Rancho Santa Fe is nestled in the hills of San Diego where the air is crisp and the sun is warm.  The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe is one of the most alluring boutique hotels in the world. It’s old world guest cottages are as charming and beautiful as this wedding’s summertime theme. Catherine from CBS Life Stylist produced this romantic wedding where the ceremony took place under the giant historic pepper tree located on the front lawn.  Tam from Isari Flower Studio designed the event with an amorous setting of flowers ranging from garden roses, hydrangeas, tulips, freesias with dahlias and other unexpected orchids, cobra lilies to name a few. Two enormous floral arrangements bordered the altar and was accompanied with her signature flower confetti heart-shaped design that encircled our beautiful couple.

The charm is carried through to dinner with elegant trumpeted silver stands topped with garden confetti of loosely arranged summer flowers. These romantic centerpieces sat on crisp white linens and napkins, and complimented by quaint Chinese lanterns overhead all provided by Concept Events. Gorgeous hand-painted table numbers were designed by Lusana from a Queen’s Scribe. The exuberant dinner music by Pat Fitzpatrick turned to a dance party immediately post feast where lounge furniture from Lounge Appeal was abundant.  All the emotion and details was captured by the photography duo of Studio Duva and videography was provided by Bell Video. Both the Bride and Groom are so much in love and it reflects the joyous and romantic occasion.

I am in love with your invitation set for Molly and Carl. My colors are pink and I am doing a romantic 18th century feel. You see I waited 30 years to find my soulmate we got engaged Christmas eve this past year unfortunely we live in Michigan and my fiance lost his job just shortly after we got engaged. I am trying my hardest to make our wedding day what we both have dreamed of but because of our situtation we have to make some cutbacks. However, having one of your seating charts greet my guests as they walk in would make my day all that more special! thank you!!

These are the most elegant options for a seating chart. I am the Mom of 2 brides , marrying within 11 weeks of each other and I am running out of time and money. But rather than let that deter the so-so-so- happy couple … they chose to embrace the day!

Little Black Book member, Heather Dwight of Calluna Events in Boulder, Colorado coordinated Joanne & Jake’s  wedding. She’s written a great piece on her blog about ‘a day in the life of’ a wedding planner based upon Jake & Joanne’s wedding!  The point being … no matter how well organized you are, “stuff” happens. Think of a wedding coordinator as a fireman wearing many hats who puts out lots of little fires! Heather, you guys did a fantastic job!!

Jenna Walker Photographers … Jenna & Katie … are sisters, who each, in their own rights, are mega-talented photographers. They capture the emotions, the passions … and the FUN … that make this day, of all days, AMAZING!

Joanne & Jake are the type of people you can’t help but admire. They are the creative types. Adventurers. Authentic, no holds barred. All with the sort of humility that many aspire to, but few attain. Joanne is a well-traveled, sharp-shooting architect. Jake – the Editor-in-Chief of Skiing Magazine: see also witty journalist guised as a ski bum. Put the two together, give them a map – and you’ve got a story worth listening to. Sit down. Grab a beer. They will make you laugh. Given this combination, it was with deep respect that the task of shooting their wedding would become. They know photography. They know clean lines and soft light and composition. But more than that, they understand what is real, what is true, what is them.

A family full of writers makes for a series of toasts worthy of publishing. Everyone had a go at the mic – even the littlest lady of the family put in her two cents. As a finale to a series of 4 or 5 speeches, Jake toasted Joanne in a laugh-till-you-cry speech.

We LOVE crystals and glitz and so it stands to reason that we would LOVE this wedding …

When it came time to planning their wedding, Jaymie and Carl sought the assistance of Lisa at  The Wedding Planner. Lisa shared many of the cost-saving aspects of this beautiful wedding …

Although their wedding had a fairly small budget – we really focused on putting the money where it would have the greatest impact. Both the ceremony & reception took place at a lovely restaurant called Teatro in Calgary. By choosing a Sunday I was able to negotiate a lower minimum for the evening thus making a venue that would normally have been out of the reach of their budget a possibility. The couple both work as web designers in Chicago and wanted to infuse a mixture of traditional glamour and funky fashion with some elements that really illustrated “them” as a couple.

The restaurant has these beautiful antique iron doors imported from Paris. I had to re-orient the room a bit so that they could stand between them for their wedding vows. The bride incorporated a brooch that had belonged to her grandmother on her bouquet. I had the bride and groom seated at a table by themselves and the groomsmen and bridesmaids were seated at gorgeous damask banquettes which flanked the sweetheart table. The favors were a simple black box filled with chocolate covered almonds (in fun metallic colors) which the bride had decked out with rhinestone buttons & feathers. Another cost saving measure was ordering gorgeous platinum colored raw silk from one of my suppliers and then having one of the bride’s family members hem the edges so we had gorgeous runners down the middle of each long table. Many of the guest tables seated 24 people. I always love an alternative to the traditional sea of round tables. The bronze & crystal trees filled the room in lieu of flowers, which were supplemented with 150 clear votives – so inexpensive but really create both ambiance and sparkle. Two tall bronze & crystal trees flanked the couple during the ceremony and then the smaller trees adorned all the tables during the reception (2-3 per table). The programs, menus, place cards and table numbers were all created by the bride. The cake incorporated the same silver ribbon that wrapped the bouquets and the cake set was the set used by Jaymie’s parents at their wedding (the wedding day was their anniversary).

So, let’s get right to it! I wanted to start the contest with one of my personal favs…these adorable table numbers housed in glass hurricane vases and adorned with the cutest, rustic touches!

Materials

Glass Apothecary and Bell Jars (one for each table – for the bell jars I also purchased metal plates to go under them)
Floral Foam
River Rocks
Moss
Bamboo skewers
Gold (or silver) address numbers
Black Spray Paint
Hot glue gun and glue
Sandpaper
Additional Adornments (ex. Feather butterflies, old keys, peacock feathers)

Instructions

1. Hot glue a bamboo skewer to the back of each address number. Wait until dry.
2. Spray paint numbers and skewers black. Wait until dry. Apply second coat if necessary.
3. Use sandpaper to “antique” the numbers, allowing some of the metal to show through.
4. Cut a piece of floral foam small enough that it will fit in the apothecary jar of choice with a 1″ clearance when placing in the opening of the jar.
5. Use the hot glue gun to attach river rocks to cover the foam on the sides and part of the top.
6. Use the hot glue gun to fill in the cracks between the river rocks with moss.
7. Cover the top of the foam with moss.
8. Place a small bed of moss in the bottom of the jar. This moss will cover the bottom of the foam so that it is not visible from beneath.
9. Place the rock and moss covered foam in the bottom of the jar.
10. Cut the bamboo skewer attached to the address number to the proper height and insert into the floral foam through the moss on top.
11. Attach an additional adornment (such as a feather butterfly) to the base.
12. If desired, on the day of the wedding (or using silk), place a stem of orchids into the floral foam adjacent to the number.
