Oh and guess who did the gorgeous flowers and table styling? One of my FAVORITE So-Cal florists! La Partie Events! Am totally smitten with Meg’s work and am still inspired by the DIY centerpieces that she did just for SMP a while back.

After the ceremony we all enjoyed a appetizers and drinks and after our first dance we all sat down for dinner. Each place card included a love quote that we picked out especially for them. Since each one was different everyone took turns reading theirs out load and at the end it served as the first toast of the evening. Everyone enjoyed a 4 course meal and continued the rest of the evening outdoors to enjoy the warm desert breeze.

There are some tried and true companies that carry unbelievably gorgeous, traditional flower girl dresses, but instead of going straight to the source, I thought it best to do a little digging to bring to you guys a collection of eclectic looks for the bride that wants a bit more of an avant-garde flair. The next set has a little bit of everything, some indie designers with European panache, a few eco-chic, and a sneak peak of Crewcuts newest additions for the little ladies.

Row One: The fabric in this frock by Neige is beyond gorgeous and is perfect paired with a cozy cardigan. And oh my goodness, the little gems adorning the Tartine et Chocolat dress is so ideal for adding a little glam without being over-the-top. How wonderful is the pleating in Neige’s peacock hued dress? This flower girl dress would be perfect if your maids are also wearing jeweled tones.

Row Two: Ok, this is my all time favorite dress here today. Dagmar Daley toole with linen in the most perfect way-I can’t think of a better way to add a touch of whimsy to your bridal party. Eco-chic designer Whitten Grey created one precious dress that could easily be worn at a casual day-time affair. Il Gufo’s perfectly tailored silhouette and intricate details conjures up images of little clouds. Each one is completely heavenly and absolutely wearable beyond the big day.

Row Three: J. Crew ‘s drop waist flower girl dress is too perfect for a rustic wedding, but if your look is more romantic than rustic, J. Crew has the solution in crushed silk. Ses Petits Mains is oh, so Parisian and just the thing for an understated but charming look. J’aime!

Row One: I was so excited to come across this cute little frock from Lilly Pulitzer -perfectly feminine and just adorable as a flower girl dress. I couldn’t resist the layers of frills in J. Crew’s little frock – so cute! For a more tailored look with a lot of charm, Chloe brings on the couture in subtle tones ideal for little flower girls.

Row Two: Mariella Ferrari’s two toned dress is a beautiful choice if you are craving a little tradition for your girl. For the more grown up flower girl, Un Deux Trois has the ideal shift that will for sure be worn again well after her debut. And the Florence Eiseman dress is all about the to-die-for fabric and subtle detailing around the bodice-perfectly timeless.

Row Three: This dress by Us Angels could also work for your Jr. Bridesmaids. The look is fresh and modern without being too trendy. I am so in love with the mod look of Us Angels gold brocade dress. What a great addition to a vintage styled bridal party. Last, but certainly not least is my personal fav of Priscilla Of Boston’s flower girl dresses. I am loving the drop waist that is showing up in several flower girl styles these days and Priscilla’s design is a perfect rendition.

After last weeks Bridesmaids Dress Round Up, I thought what better way to finish up the perfect bridesmaids look than with a dazzling collection of chic, fabulous jewelry. Turning to some of our favorite stores and designers, we’ve put together an assortment of eye-catching jewels with a variety of price tags that will suit lots of different budgets.

Row One: Vintage inspired and dripping with sparkles, these beauties from J. Crew are the essence of glamour. The Crystal Soiree earrings ($55) are very old Hollywood with loads of modern charm. Dainty and very lady like, the Heirloom Flora earrings ($45) are the perfect addition to a classic dress. And oh, how amazing are the Shimmering Teardrop earrings ($45)? They have just the right amount of glitz without being over the top.

from the groom, Mark …

Initially, we were not sure if we were going to have a small wedding with family, or if we were going to stay local, in the Chicago area. We both work part-time in the catering business, and had worked enough weddings to know that we wanted something different from the formal and highly-structured events that we were so familiar with. Also, we were somewhat limited in budget and time. We are both returning students, and are juggling our course load with a number of part-time jobs.

