from Robert and Kathleen’s blog … In our line of work, it’s not unusual to be completely surrounded by raw emotion. The way the groom’s voice cracks when he reads his vows, the deep breath a bride takes just before taking that first step down the aisle … For us, it’s one of the true perks of our job! One of the occupational hazards, though is that sometimes, the emotion gets to us, too. We can usually see it coming ~ when you have a couple whose connection is so evident that you feel it, even before you see them together! You feel it in the energy in the room while they’re each getting ready, in the excitement of the guests as they sit down for the ceremony. And as much as you prepare yourself, sometimes it just catches you off guard. There are little moments in every wedding that get to either one of us, but it’s not often that the very same moment touches us both ~ Rob and I ~ at the very same time. Robert and Kathleen Trenske are a husband and wife team who have the keen ability to capture all the details with big, bold clarity and all the emotions with a finesse and skill that few others have. And when you read their blog, you can just tell that they are really, fully consumed in every wedding that they shoot. On their blog, they share stories, not only of the day, but of the bride and groom … and you can just tell that thru the process, they’ve become friends!

Real Wedding: Dagney and Michael, III

Before we get into the last of the details from today’s featured affair, I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Robert and Kathleen for sending this to us and of course, to Dagney and Michael for letting us share in the celebration. Together with Candice Dowling of Jubilee Events, the crew is giving us a window into such a special wedding, such a romantic story…

From Robert and Kathleen…All of it looked right at home in their location, an airport hanger at Oxford Airport. The room looked perfect – almost feeling like a WWII USO function – complete with many gentleman in uniform (many of the guests were fellow servicemen), which was even more appropriate being that Saturday was Armed Forces Day.

From Robert, Kathleen and Candice…When Dagney & Michael took to the floor for their first dance, the look was complete. They they were – a classic couple in a setting so perfect it seemed like the creation of a Hollywood producer. The couple hired a classic 7 piece swing band to play music from the big band era. Their first dance was the Etta James classic, At Last, sung by their very dear friend Ana. The band provided amazing music all night long and gave a great rendition of Tuxedo Junction that had all their guests up and dancing!

A few extra details…The guestbook was a wooden propeller, handmade by local artisan. The placecards were actually boarding passes that the bride’s mother got from an airline. The table numbers featured “gate 1,” etc. All of the waitstaff wore wing pins from Continental Airlines.

OH and that amazing dress…it’s Maggie Sottero!

Real Wedding: Dagney and Michael, II

This afternoon we are all about travel inspired weddings. And when we saw this one, photographed by the incredible Robert and Kathleen Trenske, our heart did a little pitter patter. It’s just so unbelievably romantic. Seriously makes me want to swoop my husband away for an incredible vacation, a trip to Paris, a weekend of kisses, old movies and really great champagne.

From Robert and Kathleen…Dagney and Michael wanted a wedding that really reflected their personality and lifestyle. They both LOVE flying – a lot. Since she was raised in a military family (her father was a Commander in the Navy), and Michael is a Major in the Army, they decided to have a 1940s-style, aviation themed wedding.

With the help of Candice from Jubilee Events , they had everything they needed at the reception to really capture the style they were going for – a swing band, a black & white checked dance floor, even a vintage 1930s plane. The bridesmaids wore short white dresses and yellow sashes and all of the flowers were in shades of yellow and green.

From Candice…The bride carried a modern take on a cascading bouquet that was complete with gorgeous parrot tulips and yellow ranunculus, among other lush white and yellow flowers. The centerpieces were an arrangement of the same flowers including varying roses. They had beautiful white lilacs in silver mint julep cups and tall, fragrant flowering branches that were organically arranged by Jubilee Events in fluted vases.
Flowers were all designed by Flore Flower Design and linens by Cloth Connection.
