From Robert and Kathleen of Robert & Kathleen Photographers… A glamorous New York City wedding set in one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods: Gramercy Park. Neighborhood residents Becky and Dave selected the Gramercy Park Hotel for their wedding ceremony and reception not only because it was local but because it also happens to be a stunning location in its own right. Dave even managed to secure access to Gramercy Park itself (one of the few private parks in the city that can only be accessed with a key) for their first look and formal photos.

From Robert & Kathleen Photographers… New Yorkers Renee & Matt selected the classic Gramercy Park Hotel for their wedding after being drawn to it’s unique decor and vast collection of art.  The ceremony & reception were held in the roof terrace – an area of the hotel filled with particularly interesting touches since it was originally the home of the hotel’s architect.  The cocktail hour was held in the Rose Bar – a popular weekend spot that was reserved solely for Renee & Matt’s guests that evening.

Matt lived in Africa as a boy, attended high school in London and somehow ended up selecting St. Louis, Missouri when it came time to pick a college. From all his travels around the world, it would be in Missouri that Matt would find a girl from Connecticut. Renee caught his eye during the three years they shared the campus at Washington University, yet they never really got to know one another. Even though Renee does say that she definitely noticed Matt back then as well, they wouldn’t connect until years later.

Both committed to helping others, it was their shared interest in helping the people of Rwanda that finally brought them together. After law school, Matt started a nonprofit called Indego Africa, an organization that partners women artisans in Rwanda with high-end retailers and returning all of the profits back to Rwanda in order to help bring an end to poverty in the region. (It’s an incredibly worthwhile cause and the products are amazing, you can check out the online store here). Renee, pursuing a career in clinical psychology, had a research trip planned to Rwanda when a mutual friend suggested she get in touch with Matt since he knew quite a bit about the region. She was more than happy to go along with the suggestion. They chatted on the phone for a bit and eventually an official date was made. It was at a bar in D.C., they not only noticed one another once again but finally got to talk in person. The spark between them was clear right away.

For a couple always seeking to make the world a better place, they did that night. Just by finding one another.

There is something about a gorgeous New York City wedding that makes everyone’s heart do a little flip. Perhaps it’s the timeless feel of the city, the excitement that floats through the New York air, or the facts that it is the fashion capital and simply romantic. Pola and Oliver, both originally from Germany, fell for New York’s charm many years ago.

Their ceremony took place at the architecturally grand St. Paul’s chapel of Columbia University and featured a gospel choir that sang from the chapel’s balcony. After an exit with cheering family and friends the couple chose a NYC Taxi Cab to drive them from their ceremony to the Gramercy Park Hotel, which can only be described as True Blood meets European flair. The exclusive venue played host to their rooftop terrace reception and cocktail hour 16 floors above the city boosting amazing views. The cocktail hour was chic romantic with the amazing Bon Musique singing in French under hundreds of light bulbs. Pola and Oliver shared an intimate dinner with their guests and enjoyed speeches in English and German before dancing the night away under the stars and enjoying cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop. The entire affair was elegant and so perfectly New York.

We were engaged in March 2010 and immediately decided to have a destination wedding in our favorite place, Bali. Unfortunately, we realized that many family and friends would not be able to make it. We decided to plan a small ceremony in New York (where we live).

We ended up having an amazing wedding with just a little over 60 family and friends at the Rooftop Garden of the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York. It was the complete opposite of our ‘island Bali’ wedding but amazingly special. Because we were not financially planning a second wedding we opted to just do (almost everything) ourselves and simplify with just a ceremony, cocktail hour (with a signature summer cocktail) and a luncheon.

Our family and friends participated — making the our wedding special and unique. My uncle Rev. Michael Livingston officiated and our parents gave a blessing. We “JUMPED THE BROOM” an African American and celtic tradition. It signifies ‘sweeping away of the old’ and starting a new life together as you jump. Everyone participated, saying 1, 2, 3! Instead of a traditional wedding party we had our 3 nieces and 1 nephew in the wedding. Gil being a 3rd grade teacher and our love for family and children truly felt special for us.

My wedding planner, friends and family were amazing in helping us DIY…My best friend made the programs, we had an arts and crafts party with the kids and they helped us do the seed favors. My wedding planner and I did all the flowers. I collected some vintage rhinestone brooches for the corsages for our Moms, Aunts and my bouquet. I also ordered most of the hand made details on etsy.com. This includes our cake topper, the beautiful black love birds, sugar anemone flowers, flower girl basket, ring bearer pillow and even the broom! I heart etsy.com! My husband made the wishing tree as well as the small vases…he is a ceramics sculptor. This was a HUGE it — as guests took home the bud vases as a very special memento from our wedding.

Last, but certainly not least — we were ecstatic to have our french bull dog, Zoe be a part of the wedding. She is such a big part of our family it would not have been the same without her. Seriously, how cute is she?

Thanks for allowing me to share our simple, urban, chic wedding. Proof that it IS possible to have an inexpensive wedding in New York…with a little extra work and a lot of love, anything is possible!

This Winter wedding took plate on the rooftop of a historic NYC hotel, the Gramercy Park Hotel ().  Both ceremony & reception took place on the roof a elegant garden-style location with tons of windows and views of lower Manhattan.  The bride decided to incorporate cheery shades of yellow, green and white in the floral arrangements, the perfect compliment to the simple blue strapless bridesmaids dresses. The Gramercy Park Hotel has an eclectic vibe with unusual artwork and architecture, featured in the cocktail hour room in particular – a room where the ceiling is made up entirely of lightbulbs.

Anyway, I was going to hand the blog over to some of my guest bloggers for the week so that I could get a little r & r but what can I say, I am addicted. The minute that these babies landed in my inbox, I threw my vacation out the window so that I could get them up. They are just that good.

Belathee is this incredible photography team whose work I am forever in awe of. It’s so editorial, so unbelievably chic, it’s almost hard to tell that you’re looking at a real wedding. The girls are a rare talent to say the least. Here are a few notes from the Belathee about this affair…

Annabel photographed this couple from London who planned a mini wedding with quite a fashion statement here in NYC. They got dressed at the Gramercy Park Hotel and held a little ceremony in Gramercy Park.

Then they were off to South Street Seaport for some mesmerising images around the city. The designer behind the gown is Angelica Colarusso and both the bride, Nicky, and the gown got quite a bit of attention on the streets! Nicky, the bride, embraced the fact that it was getting dirty and thought it made it even more special to have leaves stuck in the tulle

This couple was sent to us via Fiona Leahy , a fantastic wedding planner based in London and  it was truly a treat to capturing such stylish clients and the big apple always proves as an amazing backdrop for any occasion.