Ultimately we decided that this was our event, and that we would be happier if we ran off together and got married on our own terms. We both love our families dearly, but we wanted the focus of our attention to be on each other, and not necessarily on our guests. This decision took a lot of pressure off of us, and gave us the freedom to do something that would be really meaningful to us. So with the blessing of our families, we decided to run off on our own!

As far as the planning was concerned, we really made it up as we went along, following our hearts and taking advice that resonated with us from people we encountered throughout the planning process. We really had no plans that were set in stone, including location, setting, lodging, officiant and yes, even, photographer. We were very open and flexible throughout the process. We settled on Northern California, and ultimately Muir Beach, as a destination based on some past experiences, but really because of the geography. We are both lovers of the outdoors, and ultimately, we were looking for a setting that was “natural”.

We were not committed to a beach wedding, and have no real ties to the area, but that is ultimately where the process led us. Once we settled on the area, we decided to seek out people who could help us. Trisha had some contacts through the modeling agency she works for, where we found Raul Anthony, the make-up artist. We found our officiant, Mimi Calpestri, by speaking with the event manager of the Pelican Inn, where we had arranged to stay. And Jessamyn, came highly recommended from another friend and photographer in the area. In discussing our ideas with the people involved, we were better able to make informed decisions. Collectively, these individuals helped shape our plans, and were able to steer us away from ideas that were unrealistic or short-sighted (like having the ceremony in Muir Woods). Talking to people who are involved with a lot of weddings in the area was very helpful.

Our clothes were from J Crew. Trisha wanted a dress, that was elegant, but not excessively formal, or overdone, and she liked having the freedom to move around in it. I chose a 3-piece Irish linen suit, perfect for the outdoors, that had a traditional, old-timey feel to it. The pink ribbon seen in T’s dress came recommended by her close friend (and hairdresser in Chicago), Sally Noblett. Flowers were from Mill Valley florist, graciously provided by my mother (who really wanted to be there!). And Trisha’s hand-crafted purse was a gift from her Aunt Emily, who does exquisite needlepoint work (Emily Elizabeth Heirlooms).

Our wedding day started off with a traditional breakfast at Pelican Inn, which provided much needed fuel for a seven mile hike into Muir Woods and back. Visiting the grandeur of the redwoods seemed like a nice preamble to our big occasion, and provided a nice respite from the sunny skies unseasonably warm temperatures. After some lunch and a nap, we woke to a heavy fog, which really added a surreal and ethereal presence to our ceremony, and made for some great photographs.

In addition to our stay at Pelican Inn during the week, we spent two nights in San Francisco, at the Huntington Hotel & Spa in Nob Hill (We have to go back to San Francisco!). And we also spent two nights at Hope Cottage at Green Gulch Farm (SF Zen Center) overlooking the very spot where we got married! There were a lot of unknowns getting married this way, but it really did feel like an adventure, and we both feel that it exceeded our expectations. Everyone we worked with was wonderful, and we always have fond memories of our wedding, and look forward to returning to the area again in the future to revisit what was really a lovely occasion.

From Preeti, founder of Spotlight Style and Rita and Mike’s wedding consultant and designer …

Rita and Mike wanted to have a wedding outdoors with a modern feel. Osborne Castle was a beautiful venue with over 300 acres of greens so the couple was able to have a private wedding on a mountain top overlooking Hudson Valley.

The bride wanted a mandap to represent the same feel…so it was made out of birch tree pillars with floral pomanders and chocolate brown fabric.

The guest card table was made with a tray of grass and planter sticks for namecards…to keep with the beautiful outdoors feel.

The wedding was held this past August at The Mountain Top Inn & Resort, Chittenden, Vermont. All of the girls’ attire, including the bride’s, was by J. Crew. From the beautiful bride…

We wanted our wedding day to be perfectly “Vermont”. We really succeeded! It was comfortable and had a very natural feel. I wanted to use oranges and greens because I  felt like they were such earthy colors and really cried out “Vermont” to me. We wanted our wedding to express how much we love the outdoors and the mountains.

When Mike took me to Santa Fe to meet his mom for the first time, it was love at first sight. I thought, “Here is where I will marry this incredible man.”

