It’s going to be a good start to our work week, because I can’t remember the last country wedding I have seen done so chicly. This romantic Nashville wedding was planned and designed by Cedarwood Weddings, and it is yet another knock out from the team. Three adjectives that describe the day: rustic, romantic, music

The table settings were gorgeous! We loved the burlap and bling theme, it was the perfect mix of rustic country and romantic glamour. The table signs represented concert posters from the many shows Bill and I have seen together and fit in with our theme really well. The candlelit tables at sunset were really amazing and guests constantly remarked about how beautiful everything was.

The first reveal when we saw each other was incredible. I cried as I approached Bill in the front lawn but he did not get emotional until we moved to the Cedarwood porch. It was very touching and reminded me of how we support each other in our relationship. A close second was when we started rapping to the band’s performance of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Chris Weaver (band’s lead singer) said we were the best rapping bride and groom he’s ever heard!

Our best advice to brides and grooms to be would be to try to accomplish something every week so tasks do not pile up at the end. Be organized because there are so many moving parts you don’t want to forget anything. Don’t hesitate to take ideas from the favorite weddings you’ve attended – your friends will be honored that you incorporated part of their wedding into your own!

Lakeside Pittsburgh Wedding from JPC Event Group + Michaelwill Photography

JPC Event Group blew it out of the water at this waterside Pittsburgh wedding. They provided a phenomenal cake and mouth-watering nosh, which perfectly complimented this nautical bride and groom’s style. They put together a fabulous wedding that has us all looking forward toward warm summer weddings by the lake (even this winter-lovin’ blogger). Plus, Michaelwill Photography + Sarah Winkler Photography loaded up a gallery with so many images, it’ll take you all weekend to get your fill!

Jon and I met in college through mutual friends at an annual beach themed party. The night after we met Jon called me to go on a date but I got so nervous on the phone that I turned him down. When I told my roommate that I had said “no” to going on a date she immediately convinced me that it was a bad decision and that I had to change my mind. I think her words were “Why would you say no? It’s just a date…it’s not like you’re going to marry the guy!” I sent Jon a message apologizing for not being available that night and suggested we get together another night that week. He luckily took me up on my counter offer. It was because of my roommate’s convincing that I went on that first date – little did we all know that five years later Jon and I would be getting married!

My family has been spending our summers on Conneaut Lake for three generations now and it has always been a special place to me – there is just something about the laid back lifestyle we live while staying at our lakehouse that I love – the air is fresh, the days are spent with friends on the lake and there is always time for a cocktail while watching the sunset. Jon knew how much I loved it there and even decided that it would be the perfect location to propose (which it was!).

My mom is an assistant to an interior decorator and just has impeccable taste in decorating our house– so I knew that I would never find a location that was as unique and had as much meaning to me – so having the wedding at our lake house was an easy decision. The house has a classic shabby chic cottage feel to it with splashes of color all over the house. Since the scenery at the lake is naturally so beautiful and colorful– we wanted the outside tenting to be open and airy with a “shabby chic but elegant” feel to it. I chose soft blooms with mostly hydrangeas and large open garden roses for floral arrangement with crisp navy blue and white table linens. We complimented the shabby chic feeling with lace accents throughout many other wedding details including my dress and veil, our invitations, bouquets, vases on the tables and even our cake.

We wanted our guests to feel like we thought about them in the planning process as much as we thought about ourselves. Be it from the transportation we offered (a shuttle bus, valet parking and water taxis) or the food we picked (five courses so everyone could taste a little of everything!), we wanted each of our guests to enjoy the day just as much as we did.

Even though we had almost 230 people at our wedding, we personalized a menu at each person’s seat so that they could feel a little personal touch when they sat down for dinner. Also, since most of our guests came from out of town – we wanted people to have the experience of “the lake” so we offered mini boat cruises around the lake after dinner so that our guests could get a tour of Conneaut Lake and see the tents and wedding from the water. All of the décor, flowers and food were impeccable and better than I could have ever imagined thanks to my amazing vendors but I think that our guests really enjoyed the little touches of “us” too!

