From the Bride… For inspiration and ideas, I looked to the internet, browsing wedding blogs and making use of tools like the inspiration board builder on SMP’s Style Circle. To keep with Round Hill’s elegantly quaint charm, I made all sorts of things with lace/doily accents: paper bag luminaries spelling out our names, hand-stenciled monogrammed doily tote bags for my bridesmaids, and our LOVE banner (which i made the day before the wedding — i originally wanted to make a THANK YOU banner but ran out of steam and chose a shorter word!). I loved picking out fonts for our paper goods. Some wonderful friends (along with several bottles of wine) were enlisted to help with the more intensive DIY projects: decorative labels and packaging for our tea favors, dinner menus, various signs, accordion-style ceremony programs, and stamped ribbon drink stirrers in pastel rainbow colors. Doing arts & crafts together while having wine and cocktails was also definitely memorable and I’m thankful I had such fun company during stressful times. My husband got into it as well and made all of our table number signs himself, choosing to pick stops along the NYC subway that represented neighborhoods in the city where we fell in love and grew as a couple.

The wedding day itself went by in a blissful blur. Our families are large and spread out and although many people could not attend, we still had guests from all over the US, Toronto, London, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Malaysia. One of the uncles was on his iPad for practically the entire event, skyping to Omar’s cousins in Pakistan so that they could take part in the celebration oceans away. It was amazing to be surrounded by so much love and generosity leading up to that day and to be able to celebrate with so many special people. We were thrilled by our photographer and videographers who captured on camera many memories that we will cherish for years to come — worth every penny if not more! And we were excited recently to open up the first set of anniversary cards that guests had written for us at the wedding — another guaranteed way to relive the hopeful joy of the day again and again!

From Jubilee Events… A wedding with so many carefully thought out details: that was the story of Anna and Matt. They started their planning journey with a rocky start– troubled by hardships. Luckily, they entered a contest on Style Me Pretty and were chosen to receive a wedding with support by a lot of special vendors, including Jessica’s Country Flowers, who organized the give-a-way and designed all of their flowers.

They were destined to have an Alice in Wonderland styled wedding on the last weekend of summer, surrounded by 150 of their nearest and dearest. Mostly do-it-yourself, they took on a ton of projects to truly make their wedding their own. From fabric pennant flags that the bride sewed, to the wedding paper suite expertly designed by the groom (with a little help from an amazing illustrator Krista Wildermuth). Perhaps the most amazing piece of homemade décor was the antique door we suspended above their long, family style head table with dozens of antique medicine bottles hanging above like a chandelier. The sweetest part of their story is they were inspired by so many blogs and other couples!

In this kind of styled event, we were inspired by the original Alice in Wonderland and took some visual cues: pearls that the bride wore, “eat me” and “drink me” signs, a play on cards using them as favors and being inspired by them with their cake, the use of zinnias and dahlias in their flowers. But overall, Anna and Matt wanted a colorful, fun, and quirky look that represented them as a couple. We used fun and playful colors— aqua, blue, pink, red, and shades of silver to bring their vision to life.

Their ceremony took place just a stones throw from where the bride grew up at a little, teeny tiny church called Hope Valley Church. A hydrangea covered wreath greeted guests at the steeple and sweet music from a duo of violins prompted the ceremony, where Anna was escorted down the aisle by her dad. She wore an absolutely gorgeous gown with ruffles that cascaded down the back… And layers, and layers of vintage pearls collected from flea markets & antique shops. A cage veil and pretty fascinator, all from The White Dress by the Shore. Matt wore a Versace suit and tie with a pair of custom chuck taylors.

After the ceremony, guests blew bubbles and saw the newly weds off to their epic reception— complete with gorgeous tablescapes designed by us full of sweet little details, and a lot of fun. The bride and groom had their hand on every piece of décor for their wedding— we scouted vintage china used to serve guests dinner at flea markets (Brimfield, to be exact!) together and borrowed unique pieces from Anna’s father— a man who loves antiques! Each guest plucked their escort card from an antique barn door from Anna’s home that Matt hammered vintage nails into. A tag with their name on it, affixed to a skeleton key, guided them to their table. After dinner, they danced the night away with family and friends into the wee hours!

