From McKenzie of McKenzie Miller Films… Becky and Brian’s wedding was filled to the brim with the most precious details. They left no creative aspect undone. From the custom soda bottles to the adorable silhouette, their wedding was perfect! Becky and Brian were married near Hudson, New York at the Apple Barn Farm. It was so beautiful! It’s always nice to escape the city every once in a while and this was no exception. Becky and Brian wrote the ceremony themselves and it was so sweet and heartfelt. I especially loved their vows. After their ceremony underneath a canopy of trees, everyone moved inside the barn for an evening of dancing, toasting and celebrating the love of Becky and Brian. The two are absolutely perfect for one another and it was evident through every piece of their wedding day.

From the Bride…I always dreamed of getting married in the backyard of the home I grew up in on Long Island and turning it into an enchanted, magical venue.  Unfortunately for me, my parents moved to Florida a few years ago and the home my dream-wedding destination was no longer available.  I had to find a warm, inviting and naturally beautiful setting and fortunately, I came across an estate on Gianna and Company’s web site.  The home was perfect and had everything I had ever dreamed of having for my wedding and more;  including the option of having our ceremony on a beautiful, sprawling lawn with the setting sun and Pacific Ocean as the backdrop.

The ceremony was very romantic – no matter where you looked there was something beautiful to take in: the side of the home is covered with ivy, while another wall is lined with dark, green Ficus trees. Our dinner reception was on a lovely travertine patio overlooking the moon lit ocean.  One of the biggest inspirations for my wedding was the movie, “Father of the Bride”.  This is one of my favorite movies, and I always felt the wedding scene was beyond charming.  I loved all the twinkle lights with the low flowers and candles, which I incorporated into the night’s design.

I have two favorite memories from my wedding.  The first one came during our first dance, when a gorgeous double-rainbow formed in the sky above us (my mother is convinced it was her parents looking down on us). My second favorite memory is everyone dancing together towards the end of the night, celebrating our love, waving lit sparklers in the night sky (we had the wait staff hand them out to the guests on the dance floor). I wanted everyone to dine under the stars surrounded by crystal chandeliers and Fellini lights above them. My dream wedding came true.

And just when you don’t think it can get any better, Enjet Media throws a breathtaking film in the mix making this Friday oh so fabulous…

From Jackie Wonders…Stacy is not only one of the sweetest and most beautiful brides I have ever worked with but she is also one of the most style-savvy.  She had a very specific vision for her wedding – a combination of modern meets rustic meets elegant meets whimsical – and we worked with all of her and Ozhan’s vendors to make that vision a reality.  The outcome was certainly so much more lovely than I could have ever imagined.

The Rancho Santa Fe estate that Stacy and Ozhan found definitely set the tone for the day.  Guests made their way to the house by the painted wooden signs that Stacy’s dad made for the occasion.  More signs helped guests find their way around the massive estate.  Guests were greeted with lemonade at a magnificent tree where we tied green and white ribbons creating an ombre effect for the ceremony backdrop.

Following the touching ceremony, guests entered the house into the courtyard for cocktail hour and relaxed around the fire pit and pool.  Dinner was served under the most gorgeous open air tent I have ever seen on a large soccer field behind the house.  Groupings of mason jars filled with candles and lanterns hanging from the tent produced a dreamy and elegant ambience.  The Floral Lab created the most lovely spread of lush, creamy arrangements along the entire length of the mahogany tables.  Stacy and her family made the burlap runners that brought in a fun bit of rustic texture, the lovely table numbers and escort cards and the hilarious mad-libs tucked into each napkins. A sweet fig was placed on each napkin for a little added yum-factor.

The food, the music, the joyful atmosphere was so amazing that guests didn’t stop partying until the wee hours of the morning!  As an extra fun treat, they found a delicious selection of cookies from Uncle Biff’s waiting for them on their way out.