It was very important to us that we try to incorporate things about the two of us into our wedding. We did this through a number of ways – our tables were all named after our favorite places at Virginia Tech (where we met), the appetizers were all of Jon’s favorite foods, and Jamie loves to drink wine, so we had a wine bar with wines that we could tell stories about that involved the two of us. Each of the details had a purpose behind it from adding a silk rose from Jamie’s Mom’s wedding gown to her bouquet to offering classic Pittsburgh (where the Jamie is from) and Baltimore (where Jon is from) beers after dinner and having a cigar bar, which reminds us of Jamie’s Dad.

Harmony, North Carolina Wedding by Red White and Green Photography

First up in our day of pretty is a gorgeous North Carolina affair captured by Red White and Green Photography and second shooter Kasey Loftin. Not only is this rustic stunner filled to the brim with charming details (including beautiful blooms by Wild Flowers, mason jars and some insanely gorgeous bridesmaid gowns), but each and every breathtaking moment was inspired by a set of lovely invitations and paper goods crafted by Days Gone Design. From the Bride… I followed your site religiously while planning our vintage, shabby chic style wedding. Our story started when my husband, Joel, and I met at work in 2008 at an online marketing company, Yodle. An HR dream come true. My husband proposed on April Fools day with a blueberry ring pop. I said, “YES!”, he said “April Fools!” and then after a couple minutes of laughing, he got down on one knee, gave me the real proposal and ring.

One of our great finds in the wedding planning process was Nikki from Days Gone Design. Nikki’s shabby chic designs were the inspiration for our wedding. Our stationary was one of my favorite things from our wedding planning. Our save the dates, invitations, envelopes, thank you notes, favors and website were flawless in design and really set the mood for the atmosphere the guests could expect upon arrival to the wedding. Nikki also helped us design our favors for the ladies. We gave hankies for the ladies and chocolate cigars to the gents. Nikki designed the stationary the handkerchiefs were tied to. This was a DIY project my bridesmaids and I pulled together. I ordered the handkerchiefs from Etsy as well. I found a vendor on there, Nathaniel23, and ordered 100 blue handkerchiefs. The stationary had holes punched on each side, which allowed my ladies and I to string a ribbon through the paper and tightly secure a neatly folded handkerchief to it. We also strung a small circle which said “Thank You” through the ribbon to add an extra touch. The chocolate cigars were ordered from Chocolate Impressions, they custom designed a label and special thank you message for our guests. Nikki designed our signs which read, “Hankies for the Ladies” and “Cigars for the Gents” which set on our favor table.

Almost all of our décor was found on Etsy and embodied vintage/shabby chic designs. We were also able to incorporate many family heirlooms, including gallon and half gallon blue mason jars found in the bride’s great grandmother’s basement. Darlene from Wildflowers of Taylorsville did an amazing job filling the jars with beautiful hydrangeas and freesias. The rustic wooden arbor used for the ceremony was filled with draping flowers including hydrangeas and roses. Hydrangeas were a common theme used from the invitations to the centerpieces. My dress was a from the WTOO Brides collection of Watters. I choose the dress because of its vintage charm and attention to detail. The groom and groomsmen all wore suits from Joseph A. Banks, suspenders and light blue button up shirts which matched the bridesmaids dresses perfectly. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Jasmine B2 designs. My great uncle and groom’s grandfather married us.

Can I tell you what also has my heart? This lovely shabby chic celebration by Shan Cunningham Photography. Hello beyond adorable flower girl! And that cake? Well it has me craving its sweetness for breakfast so much so I might just indulge. Can you blame me? From Shan Cunningham Photography…Rachele and JD were married at the beautiful Jefferson Street Mansion in Benicia, CA. Rachele did an amazing job with all of the details from her wedding!

When I met Rachele several months ago (before the Giants won the World Series and when my belly was big and round) I knew that I was going to love her. She was so sweet and reminded me of a Southern Girl from Texas! She told me her colors and I immediately went back to one of my favorite childhood (and adulthood) movies Steel Magnolias and the line where Julia Roberts says, “my colors are blush and bashful” and her mom (Sally Fields) chimes in “her colors are Pink and Pink” with the most Southern accent you can find. Anyways, if you know me, you know I love Steel Magnolias and I absolutely love all things from the South (I grew up in Texas).

