Today’s wedding that Tanja shot is just as beautiful, just as vivid. The style is absolutely chic, built around a color palette of gray, chartreuse and a sea of white. Love, love, love.

The wedding was on a gorgeous day at the Solage in Calistoga, CA.  The coordinator was Crystal Lequang from Amazae special events , the florist was Asiel Design.  The venue was perfect for a relaxed, beautiful wedding, with the bride and groom’s design choices being crisp and classic.

Solage is a great space with a laid back atmosphere.   The spa, pool areas and bicycles make for a care free, relaxed and fun environment.  I love the platinum/gray color mixed with the bright green, it really mixed the elegant, classy feeling with the laid back, casual feel, perfect for the venue!

Top/left: “Green was the chosen palette for this East-meets-West wedding. The bride’s family is originally from Japan, and the groom traces his heritage to Ireland. Spider mums and yoko ono mums were paired with stripy flax leaves, set in a silver lacquered box to function as a ring pillow.”

Top/right: “Mums and stephanotis ~ Adorned with white and green blossoms, a coastal white chapel with view to the Pacific was the ceremony location for this wedding.”

Above: Row 2/left ~ Inspired by the outdoor garden ceremony in early autumn, this ring pillow highlights a mélange of textural materials and celebrates the gradual change in colors of foliage.

Above: Row 2/right ~ Lady slipper orchid.  The bride comes from a family of orchid lovers; her affinity had burgeoned at an early age because her father is an orchid hobbyist and grower. The use of a singular blossom in the ring pillow epitomizes the simple grace embodied in an orchid.

Below/left ~ Kiwi vine. This ring pillow was inspired by the natural setting of the ceremony location, a sunken amphitheater facing a majestic redwood grove. Foliage and twig are emphasized in the design.

Below/right ~ This ring pillow was designed for a 20’s inspired wedding that took place at a beloved historic building designed by Julia Morgan, best known for her design of the Hearst Castle. Peacock feathers were one of the key design elements and used throughout the wedding.

Botanical ring pillows are designed for the ring bearer to carry down the aisle with the rings attached, and serve as a unique detail element of the wedding ceremony. The idea of making a ring pillow out of flowers is not new ~ the green yoko ono mum ring pillow and the moss ring pillow are both well-published designs. We have embraced the concept by customizing each botanical ring pillow we make. The design of the ring pillow follows a process of blending the botanical elements left over from the wedding floral designs instead of ordering extra materials for its creation. The rest is a truly organic design process, inspired by the mood and feel of the location and the textures and palette of the flowers. I am a “less is more” girl, and most of our brides share the same sentiment, so the designs are clean and minimal yet dramatic.

Our design team loves making these because the creative process is spontaneous and impressionistic. An added bonus is that we are giving new life to botanical materials that would otherwise head to the green recycle bin. All of our ring pillows are the result of impromptu composition. We are fortunate that our brides have a true sense of adventure, and wanted us to have fun with the design and surprise them.

We saved a lot of money on church decorations by placing my bouquet and my two maid of honor’s bouquets on the alter. We also placed preserved topiary balls at the end of the pews. After the ceremony, we transported the them to Eolio Mansion and placed them on the staircase rails. They were the best purchase because they last forever and they look great in our home and our parents’ homes.

From Anne, the gorgeous bride…

I designed and produced everything. This was a long process since designing for yourself allows you way too much freedom which enables you to constantly change your mind. The following are the stationary details of the wedding:

Church Programs: I designed and printed on my offset printer and had John’s grandmother sew the inside pages since I didn’t have a sewing machine.

Escort Cards: I used a love letter instead of a number. I also loved the illustration of the humming birds and how that coexisted with the garden theme. Thus, I decided to use them as love birds humming around love letters:) I used the hydrangea illustration from my invite as the background of each escort card and printed them off my offset printer. I also used price tags from staples and stamped the table letter on it and then attached it to the card with rafia.

Escort Board: This was created by my crafty husband. (I wouldn’t have been able to do everything without his help). We went to Michael’s art store and picked up a Frame and foam core. He went to town with the silver spray paint and painted the frame and then roughed it up a bit to create a distressed older look. Then he attached green canvas fabric that we had to the foam core with spray mount. Lastly, he mounted it to the back of the frame.

Polaroid for Guests: This was awesome. Guests came in and picked up their escort card and then took a candid shot of themselves with the help of another guest and then slipped it in an envelope and signed it.

Table Numbers: These were wrapped around two chairs at each table. I printed the table letter off of my printer and then used double sided tape to attach it to the green paper. Then I placed a grommet through the top and the bottom of the circle and finally I placed the ribbon through it.

Ok…. where do I begin.  As of September 27, 2008, my name is Anne McAndrew Callahan and my husband’s name is John Callahan. Very Irish names but I am more Sweden and Scottish and John is part Irish so we didn’t do the kilt thing:) Our ceremony was held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex, Connecticut followed by our reception at the Eolia Mansion in Waterford, Connecticut. Unfortunately it was a very foggy, wet day but we made the most of it, except for my hair LOL!

Here are a couple of really fun tidbits from the bride…the bridesmaids were all told to simply, wear a green dress! Whatever they had or found would be perfect. So cute.  And the fabulous paper products? The invitations were printed on handmade plantable seed paper purchased from Green Field Paper. The entire invitation could be planted to grow wildflowers. Um, SO COOL.

Apples were placed next to each escort card as weights – and décor.  The apple theme continued with the dining table arrangements and linen colors in the lounge.  Lounge pieces were adorned with festive pillows in granny smith and orange tones. Soft white leaf projections added pizzazz to the otherwise bland banquet room.

At evening’s end, guests lingered for late night port, cigars, and cheese.  Ambient live jazz set the mood for friends and family to enjoy the remaining moments of a perfect day.  Guests departed at midnight with fond memories of a romantic wine country weekend.

Hosted at the property’s apple orchard, a custom birch pole chuppah was created especially for the couple.  Chocolate and apple green ribbons adorned the chairs and chuppah and danced in the wind during the ceremony.

A friend of the groom brought homemade challah all of the way from Texas.  After the blessing of the challah and the wine, the feast and festivities began.  Avid dancers, the bride was mindful of her friend’s feet; she purchased flip-flops for each female guest.

A bit from the bride, Alana…

My husband Alex and I were married on July 19th 2008 in Summerland, British Columbia, Canada. We currently live in Montreal, Canada but we both grew up in the Okanagan and couldn’t imagine our wedding taking place anywhere else. Our ceremony was held on my parents’ lawn, which overlooks beautiful Okanagan Lake. We wanted to create an elegant, clean & simple wedding.

We were on a budget so we kept our guest list relatively small (75 people) and tried to do as many DIY projects as possible. We also wanted our wedding to be unique and very representative of us and didn’t want to have to sacrifice that because of the budget.