From Celebrations of Joy!…Margaret & Patrick are a sweet caring and creative couple from LA who are both stars at DreamWorks Animation. They brought their creative talents from the big screen to the physical world of their wedding.  As fellow designers, we were ecstatic when we first met them as the ideas kept flying! They were truly committed to creating a unique, fun and happy wedding with an organic and green focus.

Using the blank canvas of the Commune Event Space of the fabulous ACE Hotel & Swim Club the vision grew from a photo Margaret had from a design magazine of organic shaggy hanging lanterns.  Knowing these could be recreated (with the help of friends and family) they became the center point of the room.  The organic desert theme was enhanced by floating sand blasted manzanita branches wrapped in lighting dancing above the tables.  Additional branches and succulent arrangements completed the décor.

The wedding had a strong green component as all the centerpieces were given as gifts to take home, the bottles holding the table numbers we recycled water bottles from the ACE, and all of the manzanita branches were re-purposed.

The DJ was a friend from Nickelodeon who rocked the house, an artsy vintage film of their engagement shoot looped all night on the Commune wall, and swimming in the private pool was a great side attraction for the kids and a few adults at the end of the evening!  The bride’s sister and the groom’s brother created a beautiful ceremony which they co-celebrated at a beautiful private estate in Palm Springs rented by the brother just for the ceremony. They met for the first time the week of the wedding!

From Browne Photography…This wedding was in Port. St. Joe Florida. Maclain had a vision of a sweet southern garden party flair which definitely came through in the pictures. Maclain wore her mother’s beautiful wedding dress that her mother wore when she married her father. From the decorations, to the vintage car, her antique wedding dress and the rocking band it was everything she ever dreamed of.

From the Bride…Between wearing my mother’s wedding gown to arriving at our reception in a 1931 Model A, belonging to Wade’s grandfather, vintage was the feeling we envisioned for the day.  After a decade, my mother’s lost gown resurfaced less than a year before we got engaged.  I worked with Shior Bridal in Atlanta to modernize her early 80′s wedding dress (complete with ruffled sleeves) into a simple, strapless gown.  The veil was borrowed from one of my bridesmaids, Liz, to complete my simple, classic look.

We renovated Wade’s grandparent’s 1950s home last summer and it is our pride and joy!  Our yard is surrounded with huge camellia trees thanks to his grandmother’s hard work over the years.  We both marvel at the beautiful blossoms each season and wanted to incorporate them into our wedding. We found an artist on Etsy to handcraft paper replicas of our favorite blooms. The flowers were used on the wedding cake and now bring life to our china cabinet.  Wade owns every size cast iron skillet you can imagine.  Among many cast iron specialties, he makes delicious cornbread.  We gave his dry cornbread mix and recipe, in small paper bags with labels designed by my sister, to our guests. Wade also gave cast iron skillets to each of his groomsmen as a “thank you” gift! Wade had one request, his mother’s sour cream pound cake served with Georgia peaches.  His Mom made a special trip to South Georgia last summer for perfectly ripe peaches and then spent the weekend before the wedding baking her pound cake to serve 200 people.  The groom’s cake table was arranged with tiered cake stands filled with her pound cake and a glass bowl of peaches to be served with each piece.

Family friends hosted our reception at their classic southern home overlooking St. Joseph’s Bay. Their front yard is a lush garden and was perfect for the “vintage garden party” theme we were hoping to accomplish. We hung bistro lights and mason jars filled with tea lights through the trees in the courtyard to create a romantic glow after sunset.  The table flowers, in shades of white and green, were loosely arranged in borrowed silver pitchers and derby cups. The food presentation was also an important part of our “classic southern with a twist” decor.  Our caterer set up five tapas stations throughout the lawn under lighted pagoda tents to encourage social grazing. Huge floral arrangements overflowing with hydrangeas, garden roses, and blossoming cherry branches were the centerpieces of each food tent. The “southern” tent included macaroni and cheese served in mini Chinese take out boxes!

