Blue has never really been on my radar as far as favorite colors go. That is until now. The perfect shade of blue is making a dreamy appearance in just about every nook and cranny of this Charleston wedding. From the vibrant azure of the bridesmaid’s dresses to the softest pale blue of the hydrangeas and it fits right in with this Southern soirée crafted from beginning to end by Tiffany Snyder of Loluma. One thing that has always been on my favorites radar though is Corbin Gurkin who has never taken anything short of an amazing photograph. From Corbin Gurkin Photography…Ross and Amanda met nearly 10 years ago at Elon College, and their friends knew, it was a match made in heaven from the start. They chose Charleston for the celebration of their nuptials as many couples do for its beauty, romantic and historical feel, great food, and a weekend of entertainment for their guests. This wedding turned out just as Amanda and her family dreamed. In a wedding venue, they wanted an intimate and casual feel that was an extension of the property itself. The private, southern, estate feel of the Governor Thomas Bennett House was exactly what they had in mind for the modernized, Victorian style reception, and the garden setting made for an incredible backdrop for the ceremony under an oak tree strung with white wash, French chandeliers.

Following the ceremony, the guests were led into the house for a champagne toast from the bride and groom on the gorgeous spiral staircase. They were then left to enjoy the house along with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while the bridal party returned to the garden for photos. The tent on the carriage house lawn awaited the group following cocktail hour and as guests were led there, they strolled under trees of votives in clear glass to create a dreamy effect of twinkling light that increased as the night progressed. The elements of detail in the tent focused on various lighting fixtures, an antique style mirrored bar and back bar shelf lined with an eclectic assortment of votives. The lounge accented with pale blue and cream toss pillows embraced a glass cube coffee table filled with the bride’s signature blue hydrangea glowing with soft light. To top it all off, the addition of perfect fall weather was the best gift the bride was given all day.

Charleston Wedding by Nashan Photography

I’m pretty sure that this next wedding is a southern fairy tale. From the plantation location, to the flowers, to the outdoor living room, this wedding is just oozing with southern charm. Captured beautifully by Nashan Photography, this fete is so super pretty, it promises to wow even the most discerning of princesses out there. From Nashan Photography: He was a professional Hockey Player and she worked for Bumble and Bumble before leaving the city to live with him in Canada. She is a GORGEOUS bride and he and his groomsmen are incredibly handsome. The monochromatic themed wedding puts an emphasis on vintage beauty. There are some beautiful portraits of them in the reflected mirrored table, of the wedding party in the outdoor living room with a disguised heater/lamp, their flowers were gorgeous, each guest received a jar of honey from her parents farm in Tennessee. Jim Smeal made the simple cake and intricate birthday cake with fairies for a bridesmaid’s daughter who’s birthday shared their wedding date.

Charleston Wedding by Ooh! Events

It’s pretty much a given that we are going to fall in love with anything that Lisa Thomas of Ooh! Events in Charleston sends us. Her weddings are always so completely romantic, so completely Charleston. And this one…oh my. It’s total gorgeousness. It has this really old world, Grace Kelly vibe about it, where tradition meets total style. And although I could easily talk all day about this one, I’ll just let the beautiful pictures by Tracey Turpen speak for themselves.

From Lisa Thomas at Ooh! Events…

Lisa and Jake, Ohio natives, had weathered 5 years of long distance relationship when Jake finally popped the question during a vacation at the Turks and Caicos. Charleston, SC seemed like a perfect place for their families from all over the country to gather to celebrate. They wanted some place close to the city so their guests could truly have a experience Charleston. They quickly decided on Lowndes Grove. Lisa envisioned a classic, intimate event with lots of neutrals to compliment the Plantation in it’s natural form.

In a picture perfect ceremony they said, “I Do” under a live oak tree that was adorned with crystal chandeliers while Ann Caldwell sang classic jazz throughout the ceremony. Lisa and her bridesmaids looked stunning as Lisa choose a vintage glam style. The floral only added to this unique, vintage, elegance with garden roses, snowberries, hydrangeas, and casablanca lilies in vintage milk glass collection from Out Of Hand. Under an array of tents they continued their celebration with an original mix of cuisines as gold drum shades cast a romantic glow into the night and threw a pattern of stars on the ceiling. The legendary Charleston baker, Jim Smeal, created a cake that was a masterpiece that accompanied Out Of Hand’s vintage elegance.

The newlyweds and their guests were kept dancing all evening with the Two 3 Ways band and a DJ later in the night. A group of 50 guests accompanied Lisa and Jake as they kept on dancing the night away at the rooftop of the Market Pavilion Hotel. The next day as they jet set away on their honeymoon, Lisa and Jake knew they’d never forget their wedding experience as anything other than amazing!

Real Wedding: Brad + Laura, V

The details. That is what today’s wedding was ALL about. Every little detail was not only thought out, it was designed and crafted by Brad or Laura. From perfect menus and place cards, to handcrafted truffles tucked inside DIY favor boxes, custom cocktail flags, even beer that Brad brewed for months before the wedding then bottled up and drove down to Charleston.

The AMAZING cakes were by Jim Smeal and the flowers were all done by the fabulous Tiger Lily Weddings in Charleston. Event Design was done by Duvall Catering and Event Design. And, the FABULOUS Kelli Nixon shot all of the photography.

SMP Loves…Jim Smeal

And I mean, seriously loves. The oh-so-talented Jim Smeal is crafting the wedding cakes for my design-savvy (soon-to-be) sister-in-law which I couldn’t be more excited about. He designs these perfect, one part preppy, one part totally chic wedding cakes that literally elevate your wedding style to the next level. It’s hard to find the words to say just how much I love Jim Smeal.

A Wedding Soiree by Tara Guerard, III

A few more tid-bits from the oh-so-chic Tara Guerard…

Top Left: The lounge tent was lined in copper and blue and had chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. We had wicker chaises and sofas with matching pillows and throws! Picture perfect!

Top Right: Jim Smeal makes the most amazing and delicious cakes! They were designed after the bride’s lace on her dress!

Center: We had three cakes, all had different layers and favors! Since we can get a bit obsessive, one favorite had to be blueberry to match our color scheme!

Bottom Left: For the send off we placed rose petals in a simple mesh bag with a tag that read “tied the nott!” We had to incorporate the bride’s last name of “nott”, all the way through… starting with the guests bags and ending with their send off.
