A Real Wedding: Heather and Kevin

Since the number one request that we have here on SMP is for Real Weddings, I thought that we could really treat ourselves to a solid week of the prettiest, most stylish weddings that I could find. Yesterday’s colorful affair was a huge hit and I know that today’s vintage chic wedding will be just as loved…

I am going to let the bride, Heather, give you a bit of detail…

From the time we were engaged, Kevin and I envisioned a casual, yet stylish, FUN backyard wedding.  Being extremely family oriented, we wanted a day not only to celebrate our love, but also our relationships with those closest to us. The ceremony was held in a quaint, little old church just outside of Kevin’s hometown, and the reception followed at his family residence, in Pleasanton, California.   My cocktail length dress, embellished with raw-edged fabric and tulle flower appliqués (BCBG Maxazria), together with yellow & white polka dot peep toes (Delicious) and old-fashioned birdcage veil (www.myweddingveil.com) completed the stylish vintage feel I was going for. Our wedding party, made up of only our siblings, wore J.Crew, Banana Republic, and Vans.

Wedding Dresses by J Crew

I spent some time last night pouring through the Spring and Fall 2008 bridal runways on Brides.com…and I am officially blown away by that J Crew! I am just so impressed by the sweet sophistication of their wedding dresses…

And we all know, the bridesmaids dresses are just too cute for words… especially, the new plaid one!

I love that a classic, old brand is really trying to redefine themselves with their new bridal line. I know that last year, they literally sold out of stock on some of their gowns. Hopefully, this year, they will be a little more prepared…I have a feeling they are going to sell like hotcakes.

Pretty Spring & Summer Colors

I get so many requests for help in choosing color palettes…it seems like so many soon-to-be’s have a hard time bringing colors together that work and that make sense aesthetically. For example, you may love orange and chocolate brown, but when brought together, you realize that they have a close resemblance to candy corn at Halloween.

So today, I wanted to start a series of posts that I am going to do on choosing color palettes for your wedding. I absolutely love the two that I have chosen for today and think that they are perfect for a Spring or Summer wedding .

Splurge Vs. Save: Dresses

I was perusing the Grace Ormonde Wedding Style site today and completely fell in love with some of the gowns that they feature for 2007. The magazine’s focus is style and high end design and it shows… the gowns on the 2007 runways that are highlighted really are drool worthy. As is everything else on this site. The flowers are GORGEOUS, the event designers are over-the-top beautiful…I could go on and on and on. Okay, focus.

Today’s post is a splurge vs. save. I tried to find gowns that were comparable either in cut or style, or at the very least, gave that ahhhh how pretty feeling for both the splurge and the steal. Here we go! The splurge gowns are all $1500 and above (most of them far more). The save dresses are $1500 and below (most of them far less).

3 sets of wedding stationery

For future reference, Inspiration Boards are my way of having a brainstorming session. It is basically just a general “look” that I pull together from a variety of sources, whether it be fine china, textiles, old paintings, anything really…just like an interior designer or a fashion designer would create for a potential client, my inspiration boards help me to find a general direction and style that I want to go in with my designs.

Okay, here we go.

My very best childhood friend, Katie, is getting married in November. Another best friend from college, Anne, is getting married in August, and another, Deana, is getting married in September. Guess what…there’s more. Sam is getting married in June and Laurie, one of my nearest and dearest, recently got engaged though still hasn’t set a date. Can you believe that!? A normal person might be totally overwhelmed with all of the plane tickets, hotel rooms, bridesmaid dresses (I am in 2 of the weddings), etc. but not me! I am obsessed with the whole wedding ordeal. I love everything about it, the showers, the parties, the dresses, the i-do’s the, everything.