After we said our vows and were pronounced husband and wife, the congregation was asked to stand and join together in saying The Lord’s Prayer. As we held hands and bowed our heads with our backs to the church, we heard the ancient wood floors creaking under the feet of our family and friends as they prayed in unison. We could hear the people and the church itself. We were overcome by emotion realizing, at that moment, that The Lord’s Prayer has been said in that church for 200 years, but this time it was for us.

From the Bride…We chose The Inn at Serenbe for our wedding because it offers a unique and beautiful background in a very intimate setting.  While planning, we envisioned our wedding taking place outdoors, in the fall, with a rustic theme.  We loved that Serenbe has a environmentally sustainable farm along with a vibrant community of residents, in addition to the inn.  We wanted to create a weekend event in which everyone could relax and enjoy the beautiful farm and community!

We chose aubergine and acid green as our wedding colors because we wanted to complement the natural hues with a pop of bright color. The best part about planning the wedding was seeing everything that started out as just an idea come together to make a complete piece.  We worked with some wonderful vendors who made our ideas come to life in the most beautiful way. I think our wedding turned out perfectly!  We had such a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends and I feel very blessed that we were able to work with people who will help us remember our wedding as one of the best and most beautiful days of our lives.

From Austin Imagery Photography…Rex Baker and Maria Vidart met at Rice University and after a long courtship the two were lucky to have two weddings – one in Texas at Rex’s family ranch and wedding venue in Dripping Springs, Texas and one in Columbia where Maria is from.  Cindi Baker, the mother-of-the groom played double duty as both hostess and venue owner!  She did have excellent vendors to assist her in one of the most important weddings ever at the venue; the caterer, Word of Mouth, served home style Texas food on vintage place settings and were also the cake designers and displayed a very simple and elegant butter cream cake with real Texas Pecan pies as the “groom’s cakes.” Cocktails made from local micro-distillery, Dripping Springs Vodka, served as the signature drink.  Heritage House is the quintessential Texas Hill Country venue; the ranch has a quaint and private chapel, a huge party area with a view of the Texas Hill Country and a row of rustic cabins for guests to stay in.

Family and friends from all over the US and Columbia came in for the wedding.  We absolutely loved all the personal and vintage touches to the wedding day – from mismatched heirloom china plates for the table setups to the vintage Underwood typewriter for guests to type personal sentiments to the bride and groom.  There was also a cigar bar for the groomsmen and other weddings guests and, our personal favorite, the couple’s dogs served as ring-bearers!  The bridal bouquet and table florals were designed by Petal Pushers who designed the flowers around a wildflower theme.  The whole wedding day had a lovely feeling of days-gone-by.

From Buffy Dekmar Photography…The sweet bride, Mandie, is a first grade teacher and a modern artist. She makes her own stationery and other paper goodies, so everyone knew her wedding would be full of funky, creative, out-of-the-ordinary details. The yellow and grey color scheme looked great against the Georgia pine trees behind their charming church, and the cowboy boots added the perfect touch of southern flair. The guys balanced things out with their grey sneakers and modern suits. Mandie and Justin’s ultra relaxed bridal party had fun playing around in the shaded woods behind the church… So much fun that they almost forgot it was 100 degrees out there. No worries about the sweat, though, because Mandie’s mom had everyone covered. She came out with lots of colorful bandannas to wipe our brows! The day unfolded seamlessly from the precious bride and groom’s “first look” in the woods, to their church exit to the song “Forever Young” (The couple’s new last name is Young!) and then to their sweetly styled getaway to the reception.

Some of my favorite touches of personality from this wedding were the yellow and silver wishing sticks; sweet flower girl’s twine headband with butterflies; folk band at the church doors playing music during the guests’ entrance and exit; Model A Ford getaway car (won at a raffle); “guest libs” in the programs (fill-in-the-blank cards for guests to write notes to the bride and groom, which they dropped in a basket on the way out); personalized RSVP cards on display attached to an old box springs; and homemade white confectionaries of all types in lieu of a wedding cake. Mandie and Justin are such a sweet couple and their wedding was the perfect reflection of their lively personalities and their pure, unassuming love. What an awesome wedding day!