From Jessica ~ Lush centerpieces sat on top of beautiful curvy vases with white orchids submerged in water of pink hydrangea, ‘Faith’ and ‘Anna’ roses, with white cymbidium orchids submerged in water. For the low centerpieces, the same flowers were designed in a low dish and placed on footed cake dishes that Lord Thompson Manor had. The bride’s hand tied bouquet of ‘Patience’ garden roses, ivory roses and white cymbidium orchids with pink throats. We wrapped it with a wide ivory satin ribbon and detailed of French knots. The bridesmaids carried simplistic yet very pretty bouquets of ‘Cool water’, ‘Faith’ and ‘Anna’ roses. Wrapped partially with ivory satin ribbon and sheer pale pink ribbon of French knots.

From the Beautiful Bride:
The Manor is such a unique venue in that we spent the entire weekend on the property and everything (including the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, the After Party-after the wedding on Saturday night, and Brunch on Sunday) all took place there. The Manor has about 40 acres and two properties. The main property is the actual Manor where there are 6 guest rooms (Adam and I, our parents, etc… stayed in the Manor) and the other property being the Cottage House, located about 1 mile up the road in the center of Thompson, has another 7 guest rooms as well as a spa.

The entire property was exclusively ours for the weekend so it makes it very stress free to know you don’t have to run all over the place to the church, another place to take pics, etc…. everything was right there!

Adam is from NY and my family is from the other side of CT so we knew people would need to travel. The Manor was the perfect setting to get all of our family and friends together in a rural setting without any other distractions. The guys hung out at the Manor on Saturday and played games in the huge backyard while my bridesmaids and I got ready in the spa at the Cottage House. (You can see hair/makeup at the spa in some of Alissa’s pics) The pictures of me getting dressed are actually in one of the guest rooms at the Cottage House. The clean white linens and beautiful wood floors make for the perfect backdrop for the ‘getting ready’ shots!

The Manor is very secluded and feels very homey but is also a VERY romantic setting for a wedding with statues throughout the gardens and vines crawling up the side of the house. I wanted my girls in long flowy chiffon gowns so it looked like they were just floating as they glided down the isle. I thought that pink roses were the perfect flowers to go with my ‘romantic’ theme. Having 4 flower girls, 2 being much younger, it worked perfectly to have the two older girls carry the balls of light pink roses (loved them!) and to have the little ones throw petals out of their baskets. I loved how the guys all had orchids to match the orchids that were in my bouquet as well as the tall centerpieces. It all tied together perfectly!

Some sentimental things: I held my grandmother’s necklace around my bouquet and the necklace I was wearing was something we had our jeweler make from jewelry that Adam’s mother had given us.

The weather was absolutely perfect and was definitely the perfect final touch to, what was to me, an absolute fairy tale wedding. I could not ask for anything more: a unique and amazing venue, beautiful flowers, and perfect weather!!!

From Jessica  of Jessica’s Country Flowers…Caitlin and Mike applied for our deserving couple contest back in 2009.  They were going through some family issues and struggling financially.  Mike was leaving his job to go back to school full time and they were living off of one income.  They are such a loving couple, devoted to their family and to each other.  We couldn’t of selected a more grateful and truly deserving couple.

The setting: The Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown, New York.  They were married in the chapel on the grounds, Cornwallville Church.  Then the reception following in the barn at the museum.  The Farmer’s Museum is a spectacular venue that has deep roots in New York State’s rural history.  The museum is set on 120 acres of pristine farm land which has been a working farm since the 1790′s.  The Farmer’s Museum is a private, non-profit educational organization.

Caitlin had a really great inspiration board she had created for us.  I used old aluminum sap buckets from my parent’s sugar house to showcase some antique purple hydrangea I picked out of my gardens at 4:30 am the morning of the wedding.  For her centerpieces we created three different looks.  One was in wooden crates, lined with sheet moss and overflowing with seasonal flowers.  The other were chocolate footed metal urns filled with antique hydrangea, garden spray roses and locally grown flowers.  For a simple look, we gathered bright pink and purple salvia, fresh mint, fresh sage leaves and garden roses in various sized mason jars.  Then, clustered them together on the tables.  The smell of fresh herbs is intense and wonderful for a summery wedding.

We created a “family tree” with manzanita branches in tall cylinder vases and purple mokara orchids.  The bride created her own DIY escort cards of flower seeds in envelopes.  We strung natural twine from the two trees and then hung each escort card with a wooden clothes pin.  Natural twine can be found at your local Home Depot or hardware store.  We dressed the escort card table with chocolate color burlap.

