It’s been a while since we’ve featured some of Kathleen’s work on SMP. For those of you that don’t know…Kathleen is our DIY guru and has been providing the coolest projects made especially for our readers for the past few months. We first fell in love with her when she entered our DIY contest way back when, but have since fallen more and more head over heels as we see what she can really do.

So today, we are sharing some completley adorable DIY favor boxes. If you missed the first two boxes, click here and here.

The best thing about this set is that they are total perfection standing alone or mixed and matched! And, you know how I feel about yellow. They are just adorable.

To download the pink polka dots, click right here. To download the yellow stripes, click right here. To download the pink flowers, click right here. To download the yellow waves, click right here.

All you have to do, is print the template onto an 8.5×11” piece of card stock (80 lb) with a color printer. Score along dotted lines with a bone folder and a ruler. With an x-acto knife and ruler, cut along solid lines. Fold box together and tape shut with double-sided tape where indicated.

We have a lot of fun things happening on SMP today! First, though, I wanted to introduce another new DIY Editor that we’ve enlisted to help us grow our DIY project base…Whitney Deal of Darling Dexter! I fell in love with her blog months ago and after seeing all of the ridiculously great projects that she crafted for her own wedding, I had to ask her to become a part of Style Me Pretty!

So, without further ado, here is her first project, based on the Sweet Love concept that she had at her wedding!

So, so cute! Perfect for a quaint, “sweet” wedding, a shower or any other party for that matter! Here are the step-by-step images that coordinate with the instructions below…

Materials:
Several sheets of cardstock for the front (preferably white)
Several sheets of cardstock for the backing (a contrasting color)
Glue Stick
Decorative Paper Punch (I have a doilie punch from the Martha Stewart Craft Line)
Ribbon
Scissors
Xacto Knive or Ribbon Paper Punch

Instructions:

1. Decide on what you would like your sign to say and then head to the computer to print out the individual letters. If you are looking for a more interesting font to use but don’t want to invest a lot of money on a high-price font, check out sites like dafont.com which offer mounds of free fonts.

2. Now is the time to decide how big you would like each of your individual letters to be–depending on where you plan to display them and how far away they need to be read. When cutting out your color backing be sure to make it large enough that when you punch your design into the edges, it still peaks around the sides of your letters.

3. Glue the two pieces of cardstock together.

4. Using an xacto knife or a ribbon paper punch (I know the Martha Stewart Craft Line carries one of these handy tools) — make the slots for your ribbon to pass through

5. Lastly, weave your ribbon through the individual letters and voila!

Whitney is the epitome of that sweet sophistication that we feature so much here on SMP. I know that her aesthetic is going to resonate with so many of our readers so needless to say, I am beyond thrilled that she is joining Kathleen as a DIY editor. Definitely check out Darling Dexter (although you’ll need to allot a few hours, because it’s that addicting), when you have some time!

PS – If you are interested in joining our DIY team of editors, shoot me an email with a link to some of the projects that you’ve crafted!

My husband is hands down, without a doubt, the worst secret keeper on the planet. At least when it comes to buying gifts. He can barely manage to get himself in the door before he is asking, “do you want your birthday present early?” It’s a fault that I absolutely love about him.

Well, today, I am SO following in his footsteps. Our DIY editor, Kathleen, just emailed me her latest project and although I was supposed to wait until Friday to post it, I am going to share it with you today. It’s that great!

* * *

DIY Handmade Greeting
Whether you’re inviting a friend to be in your wedding or thanking them for participating, your attendants deserve a note that’s as beautiful as they are. Invite or thank them with a handmade envelope and card.

Here are the step by step photographs that coordinate with the instructions below. Happy crafting!!

Materials Needed:
Sewing Machine
Pinking Shears or Rotary Cutter
One piece of Ultrasuede fabric
Satin Ribbon
Coordinating Threads
Metal Ruler
X-acto Knife

Instructions:
Step 1: With scissors, trim ultrasued to 5.5″ x 8.75″. Cut a piece of coordinating ribbon to 20″ long. Align Ribbon to the center of the fabric lengthwise and pin about 3.5″ down from the top on the right side of fabric. Secure ribbon with a sewing machine. Fold bottom of the envelope up about 2.5″. Sew both sides shut with a sewing machine.

Step 2: Measure .5″ in from the top center of the envelope. With an x-acto knife, cute a straight line through the fabric just wide enough to accommodate your ribbon. Measure .25″ up and repeat the same cut. Thread ribbon through slots.

Step 3: Place a standard 4-Bar card in the envelope or download this template of cards and print out onto card stock on your home printer. Follow the instructions in the template on how to trim out.

Step 4: Once the card is placed in the envelope fold top over and pull snug. Using pinking shears or ruler and rotary pinking cutter, trim each side to get the decorative scalloped edge. Make sure to do this step last so that the scallop edges line up. Snip ends of ribbon to points and tie in a bow!

* * *

Thank you so much, Kathleen for sharing this gorgeous DIY project with us! When I invited my own bridesmaids, I crafted something similar, sewing little silk pockets with handmade cards tucked inside. I know that my maids so appreciated the thought and the love that went into each one.

Oh and this part is really important…DONT forget to check out Kathleen’s absolutely adorable new blog Twig and Thistle for some really fun inspiration. And if you’d like to see past projects that she has crafted, you can see her custom matchbooks here, her custom sparklers here, her hot chocolate packs here and her DIY lunch bags here!

From Kathleen, the lovely, lovely bride…

Since a large part of both of our childhoods was sitting around a dinner table, a family style meal was a given. We managed to save quite a bit of money by doing many of the projects ourselves. I am a graphic designer so I designed all of the printed materials and other details. I found my dress online and was able to buy it at nearly half the price. We choose to take advantage of the beauty and simplicity of the venue and kept the decorations to a minimum. The only flowers at the wedding were actually the bouquets that each of my sisters carried. My mother-in-law sewed the two table runners and the back-drop to our alter. And the music was simply an iPod hooked up to the winery’s AV system.

So much more to come!

If it makes me swoon, I feature it!

So of course, Kathleen’s wedding was a no brainer…

Well, today, we get to see her own ridiculously gorgeous recent wedding, including all of the perfect little touches we’ve seen along the way. First, the gray and yellow, ultra-chic invitations that Kathleen designed for her affair…

From Kathleen…

Joe and I wanted the wedding of our dreams but we were facing a fairly modest budget. We started the process by setting priorities. For Joe, it was a generous and well prepared meal. For me, it was all the printed pieces and design elements. I am a graphic designer so I designed all of the invitations and accouturements. We splurged on having the invitation program letterpressed!

Here are a few more pics…