Pittsburgh Engagement Session from Craig Photography + JPC Event

I’m sure by now, you’ve realized that we have totally gone off the diving board into the world of complete wedding obsession. We can’t help it. Mention the words veil, tablescape, or groom, and we’re done for. But did you also know that we absolutely love to see a great engagement session as well? Take this Pittsburgh sesh from Craig Photography. The couple brought in JPC Event Group to create a totally inspiring and elaborate atmosphere to their love shoot, and we are so loving every little detail all the way down to the yummy raspberries. From Craig Photography … This couple, Gina and Brian, chose my absolute most favorite space to photograph in Pittsburgh – Mellon Park. It’s very “Garden of Eden meets Mid-Summer Night’s Dream.” There is amazing architecture and all the flowers, foliage and even an herb garden are maintained by volunteers.

For this session I was inspired to call Jody Wimer of JPC Event group, a friend of mine, to help with setting up a more elaborate session within my favorite space. Jody took charge of the entire look and designed and set up three separate scenes/sets for us to photograph in. For inspiration, I simply told her words to describe what I was looking for: romance, color, vintage, ethereal, soft and feminine.

As you can see from the photos, she did a terrific job. She set up a shabby chic set – the table and chairs with sage cloth and vintage overlay, a vintage set – her great-grandmother’s ironing board with colorful flower arrangements and select homemade treats including delicious frangipane mini-pies, and a modern look with a handmade baby’s breath garland and accents and hanging fabric.

The San Gabriel House Wedding by Sweet Sunday Events

I’ve developed a serious cake crush on the frosted beauty in this Georgetown wedding. The perfect confectionary centerpiece to go along with this sweetly styled day by Sweet Sunday Events. It is almost too pretty to eat…almost! Actually, I’m quite partial to the whole event! It is just one of those charming, intimate, down-home style affairs that are so full of character and a whole lot of love. From Sweet Sunday Events… Aside from being utterly beautiful, the reason I loved working with Haley to create such a picture perfect wedding is simple. There were no rules or restrictions. Haley supplied me with photos, an overall vision of her wedding and two simple key phrases: Shabby-chic and Natural (two words I just love!). And then we just ran with it.

Shabby-Chic: The tables were dressed with an ivory gauze material, gathered in the center and decked out with mismatched votives. Natural: In mint julep cups and tarnished metal pitchers, decorative kale, garden roses, succulents, kangaroo paw, brunia, purple majesty and foliage became the hub and source of many ooooos and ahhhhhs.

It was simply gorgeous, the kind of wedding that makes you cringe with envy and cheer with glee at the exact same time. Which doesn’t come as any surprise considering the photographer behind the lens was Nathan Russell who has a knack for taking some of the greatest shots ever (For real… Just check out his blog for yourself!). This just might be my favorite wedding yet. Congrats you two!

From the Bride… Austin and I have always liked doing things a little different than the “norm”. From the start, our wedding was going to be eclectic but with vintage and sentimental flare. I’ve seen weddings that are just the same ‘ole, same ‘ole so to go with the non-mass produced wedding attitude we came up with a fantastic wedding! Several of the items that had a part in our wedding were either in my parents wedding, Bibles from long ago family members or family traditions. We kept the guest list intimate, so we figured the actual wedding should be the same way. We had our wedding in Georgetown, Texas at a beautiful venue at The San Gabriel House, also where Austin’s family stayed for the weekend, gorgeous flowers and rentals provided by Sweet Sunday Events and incredible photography by Nathan Russell Photography. Our to-die-for cakes were done by Paige’s Bakehouse, groovy live music provided by Karan Chavis and my dress was from Balina Bridal in Austin, Texas. Thanks to our awesome vendors, we had a stunning wedding!