Since many guests were traveling, we created cute out of town guest bags.  We filled natural burlap bags with tissue paper, then added raspberry rhubarb jam from Lamothe’s Sugar House, bottled water, Crunch and munch, raisinettes and lavender oatmeal soap from Goat Boy soaps.  I picked up prepackaged “thank you” notes at Walmart and attached them to the handle of each bag with a wooden clothes pin.

Along with Jennifer from Cookie Creatives, we created a really awesome candy station.  She hand made caramel/chocolate popcorn, sea salt caramels, homemade marshmallows, chocolate dipped pretzel rods and three different kinds of chocolate bars.  We added maple lollipops and maple salt water taffy from the sugar house to the display.  I also made my parents famous Maple farmhouse chocolate chip cookies and placed them in jars for guests to help themselves to.   Jennifer also hand decorated sugar cookies with the couples monogram on and flowers.  We displayed those in vintage wooden trays amongst all the candy jars.

For a little candlelight romance, the staff at the Farmer’s Museum helped us hang green oxidized metal lanterns with real candles.  We used thin copper wire to hang them from little eye hooks that were already in the wood beams.  Since the ceilings were so tall, it helped to break up the space and add some drama.”

I knew from the beginning that our wedding would be non-traditional. We come from different backgrounds, and we knew that we didn’t want our wedding to reflect a tradition that neither of us fully felt compatible with, but more so who we are as a couple and how we view the world. I probably would have gone off the deep end with all the non-traditional elements, but Mike is a little more conservative and pulled me toward the center throughout the process.

With that intention, we tried to be very purposeful with our choices. We knew we wanted a natural-looking event, so we chose an earthy palette (my rules: no bold colors, no glitter) with shades of sage, oatmeal, soft yellow, stone gray and blush throughout. As an environmental engineer and now law student, Mike is very concerned with the environment, so we tried to be very conscious of our waste. We incorporated as many recycled or reusable products as possible (soy candles as escort cards, found materials, etc.), we tried to “go local” and also limit our paper usage, and we found vendors who understood our sense of purpose and us and could work with it.

From Jessica, at Jessica’s Country Flowers … For the bride’s flowers, bouquets were hand-tied and consisted of peonies, garden roses, dahlias, billy balls, and various in-season, locally grown flowers. We used natural twine to wrap the stems of all of the bouquets. We used the same twine for detailing on all of the boutonnieres. We used a mix of high and low centerpieces. The low pieces were in wooden boxes with a gardeny mix. The tall ‘tree’ centerpieces were created out of curly willow branches, moss and roses along with cymbidium orchids. We finished the base of each tree with moss and river rocks to complete the natural look. The Chuppah they were married under was simple, with birch branches, fabric and only a few touches of flowers.

From the bride … We used the willow branch as our motif. As an English teacher, I appreciate the symbolism that a willow bends, but it does not break–like a strong relationship. It appeared on the invitations, on the small cake (made by a family friend), on the table numbers, and in the floral look. I wrote our ceremony, and it was officiated by my best friend’s father. It incorporated elements of both of our faiths that were dear to us, and we also shared a sonnet by Pablo Neruda, since I was living abroad in Chile the months before I met Mike, and he sweetly brought Chilean wine to our first real date.We chose ethnic foods that we love for our appetizers and served cookies and an ice cream sundae bar for dessert.

from Jessica at Jessica’s Country Flowers …

This wedding was designed and photographed specifically with Style Me Pretty in mind. We gathered some amazing LBB members to design, create and photograph a photo shoot wedding. Katie and Alan were married at the Society Room in Hartford, Connecticut on February 13, 2010. It was a winter wonderland theme wedding and with snow freshly fallen in Connecticut, made the perfect scenery. Katie and Alan had their first look photos taken prior to the ceremony so they could completely enjoy cocktail hour. They headed to the newly renovated Old State House to take images before their ceremony. Katie had the most beautiful gown with lace detailing by Watters.

