From the bride… The venue is stunning with everything you need in one place: the chapel, accommodations for all guests in a gorgeous Georgian house and beautiful grounds.  Many of the table decorations were done by me, and the flowers were done by my mother-in-law. The flower vases were jam jar pots and tin pots. The wedding was the best day of our lives and if we could afford it, we’d do it every year. Babington House is the perfect wedding venue, and we partied long into the morning, as they have no time limit. Which was what we wanted.

From the bride and groom… We just had time to sit down and organize our wedding photos. A lot of hard work went into the celebration! Though we’re from the Bay Area, Napa is a far way out for most of our family, and coming from Chinese and Italian backgrounds, great food was important to us. We decided that we wanted to spend money on the perfect “destination” location with amazing cuisine — The Carneros Inn. Much of everything else we did was DIY. We didn’t have a wedding planner, and we handmade all of our 120 of our wedding favors (a collection of our favorite recipes), menus, programs, table runners, etc.  Since we had 9 months to plan, Christine shopped off-season for bridesmaids and flower girl dresses. (The total for all five dresses? Less than $200!) The wedding was really everything we wanted it to be — beautiful and meaningful but relaxed and a great way for our friends and family to have an incredibly special weekend with us.

From Fiona of Mademoiselle Fiona Wedding Photography… Jeremy is American and Carolina is Portuguese.  They met in Paris and now live in London where they work as architects. Their wedding took place in the Azores archipelago, which is a little paradise tucked away in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, far off the West coast of Portugal.  The wedding was on the island of São Miguel, which is known as “The Green Island” and boasts amazing unspoiled nature and some small towns full of history and character.  This all made for a beautiful backdrop to their very organic, simple, refreshing wedding.

I wanted to capture the beautiful surroundings and some elements from the bride’s cultural background that made this wedding so exotic yet personal  — such as the lush nature, the Portugese azulejos (typical blue and white tiles), the iconic blue hortensia/hydrangea flowers, the volcanic stone church, the old stone mill, etc… I also wanted to capture the bride’s laid-back style and bubbly personality.  On the morning of the wedding, we improvised a relaxed portrait session in the streets of her hometown. The religious ceremony took place in an old Portuguese church, and the cocktail hour in the beautiful cloisters next to it.

From the Bride…Michael and I met 3 and half years ago while we were both working at the Park Hyatt in Melbourne. From the beginning we knew that we had found “the one.” We quickly became inseparable and our life together very quickly kicked off. Our friends and family have laughed that our life seems to be one major event after the other. Within several years we had gotten a dog, travelled the world multiple times, purchased a house, had a baby and became engaged, but I guess when you know you’re onto a good thing why wait?!

When Michael and I got engaged at the Islington Hotel in Hobart we knew right away that it is where we would be married. The hotel was perfectly “us” and more importantly it offered us everything we wanted for our wedding. It was small, it was in an amazing location and it was all ours for the entire day and night of our wedding. We knew very early on that we wanted our wedding to be small and intimate so that we were able to fully enjoy the company of our closest friends and family who were all making the trip to Hobart to be with us.

Michael and I share a great love of all things food so it goes without saying that one of the most important parts of our wedding day would be the food. We worked with the chef to create our dream menu, something which we would dream of finding in a restaurant, we worked with the sommelier to match wines to each of the courses and we also created custom “His” & “Hers” cocktails to enjoy with canapés in the afternoon. For our wedding favors we made chocolate and caramel fudge, peanut brittle and chocolate freckles which we packaged up in little midnight snack packs. As an ode to food we also spent months collecting vintage forks which we bent by hand to use as our place card holders.

We were so blessed to have our wonderful friend Jeremy with us who worked tirelessly the entire day to ensure that everything was perfect. Unfortunately when the flowers arrived it was apparent that the florist and I were on different wave lengths but rather than letting me know about this Jeremy took control of the situation and took 30 sad little arrangements and created 10 amazing ones. He also did all the amazing styling for our tables which included vintage books, hessian table runners and my great grandmothers vintage silverware.

Our day went off without a hitch and I can honestly say it was exactly what I had always dreamed off. We managed to hire the most incredibly talented people to work with on the day but none more so than our amazing photographer Jonathan Wherrett who not only captured our day so perfectly but managed to fit into a close knit group of friends and family as though we had known him forever. Having Jonathan capture our wedding day was the best decision Michael and I made and we’re reminded of this every time we look at our amazing photos.

From the Bride…We first met in a student co-op house in college, but really got to know each other several years later, when we became roommates in a warehouse in San Francisco.  We dated for almost 7 years before getting married, and lived together for the last three of those years.  We’d done some international traveling together already, spent holidays with each other’s families, and decided to start a family — by the time we actually got married our lives were already intertwined and we had no doubts about going forward together.