Washington Wedding by diana marie photography

Ok folks, get cozy and settle in for a bit – this wedding is the perfect pick me up for any afternoon lull. I’ve been day dreaming about this barn beauty by diana marie photography since the moment I laid eyes on it, and now it’s your turn to do the same. It’s like counting sheep, but counting the lovely details instead …amazing short dress, gorgeous barn venue complete with chandelier, bow ties, sassy shoes, DIY touches, adorable flower girls…see what I mean, you slowly drift off into dream land after gazing at the loveliness. We went with sort of a rustic, shabby chic theme. Scott is from Spokane, WA which is way more country and laid back than Seattle, where I’m from. We both wanted a casual country-side feel. So we drank out of mason jars and ate BBQ off vintage China Scott and I collected over the summer. Our close friend Kyle was our officiant. Scott’s younger brother Ben did a beautiful guitar solo while I walked down the aisle. It was perfect!

We chose Wine & Roses Country Estate because it was away from the city and so charming! We used their beautiful lawn for our ceremony and the three-story barn for our reception. Inside the barn is a glittering chandelier! The “Wild West” style bar with tall iron stools was so perfect! There was plenty of room downstairs for dancing and mingling. We put all the seating upstairs. There were two lofts~ one on each side overlooking the dancefloor. It was such a neat barn!

Overall a lot of things were handmade by either me or my family. I made the invitations, ring pillow, hair flowers for my bridesmaids and jr. bridesmaids, all the hair clip favors scattered on each table and the “Just Married” banner. It was very “me” since I think of myself as pretty crafty. I love to see brides put their own personality into their day and I think that’s what I did!

From the Bride… It was 4 years ago Thanksgiving that Kent and I met in Sayulita, Mexico. My best friend, Rachael, from growing up married Kent’s god brother. I had never heard of Sayulita before in my life and was excited to escape NYC over the holidays for a week of sun and fun with old friends. Little did I know that week would change my life so dramatically and wonderfully. Over the next few days we spent all our free time together swimming in the ocean, strolling on the beach, enjoying the local scene. Four years later we are headed back to the beautiful place where we first met. I couldn’t think of a better place to fall in love.

Since picking the spot for the wedding was sorted the day we met, now it was time for me to work out how we were going to do it. Luckily Rachael put me in touch with the wedding planner she used four years prior for her nuptials – Kerry Moehler. Kerry was a pleasure to work with and helped us choose the perfect venue for the big day – Don Pedro’s Palapa at the south end of town. We looked at a few places, but knew the Palapa was right for us since it sits atop this hill overlooking the ocean with panoramic views of the coast and town. Next was trying to decide on a design for the space. Kerry had just finished doing a wedding at the Palapa and had worked with Mishka Designs to turn the space into something so amazing. I scoured all the pictures – which were featured in Travel and Leisure magazine a few months ago – and was blown away. I knew right then I had to get Mishka on board in order to create the perfect setting for our big day.

And then the heavy internet searching day in and day out began. I would scour wedding websites, blogs and other favorite lifestyle blogs to find pictures of event space design, flowers and other ideas that stood out to me. It came to be that the pictures I sent all had a similar theme that Mishka eventually coined as Vintage Garden Chic. Perfection! I love the feel of a cozy backyard party with lots of candles, white lights, old benches, comfy pillows, a space that feels familiar and comfortable with a shabby chic spin to it. Or as Mishka told me in an email – “I’m totally seeing spring and garden and light and airy and romantic.” The one thing I told Mishka we must have as part of the design were mason jars to put candles in. I bought a ton of blue vintage mason jars on EBAY and brought them down with me to Sayulita. Mishka really surprised me with her design for the dance floor – hand painted mason jars hanging from the Palapa ceiling with Candles inside. It was truly magical and super special!

I had told Mishka and Kerry that we wanted to create a loungey feel outside of the Palapa where guests could go to enjoy the views, chat and relax. Mishka went above and beyond and came up with her awesome photo booth set up and then Jillian, our amazing photographer, leveraged Mishka’s set-up to get some of the most awesomely funny photo booth shots of the night.

Choosing my wedding dress proved to be an easy task. I ended up buying the first dress I tried on here in Portland. It was everything I had ever wanted in a wedding gown – delicate, elegant and feminine. Monique Lhuillier really knows how to make a wedding dress and after a few alterations, my lace Miranda gown fit like a glove. I paired it with a champagne satin sash and petal pink Badgely Mishka heels. I thought the lace would work really well in Mexico.
