Before we release the reigns though, we wanted to take a minute to remind all of you aspiring event designers out there that Jill, the design guru herself, is hosting a workshop on the beaches of Maui in just a few short weeks where she’s gathered the best in the biz to teach you how to really launch your brand the right way. From Jill of La Fleur Weddings… When Simply Bloom approached me to style their Photographer’s Workshop on Oahu, I was excited and honored to be a part. We had done some beautiful work together before and we work so well together.  They have such a lovely softness and femininity to their images that I decided to create my inspiration around the soft colors that I love and that they show off so well.  I wanted to make sure they were able to capture that while still using the beautiful surroundings at Makapu’u Beach on Oahu. I decided to go with light pink and tourquoise blue as the main colors with elements of seafoam green, natural palm, natural coral and blue glass thrown in. With the help of Yvonne Design, I envisioned and then created a large tee-pee on the sand with a pink and ivory honeycomb fabric and had a low table inside of it with an intimate table setting and long cushions on a woven rug topped with comfy pillows. I wanted to create a romantic, intimate space for a small wedding party to celebrate a private beach wedding or vow renewal.  I introduced elements of the sea that included sea fans and turquoise sea glass. The place cards and menus were created by Chelsea Petaja and attached to beautiful individual shells on woven shell and palm mats.  The flowers were soft, fluffy texture in blushes, sages and creams colors. I had a blast working with the local couple from Oahu that even brought along their restored ’64 VW bus as a prop for our shoot!  My favorite was the seafoam green colored Ramona Keveza gown that just seemed to flow right into the sea itself…the color was perfect!  Paired with handmade jewelry from Maui, the bride was stunning!  The groom wore a simple JCrew casual linen pant and crisp white shirt…perfect for a Hawaiian beach wedding.

From Jill La Fleur…

It’s pretty obvious why I would want to do a French-inspired shoot…my last name La Fleur is French for The Flower and I have always felt a strong connection to all things French all of my life.  This was a very personal shoot for me as I felt it was a representation of me.  I have always loved Audrey Hepburn and was inspired a bit by the movies Sabrina and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  I also adore French flower market stands!  But I wanted to add touches of the stylish Paris runways with the black lace gloves, the black and white stripes, the black net hairpieces and the Chanel-inspired jewels.  I wanted to pull all of these elements together but have them in a French-Provencal setting.  Sunstone Winery and Clairmont Lavender Farm were the perfect spots to capture the romance of the French countryside (especially since I live in an area that looks so much like it-Santa Ynez Valley, CA) with touches of Paris thrown in!

I also wanted to add some art to the shoot, as I always think of my favorite French artists when I think of France, and so I contacted the talented Karina Puente to do some pieces for me and added the feather masks as a theatrical touch.   We also wanted true romance to come through in these photos, so we found a couple that was engaged and obviously in love to model for us.  Regarding a couple of the details, I wanted to use burlap mixed with French blues and black and white toile (my office is filled with it!)  So, I created chair covers out of burlap fabric and tied them with the black and white wide striped ribbon…loved this DIY touch.  The black and white toile napkins were the touch I wanted to give the table a French feel and created a burlap and cameo napkin ring for them.  I found some amazing fleur-de-lis black glasses that worked perfectly with the table.  The “Love Notes” were an idea I had…guests could write a little love note on one of these darling French gift tags and place them in a terrarium filled with flowers.  I found toile and striped tissue paper and used it to wrap my baguettes tied off with some raffia.

I also used it to wrap Camilla’s beautiful bouquets for the guests to take away at my “flower-market” stand.  One of my favorite touches was the La Fleur Winery wine crate from the real place in France!   Camilla had the beautiful sofa and vanity that we thought would be perfect placed in a lavender field!  And I just had to have a black and white striped umbrella in here somehow!  I felt like this shoot was a true reflection of my style, my personality, my love of all things French and, of course, my name!

From Jill La Fleur…

Living in California, I sometimes miss the charm of the beautiful homes on the East Coast. Luckily, my husband is from Connecticut, so we get the chance to go back and take it all in when we visit. I find that every time I go, I take pictures of the houses the entire time because I just love the Colonial style homes there. When we were looking for a place to live last year, I about fell over when I drove up the hill to find an actual replica of an East Coast Connecticut Colonial home in our Santa Ynez Valley! We of course moved in right away and I am so in love with this home! Our new/old home and my husband’s home town were actually my inspirations for creating this shoot. I of course immediately think of Martha Stewart when I think of the East Coast and that gets me thinking about pale blue seersucker suits, eyelet, yellow gingham, coral peonies, pie carts and homemade jams. One of my favorite things about Connecticut is the wreaths you see on the doors and windows of the homes during the holidays. Since this was a summer shoot, I wanted to use white and yellow daisies for mine! This shoot took place at my actual home and I have to say I wanted to keep it decorated that way for weeks after and just have brunch outside every day! I thought it was the perfect summer garden wedding, brunch or bridal shower setting!