Between us, there has always been this feeling of ease and comfort. And while we both love the life we live in Chicago, we wanted our wedding to reflect the same sense of comfort we found in Santa Fe that we found in each other. We are together in part because we have the same priorities; top on the list being family and friends. So, we enlisted our loved ones and their many talents to help us create a day that reflected a “personal touch” and was as lush in love as the garden in which we wed.

Our ceremony took place at the Selby Fleetwood Gallery on Canyon Road. In the initial planning stages, Mike’s mom, Selby, sent us some images of paintings from the gallery and we got hooked on one from an artist we had long admired, Lor Roybal. This image, Adonis and Miranda, became the cornerstone of our wedding.

I borrowed the spiced wine color from the painting when I looked for bridesmaid’s dresses (JCrew) and for the pop of color from my shoes (Kate Spade).

The girls’ flowers, from Artichokes and Pomegranates, were also filled with matching hues.

We used the Adonis and Miranda image on our wedding program fans- a labor of love that took me something like two weeks and a bruised hand (from all that corner punching)! They were worth it, though ~ guests used them as they strolled up Canyon Road to the reception.

My gown was by Marisa. I think it was an older style. It was a sample I got really, really inexpensively and had beautifully fixed up by this wonderful place, Davis Imperial, here in Chicago – they are a wonderful cleaner/tailor/preservation company!

We wanted to honor tradition yet find touches that came uniquely from us, our family and our friends. So we asked Mike’s bandmate and his wife to be our ceremony musicians. They played an acoustic version of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers” as I walked down the aisle. My cousin, who was our ring bearess, carried Mike’s titanium ring and my ruby band (that was his grandmother’s guard ring) in a beautiful ceramic dish created by Paloma’s Nest inscribed with words from “Wildflowers.”

As our numbers grew (115 of our closest came from Kansas to Philly to Spain, including some of my former students) we decided we needed a bigger reception venue and El Farol came to the rescue. El Farol is the oldest restaurant in Santa Fe and legend has it that there are bullet holes in the walls! When an afternoon downpour prevented the party from being outside, we quickly arranged everyone indoors in cozy rooms where an intimate affair took shape. The tables were filled with stunning arrangements done for us as a gift from a close friend of Selby’s. On the morning of the wedding, we all ventured to the farmer’s market to select peonies and wildflowers which were added to the fresh mint, sage and sweet peas from Selby’s home garden.

Our guests filled their plates with flash fried avocados & salsa and seafood paella before dancing to the funky sounds of the Felonious Groove Foundation. One of Mike’s wedding musts (he’s a drummer disguised as a lawyer) was to find a band that would get everyone up and moving and it worked! Our Mayan chile chocolate cakes (3 small round cakes, ours sitting on a vintage cake stand I found a week before the wedding on Ebay!) were from The Chocolate Maven and were like heaven. Instead of a traditional cake topper, we had peg people made to look like us from Naked Peggies on Etsy!

That night, we did just what we wanted: we laughed and loved, hugged and squeezed, danced and ate in the mountains with our loved ones.

You know what else? I totally forgot to add that we used squares of canvas (following the art gallery theme) for our guest book, which guests filled out with a message and hung on clothespins that I modge podged with paper in our colors.

As a wonderful surprise, Mike’s family presented us with Adonis & Miranda, who now live with us in Chicago!

To capture the day it was without question that we chose Twin Lens. Mike and I were immediately drawn to Kitty and Craig’s style and their obvious passion for what they do. They went above and beyond , leaving us with the most incredible visual story of our day.

Believe it or not, Katie is just wearing a little tinted moisturizer, and concealer to make her skin flawless in pictures. It was important to me, and to Katie, that her beautiful freckles show through. Why cover up that unique feature of hers! The days of piling on heavy foundation are over essentially– with new innovations in makeup, foundation specifically, and an effective skincare routine, brides can have the creamy, flawless skin they want.

And just a bit about Shannon’s makeup from Renee …

Another option gaining popularity, is the airbrush machine. I used an airbrush gun on Shannon, and you can still see her freckles shining through. I think modern bridal makeup is about making the woman feel gorgeous, while still looking like herself. There’s nothing worse than having hired a fabulous photographer, and end up not liking your pictures because you had on too much–or not enough–makeup!