For her bouquet, we created a lush hand-tied bouquet of ‘patience’ garden roses, ‘vendella’ roses, white cattelya orchids and white sweet peas. Wrapping the stems with a very wide ivory satin ribbon and the most gorgeous broach from Regina B (which looked like snow swirling through the sky). The groom’s boutonniere was white sweet peas wrapped with thin ivory satin ribbon which was simple and different. (Since sweet peas are rather delicate, I made several spare boutonnieres!) The rest of the gentlemen had boutonnieres which were white mini calla lilies and a crystal branch with stems wrapped with thin ivory satin ribbon. The bridesmaids carried hand-tied bouquets of white mini calla lilies, white cymbidium orchids, ivory roses and white sweet peas. We wrapped the stems with a dark chocolate/copper color ribbon with copper sequins and thread detailing.

We designed a dramatic escort card display with Manzanita branches, sprayed with snow and iridescent glitter to add that wintery look. Button mums tightly clustered together at the base looked like snow and touches of white cattelya orchids, white cymbidium orchids and vendella roses added more interest. Sixpence For Your Shoe draped the tree with crystal garlands (purchased at Save-On-Crafts)  and hung their escort cards with white wire from those crystals. This was a show stopping pieces as guests entered the venue. Sixpence For Your Shoe also hung the program card from the back of the chairs with a deep eggplant colored ribbon.

The Hartford Society Room is a stunning location, featuring a thirty-five foot tall mural ceiling in the main ballroom with marble, brass and bronze accents throughout. Tables were draped in an ivory shimmer crinkle taffeta linen from Cloth Connections. Sixpence provide beautiful vintage-styled napkin treatments. They also purchased a variety of vintage frames (ebay) and spray-painted them silver for the table numbers.

Because the room has such enormously tall ceilings Jessica’s Country Flowers created some tall  centerpieces and some low centerpieces. Custom wooden bases, made from recycled wood were made by my talented husband, Scott! For double duty, the two “trees” which highlighted the ceremony were used as the couple’s backdrop during dinner with their sweet heart table set in front of them. A coffee station and a candy station were set up in the lounge pub area. We also set up the candy station in this area. Butterfly & Company had tea-dipped the most incredible napkins to be used with the coffee station and cake after dinner!

What a beautiful, beautiful winter wedding!

The details from Jessica …

We hung ivory and pale pink Chinese lanterns around the perimeter of the tent. They alternated square and round tables throughout the tent, which added much interest. Clean, crisp white linens were a nice touch for a summer evening wedding. Bright, vibrant flowers were the perfect touch. Tall centerpieces in a slender vase filled with a stem of cymbidium orchids and water with an arrangement at top of white hydrangea and an abundance of roses. Low centerpieces were in a footed chocolate/copper urn and were lush. Coastal Gourmet provided all catering, the wedding cake , tent and all other rentals. The bride’s bouquet was hand-tied and consisted of pink dahlias, ‘Anna’ and ‘vendella’ roses. I wrapped the stems with ivory raw silk and added a vintage shoe buckle and weaved the ribbon through. The girls bouquets were similar but, with ‘latin breeze’ roses and mini green hydrangea in addition to give them a little more pop of color. The bride’s wedding gown was strapless ivory lace with a satin ribbon and beautiful crystal beading ~ a Jim Hjelm gown.  Her earrings were crystal chandelier and a crystal cuff bracelet from a Swarovski boutique at Westfarms mall. She did her own make-up because our makeup artist couldn’t find the hotel in time!!

The wedding was held in September with the ceremony at the Ethel Walker Chapel and reception following just down the road at Hopmeadow Country Club. It was a cocktail-style reception with tons of hors d’oeuvres and many different stations for guests to choose from.  The bride was very detail oriented and hand-painted white pumpkins with their monogram, plus brought in all of her own jar luminaries from her father’s glass company.

Overall Meghan wanted the wedding to have a very organic, rustic and earthy feel to it.  She used the ivory cotton linens provided by the reception site and added burlap squares for texture, color and feel of rustic New England.  Her bouquets were hand-tied bouquets of white dahlias, white button mums, seeded eucalyptus and white mini calla lilies along with white snowberries.  Simple boutonnieres were created using white/creamy color dahlias.  The which paired beautifully with the gentleman’s tan color suits.  I would say this wedding had a little bit of a preppy feel to it with the bridesmaids gowns, the stunning stationery and the ties the bride chose for the gentlemen.  She wanted a really fun atmosphere and a lasting impression on her guests.