From Jill La Fleur… With all of the inspiration to reality shoots that have been happening lately, I decided I wanted to put my creative talents to the test and jump on board. However, I had so many creative visions I didn’t know where I wanted to start so the thought came about to do a series of shoots with the same floral designer, Camilla Svensson Burns, showcasing how diverse our designs together can be. We also thought it would add a unique touch to do a film of each of the shoots as they were created and added Joel Serrato to our creative team for each shoot. I was so thrilled with what we created together and hope that everyone agrees! And as you will see in the following inspirational shoots, I am so lucky to work with such an amazingly talented and fun group of vendors in this wedding and event industry! I still can’t believe looking at the original inspiration boards I created months ago and seeing the images and films of the final product, how perfectly they all came together! They were exactly what I had envisioned and I just want to thank everyone involved for helping me create these beautiful shoots and bring them all to life!

I have been admiring the beautiful work of SimplyBloom Photography for a while now and thought it would be wonderful to meet them and create something together. They had a trip planned to California and contacted me to see if we could set up a shoot together. To give me an idea of their style, they sent me a few images of  what they had in mind and many of them included marshmallows! I was immediately intrigued and my head filled with visions of soft, billowy fabric, fluffy lamp shades, pillows and rugs, hot chocolate and s’mores and the tones of toasted marshmallows with touches of blush thrown in. I felt like this was the perfect palette for SimplyBloom’s romantic and airy photographic style and I just love everything about these colors, tones and details!

From La Fleur Weddings…This beautiful, intimate wedding was set in the hills above the Santa Ynez Wine Country, on the 200 year old Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse. The location and the wedding had the feeling of a country California theme.  The style elements of the wedding included antique pewter, burlap, lace, white antique and deep rose, old galvanized metal, bamboo, natural grasses and other various textures and details. The bride’s absolutely Stunning dress had beautiful lace details which tied in nicely with the lace wrapping on her bouquet and the lace overlays on the cream linens on the guest tables.  The flowers were very natural and included lilac, freesia, dusty miller, ferns, peonies, fresh sage, natural grasses and potted herbs.  Dariel’s bouquet had deep to light cream tones, while the Bridesmaids bouquets represented slightly brighter rose tones with accents of dusty miller & sage greens.  Sage green was also the color of the Bridesmaid’s dresses from Alfred Angelo. The Groomsmen had the option of wearing 3 different colored suits, with a black skinny tie-Loved that!

The ceremony, set a top a grassy hill, was full of beautiful details.  The simple chuppah was adorned with a soft cotton gauze fabric and simple delicate flowers, wheat and natural grasses, and was carried out by the groomsmen and bridesmaids. The poles were of natural stained wood and blended nicely with the rustic setting.  The Officiant was the Groom’s Godfather, and as the newlywed couple departed down the center aisle, friends and family threw congratulatory paper ribbon streamers!

After the ceremony, the guests followed a pathway of stringed lights that lead up to the reception area. The guests were then entertained on the house deck by cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a fantastic folk/bluegrass band complete with mandolinist!  The groom is a musician himself and he had a big part in the band selection, so you know they were great! The amazing food by Pure Joy Catering included passed appetizers of caramelized onion tarts & tomato, mesquite grilled shrimp with citrus mint dipping sauce, and ocean fresh ceviche, with guacamole dollop served in cosmopolitan glasses with chips. The sunset views and ambiance were incredible as you can see from BB Photography’s amazing photos.

First Row (top left)…I love this gorgeous tea setting by La Fleur Weddings. So completely elegant. Jill has a TON of inspiration on her website so definitely check out her gallery of recent weddings when you have a minute!

First Row (top right)…This seashell floral arrangement is stunning. Sent to me by Crown Weddings, a beautiful event planning firm out of San Diego, this images screams beach-side elegance.

Second Row…I love this antique lace detail on the brides bouquet. Sent to me by Pat’s Floral Design in Charlottesville, it’s just such a pretty, elegant touch.

Third Row (left)…This bouquet, sent to me by Big City Bride in Chicago, was fashioned to look like one huge flower. I think the end result is so pretty, particularly paired with the brides beautiful lace gown.

Third Row (right)…This gorgeous image was also sent to me by La Fleur Weddings. Floating roses in beautiful vases is such a unique alternative to your standard arrangement. Gorgeous!

Fourth Row…Camilla Svensson Burns, an incredible florist out of Santa Barbara sent me this stunning Asian seascape inspired table. I completely love the combination of wispy florals, shells and Asian style place settings.
