From the Groom… We were about to send out Save The Date postcards and my fiancee Jamie (Savannah, GA native) asked me, “Can’t we do something more fun?  More ‘us?’” Now, as background, I happen to be a filmmaker who runs a boutique marketing and production company, JAMS.  So, when Jamie asked me if I could do something “creative” – I came up with the idea for a stop-motion music video.  Together, we came up with the story line.  I wrote a script.

The shoot took about six hours.  We edited it.  Then emailed it to our family and friends.  The response was incredibly positive.  It ignited great excitement for our big day and actually has led to couples from as far away as Dubai emailing us to help them make their Save the Date video. The interest and it being the best experience we’ve had as a couple led us to start our own Save the Date video company called Better Save The Date.

And, for me, the funniest thing about stop-motion animation is that it has the power to make a dorky Jewish guy like me actually look momentarily cool.

From Rising Moon Films…Mary had been a BIG Disney fan since she was a little girl, and it was always a dream of hers to visit Disney World one day. Her dream finally came true in 2008 when Paul took her to Disney World to celebrate her 26th birthday, and it was every bit as magical as she thought it would be as a child. After getting engaged a year later, and in the midst of planning their wedding, Mary stumbled upon a photo of a Disney bride being whisked away in a carriage. The lightbulb went off and she immediately began researching Disney as a possible wedding location, and shortly after called Paul with the news, ”I know where we can get married!” And the rest is history.

These Toronto natives were planning a destination wedding from far, far away, so Mary came up with the awesome idea of creating a Save-the-Date film to share with their invited guests as a way to get them excited for their super fantastic Disney destination wedding!  When she first contacted us with the idea, we were psyched! After speaking with Mary and Paul about their vision, we knew we wanted to come up with something outside the box. Mary and Paul are more fun, happy-go-lucky than romantic, lovey-dovey, so they wanted something that showcased their personalities more than just shots of them walking around, holding hands and smooching. Since more than half of their wedding guests had never been to Disney, they also wanted their film to show how fun their Disney wedding was going to be, and get their family and friends excited about spending time at the magical place that Mary had fallen in love with. In Mary’s own words, “we thought that it would be fun to maybe shoot a sort of engagement style, come to our Disney wedding because it’s going to be awesome, I mean, just look at this video!”

The story of our Save the Dates is quite simple. I love baking (especially cupcakes) and my fiance is a pastry chef at Nobu. We’re definitely foodie people and what better way of personalizing that than designing a fun std that represents us. After designing countless ideas, my fiance, Moony, casually mentioned a “nutritional facts” idea but with our wedding info instead and our idea was born. Cupcakes + Bride & Groom + Wedding Facts! Perfect. What a way to start off as a team, no?

Here’s how she did it!

I’d previously seen handkerchiefs and other bits of fabric printed on and really liked the idea of texture. I also wanted to create a keepsake. I ended up scouring ebay for about a month, collecting vintage handkerchiefs. In the meantime, I created a vintage-y layout using our silhouetted profiles. Once I collected enough handkerchiefs (and washed and ironed them, too!), I used the Yudu (which is apparently trying to be the next gocco) to hand screen the 165 handkerchiefs.

Once they were dry and ironed, I tied them to some cardstock I had custom printed on one side with a pair of lovebirds and on the other side with a little heart pattern I created for our wedding suite. The single men received a white handkerchief on the patterned background, while couples and women received patterned handkerchiefs on the lovebird side facing up. I hand-lined some kraft envelopes using paper from a scrapbooking tablet. I created a custom label that tied into the whole design and finally sent them all out.
