New England Wedding + Wedding Giveaway Winner!

Yep, you read that right. Not only do you get to swoon over this gorgeous New England wedding, you also get to hear the winners of the wedding giveaway that Jessica’s Country Flowers, Justin and Mary Marantz and a whole collection of amazing vendors are gifting two very lucky couples. The wedding was held in September with the ceremony at the Ethel Walker Chapel and reception following just down the road at Hopmeadow Country Club. It was a cocktail-style reception with tons of hors d’oeuvres and many different stations for guests to choose from. The bride was very detail oriented and hand-painted white pumpkins with their monogram, plus brought in all of her own jar luminaries from her father’s glass company.

Overall Meghan wanted the wedding to have a very organic, rustic and earthy feel to it. She used the ivory cotton linens provided by the reception site and added burlap squares for texture, color and feel of rustic New England. Her bouquets were hand-tied bouquets of white dahlias, white button mums, seeded eucalyptus and white mini calla lilies along with white snowberries. Simple boutonnieres were created using white/creamy color dahlias. The which paired beautifully with the gentleman’s tan color suits. I would say this wedding had a little bit of a preppy feel to it with the bridesmaids gowns, the stunning stationery and the ties the bride chose for the gentlemen. She wanted a really fun atmosphere and a lasting impression on her guests.

From Inspiration to Reality: The Design

Okay, SMP-ers. Now for the good stuff. The absolutely adorable board that reader “Sticky” dreamed up…transformed into a steal-worthy wedding design. What I love the most about this particular look is that is isn’t too girly. It’s a bit more masculine than some of our others, with a clean, modern style that seems so fitting for a wedding design. It’s boy meets girl, done in a way that seems neither one nor the other. I love it. Oh and the focus on letterpress. Well, do I really need to say how awesome that is?

The amazing team is listed below, but here’s a quick look at the vendors involved…Gina Barber at A Thyme to Cook on food and design, Steve DePino on photography, Salt Water Farm Vineyard providing the space, Stonington Paperie on wedding invitations and paper, Jessica’s Country Flowers on flowers, The White Dress by the Shore on fashion and Buzz Media on film. Doesn’t get any better.

Inspiration + Design
We wanted to go with a more contemporary look/feel for this board….more city than country. The site was perfect….an old airport hangar that has been recently refurbished into a working vineyard and winery. With concrete floors, rustic wood planked walls, and stainless holding tanks, the urban chic feel really came through. The Inspiration board did not have many flowers so we kept it minimal as well. The balloons were a fun touch!

Flowers by Jessica’s Country Flowers
The bouquet was made out of white cattelya orchids. I chose those because they have a fluffy beauty to them, simplicity with all one variety of bloom and just that little touch of yellow in the throat of the orchids. The main centerpiece was completely “vendella” roses with hens and chicks (succulents) with copper wire twirled in the vase. White cymbidium orchids and galax leaves in the little surrounding vases. The wristlet was white cymbidium orchids as well. (they are pretty, an old-fashioned flower come back into popularity big time, and very durable)*

Wedding Invitations and Stationery by Stonington Paperie
We used a custom designed graphic identity inspired by the board and a jack kerovac quotation. This included the invitation/rsvp (2 color letterpress), envelopes with handlettered white gouache, a poem by jack kerovac (laserprint mounted on matt board), letterpress pear tags for pear ginger whiskey lollipops and a guest ‘book’…a custom canvas with acrylic paint [collaboration with steve depino]

A Wedding Giveaway

Yep, you read that right. We are bursting at the seams to announce a wedding giveaway that two insanely generous groups of New England vendors have put together for two (yep, you read that right also…TWO) very deserving couples who are planning a 2011 wedding. This is a BIG deal people and we hope that you’ll help us spread the word!

Jubilee Events + Robert & Kathleen Photographers = Smashing Wedding Success

I have been waiting ‘with bated breath’ to see the photos from Candice’s own wedding. So yesterday’s front page SMP feature was a huge delight for me! Not only was it all that I knew it would be … it was one of those Little Black Book name-dropping affairs … loaded with LBB celebreties with Candice in the leading role. Her supporting cast, though, are all superstars in their own right.

First up in this cast of super-stars are Robert & Kathleen Photographers. Fairly new members to our LBB family, we honestly couldn’t be happier to introduce them to you! My first peek at their work was back in May when Abby did a three-part feature of one of their weddings at the Oxford Airport in Connecticut. Really, really, really super. Here’s a link to their blog post of Dagney & Michael’s wedding. You will LOVE it.

And of course there was Beth Chapman of White Dress By The Shore. Beth’s brides come from far and wide to savor the experience of selecting their gowns in her boutique salon. Candice wore a custom creation from Modern Trousseau …

Jessica Robinson of Jessica’s Country Flowers ~ a frequent contributor to SMP & the LBB blog is an ultra-talented floral designer in Connecticut. All you have to do is type in “Jessica’s Country Flowers” on the front page search box of SMP and you’ll see a rainbow of lovely creations from Jessica! Perhaps the highest praise that a wedding vendor can get is to have a fellow wedding vendor ask you to help create the wedding of her dreams!

And then there’s Candice’s hair and make-up. If you’re a comment reader … it was a pretty close race yesterday on Abby’s post which you guys loved most ~ Candice’s hairstyle or her shoes! Dana Bartone’s brides are always gracing the pages of the wedding world. One look (or three or four) will make it obvious as to why.