From the gorgeous bride, Audra…

I’ve been obsessed with SMP since the moment of my engagement. Admittedly, I haven’t known what to do with myself since the wedding and all my free time which was once spent on wedding blogs. As a graphic designer I saw my wedding as an opportunity to showcase my style and personality, to brand us as a couple, in a sense. I found the best way to let my personality shine was in the tiny details. Everything from the programs to the cake topper I thought about in great length. Also, being on a budget, most of these projects required a DIY execution, which also helped to give my wedding a unique look and feel. Overall, Id say the style outcome was contemporary with an eclectic sprinkling.

As for the fashion…I purchased from J Crew and had a seamstress add the flowers, an overlay, and a train… I had a vision, and she really made it come true. The bridesmaids and groomsmen also wore J Crew.

Not too long ago, Amanda at Orchard Cove Photography sent us two of her June weddings and Abby has already featured one of them {here}. So today, we wanted to show you Liz and Dan’s wedding. Not in Connecticut … but in Groton, Massachusetts …

Liz and Dan were married at the The Barn At Gibbit Hill ~ in June ~ and from the looks on the faces of their family and friends, they had a blast!

The beautiful flowers were designed by Tangerine Creations.

And the dresses? Who do you think? All of them by Vera, of course!

From the lovely bride…

We chose colors that complimented the colors of the water. Our florist, Elisabeth from Studio Blush, created a beautiful, classic look using mainly white flowers with hints of purple (my favorite color). The arrangements on the long rectangular tables were mainly single bloom arrangements in square vases and all the bridesmaids carried white bouquets also made of single blooms. My bouquet was all different types of purple flowers and wrapped in the lace from my Lela Rose gown-it was gorgeous! There were candles everywhere to keep the lighting very natural. My Mom filled the large fireplace with hurricane lanterns with sea shells and other freestanding candles which was very impressive.

We worked with Judy Paulen designs at Bloomingdales for all of our invitations and save the dates and then personally designed the menu and programs with help from family friends, Rex and Wendy Walden. We printed them locally and kept the theme of using the Sachem’s Head Yacht Club etching on the menu (as we did on the Save the Date). I designed the escort card display so it would cover up an ugly corkboard in the entryway to the ballroom using linen fabric and ribbons in different purple patterns. My friend, Amy, helped with all the calligraphy on the invitations, escort and seating cards. We created seating card holders out of wine corks.

From the gorgeous bride…

Matt and I always wanted to have our wedding at a place that was really special to us and that represented who we are as a couple. I grew up in a small Connecticut shoreline town called Guilford that is absolutely beautiful in the springtime and so we decided to hold our wedding ceremony there at the First Congregational Church. We held the reception at the Sachem’s Head Yacht Club where I spent all my summers growing up. In recent years, Matt has also spent many summers at the Sachem’s Head Yacht Club and we have many memories there together. It definitely took a lot of effort and teamwork, but we pulled off the wedding of my dreams.

The bridemaids all wore dresses from Butter by Nadia in tones that matched the ocean-purple, navy and slate–and I gave them lucite earrings and bracelets in all different colors, shapes and sizes to fit their personalities. The dresses were amazing and you could tie them in all different styles which my girlfriends loved. From Ken Luallen…Our groom’s personality shone through the day just as brightly – he wore a deep navy Ralph Lauren suit, its deceptively conservative style hiding mischievous purple and fuchsia argyle socks.  His groomsmen’s purple J.Crew socks stood out more easily, lounging as they were in fresh pairs of cool grey Converse chucks.  Even their audacious purple ties were custom made, silk screened by Cyberoptix Tie Lab. Youn blended modern style with feminine elegance perfectly, starting the day with a gorgeous Bellissima Couture gown.

To make a grand reception entrance she changed into a classy cream J. Crew dress bearing a billowing floral pin designed by another indie favorite, Easter Yu of Muscari.  The bridesmaids delicately-layered floral hairpieces were created by Oregon’s Myra Callan of Twigs and Honey, as were the groomsmen’s boutonnières.
