The reception, upon first glance looked rustic, but elegant.  They used basic white tablecloths and simple flatware, but they filled almost every empty space with the most gorgeous and colorful flowers, laced with feathers and dried grasses.  Ball jars filled with flowers even hung from the ceiling!  They folded little wild flowers into the napkins on the plates, and used muted colored paper instead of table runners.  They used plant hangers (the pole kind that you push into the ground) and hung jars of flowers at the ends of each aisle for their super quaint outdoor ceremony. Chayah also hand-made sparrow mobiles to hang from the ceiling of the reception.  She used old scraps of fabric, and grapevine branches harvested from a local grower to mount the birds to!

Tiny christmas lights decorated the ceiling of their reception, and they were smart enough to bring in overhead heaters that were actually quite classy and kept everyone toasty.  To save on funds, Chayah and Mike hand picked antique dinner plates from various thrift shops and antique stores in New England.  Combined with using Ball jars for drinks, it really gave the tables a unique and old-farm feel.  Chayah and Mike had Primate Fiasco, a “psychadelic dixieland” band play long into the night!  Chayah even got up and sang her bluesy version of “Do the Hokey Pokey”, which threw the crowd into beautiful hysterics.

Chayah’s puppy, Athena, was the speedy ring-bearer, and quite the star of the show when ring time came around.  When the time came, she dashed down the aisle, with the rings dangling from a ribbon around her neck.

From the bride…After a traditional church wedding, we chose my parents’ home for our reception because we couldn’t imagine anywhere more special or more beautiful to celebrate our marriage. It was important to us that our reception be a true reflection or ourselves; our style, interest, and values.

Our vision for the wedding was very traditional New England, reflected in the wedding Party’s attire of navy blazers, penny loafers (san socks) and Marblehead green pants (representation of the groom’s hometown) for the gentlemen; and navy and light blue dresses for the ladies paired with classic pearl strands. The color scheme of Navy and Marblehead green was complemented by pink flowers, and some pink and light blue accents. Our love for sailing was subtly represented by the beautiful Sperry tent crafted from sail cloth, the carrick bend knot napkin rings tied by the groom, and the Carrick bend knot letter pressed into our handmade invitations and duplicated on our programs.

We were lucky to have the talents of our family & friends to make our wedding unique and special- a talented uncle provided music for cocktail hour, and very talented friends created beautiful paper products. True to our values, we ensured that all the food served was ethically and locally produced, and we chose to donate to a local food pantry in lieu of favors. In addition to our personalized style, the emphasis on the party was for all our guests to have fun!

When we arrived at Sarah and Sanford’s back yard wedding we felt that we had landed in the middle of an idyllic Beatrix Potter landscape.  Sarah’s mom has cultivated an extraordinary garden on a 300 year old homestead that includes fruit trees, honeybees, a flock of geese, goats, chickens, and lovely flowers and plants.  Wild bunnies wandered across the yard now and then, and the trees were adorned with candles in jars and homemade birdseed hearts.  The Sperry tent was erected around an old apple tree in which Sanford had carved he and Sarah’s initials. Sarah’s mother helped create the wedding, and her creative touch was everywhere – favors were jars of jelly and honey that she had canned herself, she made not one but TWO delicious and beautiful wedding cakes.  Sarah and her mom made all of the centerpieces and bouquets – Sarah’s bouquet was wrapped with a piece of vintage ribbon.

From the amazing staff at Tangorra Wedding Planning…

The took place at the Crane Estate at Castle Hill…during a hurricane!! Luckily for all of us, the inside of the Estate is gorgeous, so even though we went to their “plan B”, no one was disappointed. The rain cleared for just a few minutes before dinner, when Erica and Don were able to sneak outside for some awesome, windy photos!

Erica chose a soft palette of pinks, cream and greens, which complimented the space so well. As it is with every wedding, it was the little touches that really tied everything together. Early on, Erica knew that she wanted to incorporate pears into the day. Guests found their seating cards, shaped as leaves pinned to green pears, which added a nice pop of color to the tables against the pink flowers and metallic cream linens. Their wonderful florist, J. Wrobel included pears into the centerpieces, and they had a pear inspired signature drink!

OK, so we didn’t exactly find the Marantz’ … but we do count them as friends!

This is straight up, off their website …

A chill New England wind blew in out of the south and waded its way through a mire of blue-gray fog … she pulled her veil close around her and stood quietly in the background. She didn’t have to be there. Didn’t have to wait. Her pictures were finished and she could’ve gone inside among the warm glow of friends & family. But she just smiled as she quietly declined. “I’ll wait for him.”

She’d been waiting for somebody like him her whole life. Someone who would love her with his whole heart and take care of her the way that she knew she would always take care of him. Someone who takes her hand when she’s getting out of a car and holds her just a little tighter when they dance. Someone who would love not only her, but her whole family as if they were his own. A comfort in the quiet, a compass in the storm. And today, more than any day, she knew that she had found him. See, she didn’t have to be there. Didn’t have to wait. But somewhere along the line she decided, “I’ll wait for him.”

Married: Joe & Jenna

Jenna & Joe were married at the beautiful Black Rock Yacht Club with the help of the amazing Traci Romano Events and Katherine Jacob of KD&J Botanica. And they got the coolest day EVER with all this crazy beautiful fog. ‘Cause as any photographer will tell you, we’ll take clouds and fog over bright sun any day!! So as you will very soon see why, I think their whole day felt like one big ongoing Ralph Lauren ad. Yea, it was nautical yumminess at its finest! First up, Justin went to hang with the guys and got some of my favorite guys getting ready shots…ummm… EVER:

Nobody tells a story better than Mary & Justin Marantz … their images, their words  … the best!

And so, since I tend to rely heavily upon our Little Black Book members for inspiration, I turned to Justin & Mary Marantz for a New England wedding filled to the brim with SMP-styled wedding details.

Julia and Mike were married last year in New Haven, Connecticut. As a surprise for Mike {the drummer}, Julia ordered custom drumsticks with their names and wedding date on them and had everyone banging them as they ran out of the church! How clever is that …

A beautiful day, a beautiful bride … and a great pair of yellow shoes = a recipe for success!
