glow. Heavy foundation wears poorly and does not capture the light like a more bare complexion-better to spot conceal problem areas than to mask the whole face.It is also more modern than a matte, flat finish.