The general feel of our wedding was fresh, bright and outdoors.  We brainstormed dress-up themes for a while but ultimately just encouraged people to dress flamboyantly if they were so inclined, but overall be comfortable and casual.  An unspoken theme for us was that the wedding be very personal and very “us.”  We spent a lot of time choosing which aspects of traditional weddings we wanted to maintain and which we would pass on, and what parts of alternative culture, such as Taiwanese/Chinese traditions and pagan rituals, we would like to include.

It was very important to us that as many guests as possible be able to stay on-site for the weekend, having lots of time to relax, meet people and be together.  We had a vision that people could park their car on Friday and not need it again until Sunday. Dawn Ranch was a great venue for this, both for the venue itself and for the convenient hotels and restaurants within walking distance. We also liked the value Dawn Ranch places on organic and local food and wine. In general, its balance of elegance and rustic charm, comfort and nature, professionalism and environmental values, was a great fit for us.

We were recommended to Alison by a trusted friend and felt comfortable with her right away when we met her.  She clearly could relate to our values and lifestyle choices, and felt like someone we had a lot in common with.  We liked that she was easy to talk to and laugh with, but also took her responsibilities as our photographer very seriously.

We started off thinking 120 guests would be ideal, and our final count ended up over 170!  As we went, we saw that adding guests was not that much more incrementally in cost, and we kept thinking of more people we would like to be part of the celebration.  We saw the event as not only a way for us to include people we care about, but a way for our family and community to connect with each other.  It ended up being something of a college reunion!

From Micah & Megan Photographers…Becky and Brian wanted something very unique and special for their destination wedding in Hudson Valley, New York. Both Becky and Brian are in the advertising world of New York City so they had a keen eye for the style and design of the day. The thought that they put into each and every detail was unbelievable. They got ready for the wedding in an old rustic farmhouse. The wedding took place at the Apple Barn Farm, in Germantown, New York. Gingham and Lace surrounded the yellow and white flowers. The guests arrived to the farm in a school bus.  There was a campfire and farm animals surrounded the property. There was a specialty drink created by Becky and Brian called B+Bee’s Knees, served in antique jars with red and white striped straws.

On top of putting so much thought into the details of the wedding, these two have the most amazing hearts. The way these two love each other is indescribable. Sometimes it is explosive. Sometimes it is sweet, and intimate. It is always completely, unconditionally, love. During Brian’s best man’s speech, he told a story of how he asked Brian why and how his relationship with Becky was so amazing. It was their communication. They sit down together every night at the dinner table, no television, no distractions, and talk. Just talk, about everything and anything. That is the secret to their amazing relationship. This says so much about the commitment between these two and the ways that they put everything else aside for their love. Photographing this wedding was amazing. We feel so grateful to have been able to capture the emotion story of Becky and Brian’s day through our cameras.

From the Bride…After seven years together, Dominic proposed while we were on holiday in Malaysia. Soon after, we began discussing where the wedding should take place. With friends and family all over Europe and the US, we wanted to make sure as many people as possible could celebrate with us. We decided to have the wedding at my parent’s house in San Luis Obispo with a second reception two months later in Dominic’s home town in Germany. My parents live in a custom Victorian style home, which served as a really beautiful backdrop for our wedding. My mom, dad, and brother spent countless hours turning the space behind their house, which was a blank canvas just months before, into a lovely reception area and altar.

We very much wanted to incorporate German, British, and American style and tradition into the wedding. For the ceremony, Dominic’s family performed songs in German, I read a Shakespeare sonnet, and everyone sang “Amazing Grace”. We drank German beer, English gin, and California wine. Our guests enjoyed Ritter Sport, flying saucers, and personalised M&M’s among others in the candy buffet.  Decorations included old American box cameras, vintage English playing cards, and a 1920s German spelling tablet served as our welcome sign. I absolutely love art deco design; so much of our wedding inspiration was taken from the period. We searched for vintage pieces all over, from flea markets in Vienna to car boot sales in London with many items purchased on eBay and Etsy. I had such an amazing time designing and creating the decorations and table settings for the wedding. So much so that I was inspired to set up my own etsy shop, Deco Revivalist.

The day itself was romantic, surreal, tearful, and lots of fun. We were very lucky that so many people travelled so far to be there for our wedding. What a pleasure it is to marry the one you love, accompanied by those who remind you that it shows.

From the Bride:

We got married on June 4th this year and had our reception at the very pretty Anchor Inn, in “Jane Austen country”, Hampshire in England, where we live. We fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it. The staff were helpful and friendly from day one. The country pub offered charm and a laid back atmosphere which is exactly what James and I were looking for. It was perfect. The outside space also sold us as we imagined how wonderful it would be if the weather was good… As it happens it was perfect!

Peonies are my favourite and I was lucky they were in season. I wanted the flowers to be relaxed and pretty, they suited the venue perfectly. Charlotte is my mum and has been a florist for over 20 years I left the flowers completely to her as I trust her judgement completely. She did an amazing job and everyone complimented on how beautiful they were. My bouquet was stunning!