And Lilah Paper … well, you’ll see in the following photos why Candice selected them for her invitations and paper pieces! It’s the details, such as these, that will really make your wedding personally yours!

Perhaps I should have started this post with an introduction of Candice! Candice Dowling Coppola is the creative force behind Jubilee Events. Her talents at planning and designing weddings is absolutely and positively a testimonial here ~ today ~ on her own wedding.

Holiday DIY: Chocolate and Caramel Covered Apples

So. Running a pretty successful wedding blog definitely has its perks. Aside from just being a really cool job (and getting to work in my PJ’s) we also happen to get really great little gifts right around the holidays. It’s actually kind of awesome, although many of them are making me quite fat. In a good way. So, one of those treats that we loved the most were these incredible Chocolate and Caramel Covered Apples that Jessica over at Jessica’s Country Flowers made us. Purely sinful…and we loved every bit of it.

So, here is a little DIY from Jessica. A perfect surprise for the ones you love this holiday season! And really cute for a wedding favor (obviously).

Ingredients
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 can sweet condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

24 granny smith apples (bought from Costco wholesale $7 dozen)
3 lbs. butter at Costco $7
pointed wooden round sticks at local craft store or candy making supply company online
ribbon from Costco ($8 for 50 yard roll at Costco)

Instructions

Melt the butter in a sauce pan, add the brown sugar and corn syrup. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon over medium heat. Add the sweet condensed milk, continuing to stir. Bring the mixture to 245 degrees F. Once off the stove, add the vanilla and stir. Cool down to about 210 degrees and dip your apples or pears.

Twist off the stems on your apples and put in the wooden sticks.

Place your dipped fruit on a sheet pan which is lined with parchment paper. Let dry and then dip in melted chocolate. While the chocolate is still wet, dip in toasted coconut, chopped nuts or add pieces of candy. Place back on the parchment paper to thoroughly dry. Melt some white chocolate and place into a zip lock bag, cut the very corner off and drizzle over the apples for detailing.

Package up in clear cellophane and tie up with a pretty ribbon. These make for incredible gifts from the heart. Store in a cool place or refrigerate. To enjoy, let them sit in room temperature for 1/2 hour. Place on a cutting board and slice.

Fall Flower Inspiration by Jessica’s Country Flowers

We’ve had a crazy couple of days at SMP! My husband and I headed down to NY to attend Martha Stewart Wedding’s 15 Anniversary Party which was amazing, but we managed to get ourselves stuck on a train coming home for over six hours. It was brutal and needless to say, we are thrilled to be back among all of the pretty things at SMP. You can read all about the party over on BACKSTAGE right now!

We’ve been wanting to showcase Jessica’s Country Flowers for a long time and when we saw these gorgeous Fall inspired designs that she crafted for a recent wedding…we knew that this was the perfect feature. And seeing that the gorgeousness of Fall is in full effect we thought it was only fitting!

Beautiful right? This is just the tip of the iceberg for Jessica. Her designs are always stunning, completely innovative and utterly timeless.

From Jessica…

We used low metal containers filled with antique green hydrangea, milva and black magic roses, rose hips and seeded eucalyptus. Madrid orange votive cups and clear votive cups scattered down the length of the table.The groom’s sister ironed and folded all of the multi color napkins (fall colors) and dressed the table along with her other brother. The bride’s bouquet was a hand tied bouquet of mango mini calla lilies, rose hips, milva & black magic roses, cinnamon color cymbidium orchids and seeded eucalyptus, wrapped with bronze/chocolate ribbon that had embroidery detailing and sequins. We added 3 vintage auburn rhinestone buttons down her stems for that vintage feel and extra detailing.

Hartford Society Room Wedding From Jessica’s Country Flowers

This wedding season has seen a profusion of purples and the loveliest shades of lavenders on the floral scene. Dramatic reception lighting, fabulous candy buffets, fun photo booths … well, today’s wedding, sent to us by the ever-so-talented Jessica at Jessica’s Country Flowers, has all that and more!

Kyoko & Han’s wedding took place in Hartford, Connecticut this past June. The beautiful bride prepares …

Kyoko and Han were married at Christ Church Cathedral with a reception following at the Hartford Society Room.

Jessica sent us some info about the amazing floral decor …

Her bouquets were hand-tied bouquets of lady slipper orchids, ivory and lavender roses, lavender cymbidium orchids and purple mokara orchids. For the reception, we created several different “tree” centerpieces. Curly willow, birch branches and manzanita branches. Jessica’s Country Flowers Contest Winners Announced

A little over two weeks ago we told you guys about the contest that Jessica’s Country Flowers was sponsoring {here}. The 2010 Deserving Couple’s Contest was need based with the winners receiving complimentary floral design and photography services for their 2010 New England wedding! Jessica had a tremendous response from Style Me Pretty readers and have selected not one … but three deserving couples!!

One of the couples already had their photographer and will only need help with the florals. Jamie Collins will be providing photography services for the second, and Little Black Book members, Justin and Mary Marantz have donated their services for the third! How terribly generous of all!

Congratulations to Anna & Matt, Lindsay and Alex, and Caitlin and Mike!!

Here’s what Jessica has told us so far … you have to be a New England couple planning to marry in 2010. This is a need-based giveaway for one couple undergoing economic hardships and/or special circumstances. Jessica will provide all floral services and Jamie will provide photography services for 5 hours.

She said, “I love doing different stem treatments… this one is wrapped with raw silk, french twists and vintage style rhinestone buttons.” We LOVE it, too!!
